First I’d like to say thank you for the credit @gorillageek27 and shoutout to @ewwcringe for sourcing my artwork. I’m glad you like it, gorilla, but I’d appreciate it if you would not repost my artwork without permission. Generally, it’s helpful to reblog an artist’s work directly. i hate that every time i look for color studies and tips to improve my art and make it more dynamic and interesting all that comes up are rudimentary explanations of the color wheel that explain it to me like im in 1st grade and just now discovering my primary colors

#not my art #ohohohohohoho #you have activated my trap card #tho links were already provided and i have yet to see them #and if they tell me something i dont know i will be very excited #but i will pointlessly info dump in the tags regardless #the biggest thing about colors is understanding the different scales of color (so to speak)#First (most important) is value—how light or dark something is #Second is Hue: what color on the visible spectrum (ROYGBIV)#Third is Saturation: How vivid is the color?#Understanding these three scales is CRUCIAL to understanding how to create/balance contrast in your work #The other factor of color theory OP brought up was color relationships—such as complimentary (R/G)(B/O)(Y/P)#but taking the R/G example and using the scales to help understand their relationship better #Red and Green are complementary #(thats the correct spelling)#but they also scream XMAS in their most audacious form #So lets adjust the values until we get a dark green and a light red for contrast #we can also tint that R hue into pink (tinting is desaturating a color with white)#(in traditional painting adjusting the value is often intrinsically linked with adjusting saturation because adding white or black—#—to a color will automatically desaturate it but I DIGRESS)#and lets also adjust the hue of that green to its analogous relative: Blue #creating a nice deep teal #and bam our final product is a deep teal with light pink accents #providing contrast across all scales while not provoking any jingling of bells #there are also the different types of color media such as subtractive/additive and their applications but #lets stick with the basics and not go into optics #unless requested :)#in the mean time i have some projects to catch up on

For me, I can recognize your art by Danny's hair (the unique flowiness in ghost mode, but also the well drawn bangs in human mode which most people give up on), combined with an overall slightly realistic feel to a picture. (...But that kind of only works for pictures of Danny. ^_^" I'm not familiar enough with your art yet to pick up on more.)

yo thanks so much for the feedback :D And yah, I can often recognize an artist by their take on Danny's hair too; it's pretty varied. I leaned into the anti-gravity and dry ice theme for his ghost mode myself. And I don't blame anyone giving up on those mickey mouse logic bangs lmao
