Honestly, this quote and this scene in Creation Myths truly do a great job of showcasing the mindset the urskeks had about Thra. This was the SECOND thing they did after they arrived. They took the Crystal, hidden inside a mountain, and lifted it up and made a castle of crystal around it. Please note they did not need the Crystal nearby to arrive on Thra. What I think they thought, was that since THEIR world had an exposed Crystal, then obviously this planet needed it to be like that as well! Yet, by doing that they accidentally doomed Thra to suffer. Not just by skeksis, but also by gelfling later. Inside the mountain, the Crystal was safe. When it was exposed like that? It was doomed for abuse from all sides.
