Updating a couple of my supplies, mostly because I have a bunch of glass sheets hanging around so will make a palette - put them to good use!

Yup, I hate the concept that to be a good artist you have to be mentally ill or “mad”. Obviously there are some people who create amazing art and their mental illness influences this, but there’s also lots of mentally ill people who don’t make any art - whether they don’t want to, or don’t have the capacity to. I actually think the idea is a bit patronising to mentally ill people.

Lady Gaga seems to have been “inspired” by artists before, but also Orlan doesn’t bloody own the body-modification community and does frikken blackface in her work so I really can’t see what there would be to steal. I remember being really interested in Orlan when I was at uni but she seems like a bit of an arrogant prat to be honest.

If you’ve followed my work for a while you’ll know that back in 2010 I started doing some biomechanical artworks, and re-visited this in 2012 where I specifically researched prosthetic limbs. This of course led me to Viktoria Modesta and the Alternative Limb Project. I absolutely love this, as it was a concept I was thinking of doing myself (before I realised I know nothing about sculpture, carving, prosthesis, or anything else related haha).  I would still love to paint prosthetics one day, I may look into that again in future.

Satisfying to watch, and doesn’t add too much. I’m all for removing and replacing varnish since it was intended to protect and be removed when yellowed. I’m not completely sure on adding more paint, though it definitely does make it look more how it would have when it was new. Where is the line - when do we lose the original artist’s hand? I’m really not sure, what are your thoughts?
