Indigenous-led resistance to 21 fossil fuel projects in the U.S. and Canada over the past decade has stopped or delayed an amount of greenhouse gas pollution equivalent to at least one-quarter of annual U.S. and Canadian emissions.
This is despite an onslaught of attacks against Indigenous activists over the past few years. Over the last few years, victories won against projects through direct actions have led to more than 35 states enacting anti-protest laws, jail time for protestors, thousands of dollars of fines, and even the killing of prominent activists.
Indigenous rights and responsibilities “are far more than rhetorical devices — they are tangible structures impacting the viability of fossil fuel expansion.” Through physically disrupting construction and legally challenging projects, Indigenous resistance has directly stopped projects expected to produce 780 million metric tons of greenhouse gases every year and is actively fighting projects that would dump more than 800 million metric tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year.
The analysis, which used publicly released data and calculations from nine different environmental and oil regulation groups, found that roughly 1.587 billion metric tons of annual greenhouse gas emissions have been halted. That’s the equivalent pollution of approximately 400 new coal-fired power plants — more than are still operating in the United States and Canada — or roughly 345 million passenger vehicles — more than all vehicles on the road in these countries.
“From an Indigenous perspective, when we are confronting the climate crisis we are inherently confronting the systems of colonization and white supremacy as well,” Goldtooth said. “In order to do that, you have to reevaluate how you relate to the world around you and define what your obligations are to the world around you. It’s more than just stopping fracking development and pipelines and it’s more than just developing clean energy, it’s about actually fundamentally changing how we see the world itself.”

Man. I'm so tired of people acting like acknowledging the existence of severely disabled people is somehow the Oppression Olympics. Yes, there is a difference in life experience between someone who uses a cane and someone who uses a bulky powerchair and can't dress or bathe themself. You'd think that would be common sense, but apparently it's a threat to some people. What is it threatening? I don't even know anymore.

A manatee rescue that I follow responded to a call about a female manatee with two calves because one of her babies had been injured by a boat strike. The entire family was temporarily relocated from the wild into a wildlife rehab facility for the injured male calf to undergo treatment. While there, vets noted the female calf was significantly larger than the little injured male. They did genetic testing and determined that big sister calf actually wasn’t related to the other two manatees at all! She was in fact an orphan calf that the adult manatee had found and taken in to care for right alongside her own little one.
Wild to think this manatee calf was literally adopted and nobody would have ever known if it weren’t for random coincidence and human curiosity. Every animal that you cross paths with in life has a fascinating personal story that you’ll only ever catch a glimpse of (if you’re lucky).

When I say I'm anti psychiatry, I'm not trying to take away your right to choose to rely on the psychiatric label, the psych medications or the therapy that genuinely helps you. I don't think you're wrong about it helping you either. I'm not anti you relying on tools based in psychiatry if they help. What I am against is capitalism forcing these treatments on people as universal solutions to completely individual problems while rejecting valid criticisms of coerced and forced treatment, bad science, serious medication side effects and therapy approaches that don't actually help everyone. I am attacking a system ripe with abuse and ableist, bigoted, capitalist ideology, but I am not saying that you shouldn't be allowed to use any of the tools based in it for yourself in a context where it's actually a free choice not being forced onto you as a universal solution by an authority

Wild concept that shouldn’t be wild and the coldest take ever: disabled adults are *adults* and not just children trapped in adult bodies
Disabled adults have sex
Disabled adults do drugs
Disabled adults curse
Disabled adults get piercings and tattoos
Disabled adults can make adult decisions and act and behave like adults because we are adults
It’s just so weird for people to constantly infantilize me all because of my mobility aids when I’m not a child!!!

if you're feeling powerless right now—and god knows I am—here's a reminder you can donate to the National Network of Abortion Funds, the Trans Law Center, Gaza Soup Kitchen, the Palestine Children's Relief Fund, and hundreds of other charities that will work to mitigate the damage that has been and will continue to be inflicted
life continues. we still have the capacity to do good, important work. that matters

archon dorian pavus is so funny if the inquisitor is his partner, the most politically disastrous power couple of all time, the head of the imperium and the herald of andraste- can you imagine the scandal-
