so you dated the wrong person and learned a hard lesson. you chose the wrong major and had to start over again. you cherished a friend who backstabbed you. it sucks, but it’s also going to work out. that’s life; you learn, hurt, love, cry, laugh, and keep going. you experience setbacks and you grow and it’s all okay.

DM, sick of Bard’s shit: Roll for it.
Bard OOC: *rolls a nat 20*
DM: Um… Roll again.
Bard OOC: *another nat 20*
DM: *sighs*
Bard OOC: Let‘s try this again. I cast Illusion, summoning Rick Astley before the kobald’s very fucking eyes.
DM: *rolls a 2 wisdom check* Okay, so he’s unconscious now from the fucking brutal Rickroll attack.

how to stay motivated as a writer
Reread your old writing. Especially those scenes you're proud of
Write something silly. Doesn’t need to be logical, or included in your story. Write something dumb
Compare your old writing to your new writing. Seeing how much you've improved is a great way to get motivated
Explore different storylines. Those type of storylines that would never make it into your novel, but that you'd still like to explore
Choose one of your least favorite scenes, or a really old one, and rewrite it
Read old comments from people praising your work
Create a playlist of music that reminds you of your wip
Don't push yourself to get back to what made you stop writing in the first place. Write something else
Write what you want to write, no matter how cliché it might be perceived as. It doesn't matter. If you want to write it, write it.
Take a break and focus on another hobby of yours. Consume other pieces of media, or take a walk to clear your head
You don't have to write in chronological order from the very beginning if it isn't working for you! Sometimes a scene you aren't interested in writing can become interesting after you've explored other scenes leading up to it/happening after it
Read one star reviews of ''awful'' books. As much as I hate to say it, you'll unlock a newly appreciated view on your own writing
create a new storyline, or a new character. Anything that helps bring something fresh into your story. Could even be a completely new wip
Not writing everyday doesn't make you a bad writer. If you feel you need a break, take one.
Remind yourself to have fun. Start writing and don't focus all your attention on following every rule created for writing. You can get into the nitty-gritty when you’ve familiarized yourself with writing as an art. Or don’t. It's fiction. You make your own rules.
Go to sleep, or take a nap. Sleep deprivation and writing does not go hand in hand (trust me)
Listen to music that reminds you of your characters/wip
Remember why you started. Know that you deserve to tell the story you want to tell regardless of the skill you possess

Not people saying “Fandom has always been like this” in that vent post I made. No. It hasn’t always been like this. Fandom has NEVER been like this until recently and if you were in fandom pre-tumblr purge, pre-twitter, pre-netflix boom, pre-tiktok….then you would fucking know it was nothing like this.
We still had the drive to create. We still sold prints and charms and made zines…but it was never like this.
The introduction of streaming, binge shows that drop all at once, tiktok and vine RIP i still love u vine but you were the beginning of a particularly ugly era) creating this bite sized, quick paced ‘content’ era of creation and it bled out into fucking everything else.
Fandoms didn’t die down when the show ended or the season was over. You didn’t mass unfollow artist, writers or moots just because they changed fandoms. There wasn’t this need to please the algorithm in order for your posts to get seen by people and enjoyed.
Fandoms used to last YEARS. Star Trek is literally the oldest running fandom out there and you got people in there that could care less about the new stuff and still have been happily prancing through their fucking fifty year old fandom today. Hell, even SPN after all it’s fuckups and shitshows has a dedicated fanbase STILL creating tons of art and fic.
There is no patience anymore. No calm feeling of taking in fandom and friends at a pace that which doesn’t make you stressed and is still fun.
Do I blame fandom for this? Of course not, but people are complacent with it and start changing their vocab to accommodate and end up making the situation so deep it cant be fixed.
We call Art & Fic Content now, completely stripping the value of what it is to a level of consumerism instead of personal entertainment & community bonding.

Is it just me, or are there less comments being written on fics nowadays? I get to a fic on AO3 that was posted weeks ago, and it has like 30 kudos but no comments yet. It happens more and more now. Why is that?
I don't like it.

kudos and hits do not indicate the quality of the fic, by the way.
I’ve read so many fics, that aren’t as popular, that are so professionally written that I immediately know the authors even know the characters better than their original creators, respectfully. and so many of those fics made me cry and I’ve always come back to reread them because they’re that good, even if they don’t reach many people. they’re literally in my heart and I even think about them during the day because they’re that special to me.
the bottom line: the number of kudos and hits do not represent whether the work is good or bad.
and if you’re an author, don’t let it discourage you if you think your works don’t get enough hits or kudos.
sometimes the best fics that have ever been written are like a rare treasure, not many people will find them, but I promise you, those who do will cherish them very dearly ♡

Now, I’m not saying romantic relationships are inferior, or that they’re useless, or that you being in one or that you shipping some characters romantically is Bad or something off the walls like that. What I’m saying is that two people (or characters, since we’re talking shipping here) can be just as devoted to each other, love each other just as deeply, mean just as much to each other while being in a platonic relationship. The end point of caring about someone doesn’t have to be romance.
Friendship isn’t a stepping stone between strangers and romantic partners, it’s a different path. And you can follow that path as deep into the wood as a romantic one if you want, and neither is inferior to the other, they just have different views.
