i keep meaning to be on this blog but never having the energy, so i’m proooobably gonna move bereto back to my multi and free up this url because i know someone’s gonna want it.

despite not being the twin that sees and hears sothis, bereto also goes minty once his sister returns from the void solon trapped her in. 

the explanation for this is that while byleth was implanted with sothis’ crest stone to save her life, its residual power kept bereto alive during the process. to keep jeralt loyal and produce a backup should anything ever happen to byleth, rhea produced an artifical stone to harness that residual power and keep the baby boy alive. it’s essentially a battery-- being in close proximity to byleth powers the stone, but he can survive apart from her; the stone has charged up enough power to last for five years. so long as that magic is present in the world, he will be safe. ( so he’s dying upon reuniting with her after the time skip, but it’s fine. )

when byleth is trapped in the void, bereto’s artificial stone is cut off entirely from its power source. none of that power remains in this world, and so he briefly dies. byleth’s return after merging with sothis resuscitates him, but the power in sothis’ crest stone has changed. in turn his artificial crest stone has come into contact with that stronger magic, so bereto’s hair goes minty as well. he still can’t use divine pulse or the full power of the sword of the creator, though.

Jeralt approached his son, coming to stand next to him with a sympathetic look on his face. The students were all chatting and dancing, the whole room full of more noise that they’d ever encountered as mercenaries. Jeralt remembered attending this ball years ago, with L–

“Hangin’ in there?” he asked. “The ball can be a lot…”

“ah-- oh, it’s just you... erm. hello, father.” 

   you jolt and straighten, not having been expecting company. like most of the knights, you’d been tasked with keeping an eye on the students. this section of the ballroom proved the most efficient place to do so, and while you’ve certainly opened up over the course of the year, you know you’re not as popular as your sister. apart from the odd greeting and conversation with some of her students, you’ve been left in peace to keep an eye on the festivities. cheeks flush, embarrassment over being so visibly startled evident in your features. at least it’s just your father... if sir alois had seen you jump like that, you know he’d be laughing about it for days on end. 

“more or less. i don’t think i’ve ever seen quite so many people in one place before...” it’s a little overwhelming if you’re being honest, but perhaps that’s why your father came looking for you. you suppose it makes sense; being responsible for two children who never cried in their infancy must give some sort of sixth sense. “they all look like they’re enjoying themselves. after everything that’s happened this year, it’s nice to see. i’m... happy.”
