EN: I absolutely love this photo! This is the pasteurs of the Azores in a nutshell. There are a lot of free ranged cows in the Azores. Yes, free ranged! As free as you and me can be (almost). This photo was taken in Pico island. A fun fact Terceira the kettle population doubles the human population. 

PT: Eu adoro esta foto! Este é um detalhe das numerosas paisagens de pastos dos Açores. O gado bovino nos Açores pastoreia livremente quase tão livremente como eu e tu (quase). Esta foto foi tirada na Ilha do Pico. Na ilha Terceira a população de gado bovino é cerca de duas vezes superior à população humana.

🇬🇧🇺🇸EN: I took many guests to see "Spermwhales" in the Azores over the years. I admit. They have an odd name. They gained this name because of the acoustic oil they have in their heads. That was the reason why they were so valuable in the XVIII and XIX century. When this oil would touch water it would get a milky consistency. This oil was very useful for the first engines made by man. Nowadays the whalers turned their experience into tourism and the populations of Sperwhales

🇵🇹🇧🇷PT: Ao longo dos anos tive o prazer de levar turistas para ver cachalotes. Se leram a minha explicação em inglês a explicação do nome em português é um pouco diferente. Em inglês como em português a explicação está alencada ao óleo acústico que possuem na cabeça. No entanto, cachalote é um evolução da expressão "cash-a-lot". As embarcações de caça à baleia levavam muitos açorianos a bordo que, compreensivelmente não falavam inglês. Os baleiros estimavam os cachalotes em barris (de oleo) não em metros. 😉

Mainly because of dolphinariums or the TV series "flipper". In this shoot you are looking at a female that is expecting. Argyropelecus hemigymnus is the scientific name if you want to find something more about him. Long story short they live at great depths and sometimes they float to the surface after storms. For us humans we can only see them after they parish unfortunately. Still when you find them at sea or at the beach is quite something!!
