I’m going to be very real here.
Already animal agriculture is perpetuating a progressing issue with antimicrobial drug resistance, environmental pollution, species extinction, and both human and non-human animal welfare. The intensification of animal rearing for production means more animals are living in higher densities, more land is being cleared for use, disease is harder to control, and more waste is being produced. At the rate the human population is increasing, this issue will only worsen if we do not address and correct it by cutting back on our dependency on animal agriculture. Already the environment is being affected by the massive pollution dumped out by the industry and associated industries. Already humans are suffering directly and indirectly from the effects of animal agriculture.Already billions of animals are suffering. Already several diseases in farmed animals are difficult to control because drugs no longer work effectively. Not to mention many effective drugs cannot be used in farmed animals because they may contaminate the product, or are valuable to human medicine and have to be preserved.
Animal agriculture is a medical, environmental, and welfare nightmare, and quite seriously needs to have it’s importance in our society and future re-evaluated without being tainted by economical and profitable desire. We need to start prioritising global health over money, and an effective way to do so is to reduce or eliminate our contribution to animal agriculture as well as support clean energy, use reusable bags, minimise your waste, and buy locally as much as possible. These small actions can do a world of difference if all of us actually try, and I promise you it is easier than it sounds to give it your best shot. Please, think of the bigger picture and help us preserve the future health of this planet and it’s occupants.
