The night before the train mission in the alps, Steve has a weird and strangely vivid dream of a woman crying. Not just crying, absolutely sobbing, screaming, so much screaming. Just losing her mind to grief with her hands covering her face, shaking and cowering on her knees. It isn't until after Bucky falls off the train, until he's sitting in that bombed out bar, that he makes the connection, remembering those old Irish folk stories his mother used to tell him.

If anyone needed to hear this.
closeted lgbt kids: you’re not cowards if you can’t get yourself to speak up during classwide debates about your rights. it’s okay. you don’t have to put yourself through that. please put your mental health and safety first. it’s not your fault. i love you and i’m sorry

once again thinking about how it was only 3 weeks between steve waking up from the ice and the battle of new york. that’s barely enough time for him to even convince himself he’s real

has anyone ever spoken about how in the first avenger, marvel dodged calling steve a slur by having another soldier call him "tinkerbell". like. an. alternative to calling him a fairy. which unironically wholeheartedly wouldve been used as a slur against gay men at the time the movie takes place. does anyone hear me

once again thinking about how loud the war must have been for steve. how many times he reflexively reached up to cover his ears before he was able to get himself to a place of almost being used to it. or at least bearing it. how it never truly became bearable, and he'd get back to his tent at the end of a long night or a hotel on leave and no amount of covering his ears would block out the ringing in his head
and i'll forever be feral over the thought of bucky coming in and gently covering steve's hands over his ears with his own and murmuring, "I know, pal, i know"

Steve loses his mother
Steve can no longer pretend that he doesn't hurt, one rainy afternoon he just breaks down crying with the only person who always supports him. That day Bucky stayed at Steve's house, the next day too, and the next. Bucky promised him that he would never leave Steve alone, 'till the end of the line.

steve starting a sentence or a question and bucky responding before he can even finish and no one knowing what the sentence was even going to be
"can you get--"
"already on the list"

steve having a rocky sense of "home", because the concept of "home" growing up was always fleeting. how he learned very young that home isn't a place, it's people, and that it can be pulled out from under you at any time. his dad making the four walls of his and his ma's apartment far from a safe space to call home, but the barnes' apartment always welcoming him and sarah with open arms.
he's a wanderer, always has been, but it's especially evident when bucky comes in from the cold and he seems to find his way back home fairly quickly, because he has a baseline. always knew what a good home and family looked like, sounded like, felt like in his bones. was raised on the notion of community and safety-- things that weren't guaranteed for steve as a kid.
and bucky knows this, and he sees steve struggling. sees him still drifting, wandering. lost. a ghost in his own skin. and he knows he can't be the one to show steve that he can settle now. he knows it needs to be steve that believes that. but he can do what he's always done. hold him close and hold the front door open, waiting and ready for steve to be ready to come in.

What a GREAT DAY to be a Steve Rogers defender. I just saw a video of Sebastian stan talking about Steve’s ending and answerd a question if he felt Steve abandoned Bucky.
He said “i never saw it that way. And if I didn’t see it that way bucky didn’t see it that way.”
To quote him again: “when one of them is like i gotta do this for me, the other guy is like i got it. I know. You do that for you and I’ll do this for me.”
He said a lot more and I thought it was beautiful said so please go see the video urself if ur curious to hear his answer more detailed.
Also personally I dislike Steve’s ending. BUT NOW WE CAN FINALLY HEAR THE END OF “he abandoned Bucky so I hate him blah blah blah” FINALLY.
(I also heard that he wanted to make a prequel of the first avenger where they went deeper in Steve and Buckys friendship??? WHAT A GREAT DAY TO BE A STUCKY FAN TOO!!)
#Sebastian Stan#bucky barnes#the winter solider#Steve rogers#captain America#Chris Evans#Stucky#marvel#Sebastian Stan I LOVE YOU.#i’m going to scream#he answers the questions so beautifully

I hate to be bearer of bad news, but we, Steve and Bucky defenders, may need to prepare ourselves for the next season of What if.
One of the reported episodes is "What if the Winter Soldier killed Peggy Carter?"
The show adores Peggy and Steggy, so I only see one scenario happening. Steve is going to beat Bucky to pulp just like Tony in Civil War. Tony Stan's are going to feast on it!
Oh good grief!
I can only hope that Steve will stay in character as the guy who would rather die than hurt Bucky. The guy who was willing ot risk death himself in CA:TWS to save his brother. SO FAR ..."What if" has handled the relationship between Steve and Bucky well, Captain Carter nonsense notwithstanding.
Like, in Season 2, there was an arc which reversed the roles of Steve and Peggy, in which Steve fell of the train and Peggy got the serum. In that arc, Steve became a brainwashed HYDRA asssasin and was sent to kill Bucky in the 1980s. Its the same one in which Bucky became Secretary of State, and he was quite willing to risk his own safety to bring Steve back.
Season One showed that Peggy knew that Bucky was being held captive by HDYRA from as early as the 1980s, and did nothing. Which I am sure is something Steve would not have looked kindly upon.
However, I would not put it past the makers to do some alt of CA:CW in which Steve goes cray-cray and tries to k*ll Bucky. I would not even put it past them to try some more role reversal and have T*ny trying to protect him, or something. If that happens then T*ny Stans will have a field day, as you say.
Let's just hope it doesn't.
