i think my main issue with “feminist retellings” is that they always tend to fall in the same bio-essentialist narrative that women are inherently good. the women whose stories they claim to finally be telling still don’t have any agency of their own and are still moved around by the events (and men) of the story instead of doing any of the moving themselves. and, honestly, i think painting a woman as a person incapable of ever doing wrong is just as misogynistic as painting her as a wholly evil witch.

tldr: let your female characters be horrible people 2025

"Tree of Life" mosaic from Hisham's Palace, built in the 8th century CE in Jericho by the Umayyad Caliphate.

This mosaic shows animals on both sides of the tree of life, symbolizing the duality of life: good and evil, war and peace.

It is packed full of philosophical symbolism, reflecting the nature of life.

On the right of the tree, a lion devours gazelle; on the left, two gazelles graze peacefully.

NOTE:

Hisham's Palace, also known as Khirbat al-Mafjar, is an important early Islamic archaeological site in the Palestinian city of Jericho, in the West Bank. It is one of the so-called Umayyad desert castles.

Hi, my name is Saeed, I am 19 years old, I live in an unjust reality, the war on Gaza.

This war destroyed my ambitions to study engineering and robbed me of everything beautiful in my life that I lived with my family that embraced me, my father, mother, brothers, sisters and nephews. We had a beautiful house with its simplicity, where we lived a simple and beautiful life, but in this war our house was completely destroyed, our memories that we preserved and our unknown future, our present is more difficult than you can imagine. We have become living for the purpose of living only and escaping death, we die every moment to provide the necessities and requirements of life, we have felt the taste of death repeatedly, when you hear the sounds of bombs and explosions and see the remains and children and the panic that we live.

So we decided to travel from this place and move to a safe place, where we find the future and the present to build memories. But the cost of travel is very high and we cannot afford it. We need an amount of 5 thousand dollars for each person and my family consists of 9 people, as well as the cost after the travel until we find a safe haven.
