uh ohhh i learned how to make zines and im going to be insufferable now watch out!!!!
i draw myself as a human in a world of little cats bc covid denialism makes me feel like i am living in a different reality than everyone else. i also just like drawing little cats
also v much feel the need to clarify that the "masking only works if everyone does it" mentality is not even true!! yes obviously it is MOST effective when we all do it but anything to break the chain of transmission is worth doing and w a high quality respirator one way masking still reduces your chances of getting covid and passing it onto your loved ones
anyways. live life breathe air i know somehow we're gonna get there

In its latest data updates today the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported further rises in some COVID-19 indicators from very low levels, including test positivity, which rose slightly, from 8.6% to 8.9% over the past week. Positivity was higher in some regions, at 12.5% in the Southwest, 11.8% in Texas and surrounding states, and 10% in the Northwest. Meanwhile, emergency department (ED) visits for COVID rose 12.4% from the previous week. The CDC said ED visits rose for all age-groups. Mississippi reported a substantial increase in ED visits, with Texas and Louisiana reporting moderate increases. AstraZeneca today announced the launch of FluMist Home, the first at-home delivery of its inhaled flu vaccine, which can now be self-administered by adults ages 18 to 49 years old or by a parent or caregiver to children ages 2 to 17 years old. In a press release, the company said adults can order the vaccine online, where they will fill out a medical screening questionnaire. Once a licensed healthcare provider approved medical eligibility and insurance is verified, FluMist is prescribed and shipped to the consumer’s home on the selected date. The at-home option is available in 34 states for the upcoming flu season. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved self- or caregiver-administered FluMist in September 2024, making it the first flu vaccine that doesn’t have to be administered by a healthcare provider. The vaccine is still available at doctor's offices. Four countries reported more polio cases this week, including Pakistan with another wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1), case, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) said in its latest weekly update. Pakistan is one of two countries in which WPV1 is still endemic, and the latest case lifts the country's total for the year to 19. Three countries reported more circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) cases. Ethiopia confirmed six cases, including four from Oromiya, bringing its total to 40. Nigeria reported one case in Sokoto, lifting its total to 23. And Yemen recorded 46 cases in 10 governorates, but only 4 are from 2025, which make 16 for the year. In other developments, Israel reported three more wastewater detections of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 1 (cVDPV1), two from Center and one from Jerusalem.

Summer heat, outdoor fun ... and cold and flu symptoms? The three may not go together in many people’s minds: partly owing to common myths about germs and partly because many viruses really do have lower activity levels in the summer. But it is possible to get the sniffles — or worse — in the summer. Federal data released Friday, for example, shows COVID-19 is trending up in most states, with emergency department visits up among people of all ages. Here’s what to know about summer viruses.

disabled people who do not directly "contribute" to society and need large amounts of care and resources to survive deserve not only to survive but to have comfort, stability, and fun within their lives while they do. no compromises.

For those who still don't mask:
You know how the trans community asked cis folks to put their pronouns in the email signatures and the like so they didn't out themselves by making theirs public?
Consider this.
In a country that is being fueled by fascism - which is big on eugenics - if the only people masking are people with chronic illness and immune deficiency, then by not masking you're leaving us high and dry not just to the virus, not just to social isolation, but to fascists who consider us a threat to country.
So even if you really don't think COVID is a big deal - fucking mask.

Nessie @raccoonmilf, founder of the original Dashcon (who came up with the idea at 15 and then had the project hijacked by a bunch of adults who exploited her for child labor 😭) in a Marie-Antoinette-inspired Ball Pit Queen outfit constructed by herself + me as Yugioh Robespierre, at the incredible post-cringe redemption that was Dashcon 2.
We did NOT plan this coincidence but once we realized it we did plan that little failed revolution quelled by Sir @strange-aeons at the Closing Ceremony!

hi knitting tumblr. um i don't knit but my aunt recently passed and left behind a bunch of extremely high quality yarn. i know very little about yarn and even less about knitting, so i'd like to sell it, and i'm planning on trying ravelry and local facebook groups, but i wanted to see if there's anybody local who is interested.
i live in southern ontario, but the yarn is currently in central ontario. if there's enough interest i could do a yard sale instead of transporting the yarn home? let me know and we'll see
i'm attaching some pics to give an idea of what i've got. this is only a fraction of it. please let me know if you have any interest or know anyone who would be willing to purchase some! i'd also appreciate any more advice on sites, communities, etc. where i could offload some of it.

Well my loves, it appears as though the answer to "Can the Big Pattern Company (Simplicity/Burda/McCalls/ect.) survive the death of JoAnn?" has come.
The answer is no. No it cannot. It has been sold to a liquidator just like JoAnns was.
So if there is ANYTHING you want I suggest you get it now. simplicity.com is currently having a pattern sale and I snatched up some that might be useful for cosplay purposes.
I am very glad these last couple of years I have built up my collection.

The number of measles cases in the U.S. so far this year has quadrupled compared to 2024 and is nearing a 30-year high. As of Friday, there have been 1,168 confirmed measles cases across 33 states nationwide, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Last year, the U.S. saw just 285 measles cases, CDC data shows. The U.S. is currently on track to surpass the 1,274 cases seen in 2019, and is expected to see the highest number of cases since 1992. The 33 states with confirmed cases include Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia and Washington. Among the nationally confirmed cases, the CDC says 95% are among people who are unvaccinated or whose vaccination status is unknown.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has updated its warning about the risk of contracting measles while traveling, after the agency tallied dozens of cases so far this year in travelers who were infectious while flying on airplanes within the U.S. "Travelers can catch measles in many travel settings including travel hubs like airports and train stations, on public transportation like airplanes and trains, at tourist attractions, and at large, crowded events," the agency now says, in an update published Wednesday.

The People's CDC has put out a new COVID-19 Weather Report.
Highlights:
Wastewater trends show that the amount of COVID in wastewater is remaining relatively stable at low or very low levels across the country.
Billions of dollars set aside for COVID-19 relief funds were terminated on March 24 of this year by the Trump administration. In response, the District of Columbia and 16 states sued, and courts recently said that the funds should be restored to DC and to the states that were listed in the suit.
LP.8.1 remains the dominant variant in the US and worldwide, though a new variant, NB.1.8.1 has been leading to increased cases in the eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and western Pacific regions. So far, it has been detected at some airport screenings in the US, but it has not made it to high enough levels to be reported on our variant tracker– though it could be a possible reason for the high levels of COVID noted in Guam. The WHO notes this “variant under monitoring” does not seem to be more transmissible or more dangerous than other circulating variants. Importantly, WHO also notes that current vaccines should offer protection from this new variant.
Last week, the FDA announced in a comment in the New England Journal of Medicine that they will be limiting vaccines to people over 65 and those with certain health conditions. This decision is very dangerous. COVID vaccines protect people of all ages from severe infection and death. They’re essential for protecting pregnant people and their babies up to six months after birth.
Last week, RFK released his MAHA (“Make America Healthy Again”) report, using citations that don’t exist, and making scientifically unsupported claims.
Earlier last month, a report on Transgender care was produced with the help of eight so-called “distinguished scholars,” who were apparently so ashamed of their work that they didn’t want their names revealed. (Of course, the administration argues that their names were withheld to “maintain the integrity of this process.”) The report is garbage: It goes against all of the current best practices and recommendations made by major medical organizations. You can read the American Academy of Pediatrics’ response to the report here.
