she's fragile and she's ferocious as the current flows through. she's a conductor, caught in slow motion, the orchestra plays loud. over and over, the same motion, this work is never done.

( Â &. â ft. miguel !
PERCHED UPON A bar stool, staring up at the dark-haired beauty on the other side of the bar with a gentle smile resting on his features, miguel could only wish their situation was different. contrary to popular belief, he was capable of falling for someone, of being interested in someone beyond what they bring to the bedroom. he had been prepared to take it all the way with courtney, biding their time slowly out of respect for her, until he got impatient and they slept together. now, everything was different - she was distant, fumbling, cautious. miguel couldnât help but blame himself. âsounds entertaining,â he told the girl, folding his arms and leaning against the bar, glancing over his shoulder as if to look for remnants of sticky milkshake mess. ânah, the usual, please,â he said, turning back to the girl with a lopsided smile. she remembered his order. â - what time are you off ? let me buy you a shake, some fries to share or something. i wanna catch up, we havenât talked in ⊠a while,â he told her tilting his head at the beauty, putting on the look in his hazel eyes that so often got him what he wanted.
her instinctual reaction was to lie and say she still had another couple hours of working, or tell him she had some family obligation she needed to go straight home to. not because she didnât want to catch up with him, or because she didnât care about him, but quite the opposite -- because she cared too much. but their friendship was finally starting to mend, and it wasnât fair to him to pull away just because she ached for something more than friendship, more than a casual hookup. â --- um, i finish at 9, â she said, glancing at the clock again. â --- so in a few minutes. â courtney looked back at him, making eye contact, and immediately regretted it when his gaze tugged at her heart sharply. he had to know the effect those stupid hazel eyes had on her. she had never been so grateful she wasnât much of a blusher. courtney pulled her gaze away, turning to make his coffee milkshake. â --- oh, you donât have to do that. i can buy my own milkshake. âÂ

( Â &. â ft. gemma !Â
gemma nodded to what courtney said . it was nice for the other girl to do be doing what she was . which gem was never used to it . senior year was a rough one for the girl . so it was always nice for an act of kindness from someone. â â oh iâd love to see you do that ! it would make my day . yea , but i have a tendancy to be late - many times. â she confessed with a chuckle , rubbing her arm as she told courtney. â i like your transportation , by the way . totally neat . â smiling she nodded , before adding . â except when you almost hit me with it . â she teases with a laugh.Â
â --- trouble waking up ? â courtney guessed when gemma confessed her habit of being late. she was a natural early bird, and liked waking up long before she had to, but she could still understand wanting to stay in bed a few minutes longer. â --- oh, thanks, â courtney said, glancing back at where her bicycle was locked up. â --- yeah, sorry about that again. sheâs got a mind of her OWN, i swear, but she gets me to where i need to be. â

(  &. â ft. tinsley !
âjesus christ!â tinsley yelled, startling so hard she fell back into her car seat. her heart was beating fast, and she was gripping her coffee cup so hard it got a small dent in the side. this wasâŠÂ one way to wake yourself up in the morning. but then again, tinsley had started her day in a pretty bad haze to begin with. sheâd barely been lucid enough to have a conversation with her parents this morning, and had made an instant bee line for the nearest Dunkin Donuts on her way to school (not that it had helped). today was a sweatpants and ditch gym class to nap kind of day. not a die prematurely of a heart attack because someone canât ride a bike kind of day.
she took a deep breath when she saw who it was, relaxing back into her car seat. not that she was ABOVE cursing someone out for something like this normally. but seeing courtney sat at the bike in question just made her feel⊠embarrassed for yelling. tinsley ran a hand through her hair, collecting herself. âride much, courtney?â she joked half-heartedly. ââ nah, itâs honestly cool. you just scared the shit out of me.â her eyes fell to courtneyâs bike. âdid you like, crash your car or something?â
â --- i donât have a car, tins, â courtney said, eyebrow quirking at the fact tinsley didnât know that. then again, tinsley had always been a little oblivious, and the girls hadnât exactly been close for a long while now. â --- besides, they produce greenhouse gas emissions and support child labour in congo cobalt mines. â she cocked her head at the other girl, noting her shaken demeanour. although the two girls werenât really friends anymore, and courtney had long gotten over her sophomore crush, she still could be concerned. â --- uh ... you sure youâre okay ? â

( Â &. â ft. miguel ! Â Â
THE BEST WAY to end hours of gruelling training for state soccer playoffs that were coming up was a coffee milkshake ( his usual order ) from melâs. pulling up to the exterior of the building, freshly-showered hair tucked underneath a cap to keep it under control, miguelâs eyes landed on the female standing behind the bar. she was in her own world, unfiltered and real, not having seen him yet. she looked beautiful, even in the outfit that looked more like a halloween costume. he wondered if he should pull away, leave before she realizes heâs in the parking lot â but that shake. getting out of his mustang, miguel sauntered up to the door, hands shoved into his pockets as he entered, plastering the well-known velasquez smirk on his lips once the two made eye contact. âhey,â he replied coolly, moving to stand away from the doorway and perch himself upon a barstool, all while maintaining his eye contact with the smaller girl. âyou see an entourage ?â he questioned with a lopsided smirk, jokingly looking over his shoulder before turning back to the brunette. while may have seemed cool on the outside, he couldnât help but think about earlier times when he would pick her up after her shift, listening to horror stories of customers all the way to her house where heâd send her off with a goodnight, all the while wishing he could have kissed her. ââs just me,â he told her, elbows perched on the bat to rest his chin atop his hands. he wished heâd have brought one of the guys, maybe then there would be someone to break the ice. â so â busy night ?â miguel questioned, immediately regretting how fake it sounded.
he was so casual, so cool and unaffected, while she was a fumbling mess. she envied him for it -- courtney had never been able to be anything less than wholly passionate about everything in her life. apparently, that included boys. just a short while ago, she had finally begun to see past his cool exterior. and then she had gone and fucked it all up by falling for him. his steady eye contact made her insides flutter, and she pulled her gaze away from his, her eyes landing instead on his damp hair. of course -- he mustâve come from soccer practice. in a rush, she was reminded of nights just like this, back when everything was so simple -- he would come by after practice to order his coffee milkshake, stay talking with her until her shift was over, and then drive her home. at first, courtney had declined his lifts home, insisting instead on biking home along the dark, empty streets of ventura. but now, she yearned to be sitting next to him again in the front seat of his mustang, complaining about her boss and laughing over dumb jokes. there hadnât been nights like that in a while. â --- CRAZY busy, â courtney complained, although she was glad for something to talk about, something to distract her from how stupidly attractive he was. â --- we had a kidâs birthday party in here earlier, and i think they actually spilled more milkshake than they drank. â she couldnât help but grin at the memory, though. â --- speaking of milkshakes, do i even need to give you a menu or will it be the USUAL ? â

( Â &. â ft. tanner ! Â Â
â good i expect to hear you screaming the loudest, â he says with a smile. Although Courtney wasnât directly involved in school athletics she had school spirit that would make anyone believe the opposite. She was loud and proud whenever she was at a game. tannerâs initial reaction was confusion when posed whether gemma was coming or notâ what did she have to do with anything? then he notices her look and starts making some connections. â I dunno, â he shrugs and takes another sip of his shake. âyou and miguel gonnaâ sit together? â he fires back at her. It was no secret to him that too were hanging out together once again and it was only fair for him to get a jab in too. âheard you two were hanging out again so iâm guessing that means youâre down for a round two? â
at his words, courtneyâs eyes widened and she shot him a look. she probably shouldnât have been surprised tanner knew about her and miguel, seeing as the two boys were best friends, but it was still jarring to hear it addressed so bluntly. especially since she and miguel hadnât even talked about what had happened between them. â --- shut up. weâre just friends, â she said, busying herself with wiping down the counter. even though she wished they were more. â --- unlike you and gemma. i saw you gazing into each otherâs eyes the other night. â

(  &. â ft. gemma !  Â
â you know â i .. um .. appreciate this , court . i do. â gem slowly telling the other as gem wasnât really use to something like this , somebody helping her out. if somebody did - gem was never in the right mind to thank them. now , she was sober and aware.  â iâm also warning you , since youâre walking in there with me . chances are youâll get chewed out with me .â she stated with a laugh as she lead the way to the gym.Â
â --- itâs no biggie, â courtney promised the other girl. she was telling the truth; she didnât mind helping, and she had time to kill before class began, anyway. she shrugged, following gemma. â --- if they chew me out, iâm chewing THEM out for chewing me out. i didnât do anything wrong. besides, youâre hardly late. nobody should be chewing ANYONE out. â she couldnât imagine anyone being able to yell at the soft, kind girl she was walking with.
