I picked up my cat Icarus from the shelter today, I've wanted to own a cat my entire life and because of Situations I've not been able to, but it's finally happened. I am very much leaving him alone, approaching him every so often to offer sniff (he seldom wants it, but he is very chill and non stressed in his responses) and he has sniffed around the room, eaten, had water, even pooped. We have mutually Observed each other. I think this will be going very well.
