Being a kid in the late 90s’ - early 2000s’ was such a strange experience - with your parents and classmates telling you that LGBT+ folk were the equivalent to strange monsters. It was right when things were trying to change but so many TV shows had such awful portrayals of gay and trans characters and made fun of them whilst saying you shouldn’t make fun of them??? (Family Guy, Friends, South Park, Big Bang Theory and many more).
I remember my grandparents and dad making fun of the gay pride parade when I was a kid, calling them freaks and not understanding gay marriage, whilst my unknowingly closeted ass didn’t understand why it hurt me so much to hear it.
We need to stand up for our rights and make ourselves known that we aren’t freaks. The only freaks are the ones that want us dead.
