Support our #fundraising efforts for #PROJECTBAMBOO on @startsomegood TODAY! @batakcraft and @coopita_asia are honoured to present our our crowdfunding campaign - Project Bamboo. LINK IN BIO! The last guardians of the vanishing rainforests of Palawan, the Batak are ill-equipped to operate in today’s market economy. Without access to education, they have a hard time finding jobs and earning a steady income. Our mission: To work within the tribe’s cultural foundation to create an alternative and sustainable livelihood for the Bataks. - @batakcraft will develop the tribe’s skill and process efficiency in traditional basket-weaving, document the tribe and its culture alongside, and helping them sell their products to an international market. - We also aim to provide a product refinement training programme for the tribe, so that they can eventually take ownership of every aspect of the product to market value chain. #indigenousart #philippines #palawan #forest #tribe #craft #basketry #bamboo #sustainable #homedecor #lifestyle #batak #supporthandmade #preservetradition #design #photooftheday #instagood #instapic #innovation #crowdfunding #socialenterprise #socialgood #cause #4change #alllivesmatter

Have you ever wondered how preserving traditional craft can trigger economic #empowerment and social change? Let us tell you the story of Mollo weavers and Aleta Baun. In East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, weaving is helping the Mollo society in restoring their image as a cultural tribe while upholding harmony with nature. Supported by efforts of the Goldman Environment Prize winner, Aleta Baun, the Mollo weavers have been able to return to their lands which was under threat of acquisition from mining companies. Using natural elements around them, the Mollo weavers today want to showcase their #traditionalheritage to the world. Meet the weavers and interact with them while their products tell the story of their struggles. See you all at Meet the Makers SG on May 12 and 13. #mollo #indonesia #weaversofinstagram #indigenous #aletabaun #saveenvironment #ethicalfashion #nature #slowfashionmovement #chooseartisan #textiles #artisan #chooseartisan #sustainablefashion #craftasart #craftpreservation #slowfashion #meetthemakers #gitnbasia #instagood #travelasia #transparency

“They (younger generation) only regard batik as traditional patterns or motifs. But it's actually a process, a wax-resist dyeing technique. They see textiles with traditional patterns and think they're batik, when they were actually printed. I hope that by seeing the simple batiks, they will be more curious to learn more about traditional batiks” - Ms Sancaya Rini, founder Kanawida Workshop. @kanawida workshop makes batik clothing pieces more adaptable for younger generations. They have adapted a Japanese-esque aesthetics using traditional wax-resist dyeing technique in their attempt to preserve the traditional batik techniques. Learn and interact with Kanawida Workshop during Meet the Makers SG on May 12 and 13. (at Equarius Hotel, Sentosa)

"Dressing to impress has an environmental cost as well as a financial one. From the pesticides poured on cotton fields to the washes in which denim is dunked, making 1kg of fabric generates 23kg of greenhouse gases on average, according to estimates by McKinsey, a consultancy. Because consumers keep almost every type of apparel only half as long as they did 15 years ago, these inputs go to waste faster than ever before. The latest worry is shoppers in the developing world, who have yet to buy as many clothes as rich-world consumers but are quickly catching up." - "Green is The New Black", The Economist, 5 April 2017 This is why we love brands like #ninoshka that embody #sustainablefashion . MEET THE MAKER - Dipti Daryanani Ahuja and Dipna Daryanani of Love The World Today. "I'd say don’t care about creating something that people like or demand. Create something that ‘you’ genuinely want to create because then you’re sharing something honest. When you’re selling your work, you’re sharing a part of who you are with the world. And that is something that you should always remember. But that said and done, there are ups and downs. It is essential to have a drive, and a readiness to accept failure and kick-start each time you fail. It is a steady but uphill journey where you are trying to grasp so many new things on the way and growing as an individual at the same time. We are here to enjoy the journey, experience the learning, do something new and unknown. We may stumble during the course of the journey, but it will be beautiful. I know it’s not practical advice, but never lose the instincts and the craziness you have within. The strength you find within and the experiences you collect will always be greater than any regret." - Dipna Read more via the link in bio and check out their fabulous clothes on Coopita.com #meetthemaker #bethechange #femalefounders #ladyboss #textiles #handmade #kidsclothes #kidsofinstagram #slowfashion #ethicalfashion #sustainable #style #greenfashion #momsofinstagram #mommyblogger (at Singapore)

"Ours was an unhurried childhood full of carefree somersaults, unending hula-hoops, bedtime stories and conversations with the moon. Even though we are very different individuals and come from different professional worlds, somewhere the essence of our growing up years acts as a common thread and seeps into everything we do. At LTWT, we try and ensure everything we do has an impact to the our larger purpose. Because we believe little by little, does become a lot. We work with organic cotton and hand-woven fabrics thus supporting organic cotton farmers as well as weavers and artisans in the country. We work on fair terms with our units. Our accessories for children is made out of the textile scrap or production excess, just ensuring the waste doesn’t land up in land fills. Our packaging bags are 100% recycled. We send out seed papers as gifts for the little souls with a larger message." Dipna and Dipti, Founders, Love The World Today. Stay tuned for our Meet The Maker Spotlight on these amazing female founders later today! #organiccotton #naturaldye #thoughtfuldesign #kidsofinstagram #kidsfashion #ethicalfashion #sustainablefashion #madewithlove #kidsootd (at Singapore)
