Every day I am reminded that the only way to win at tumblr is to say the most insane thing you can think of and hope other people are also exactly as insane as you are,

whoever said “write drunk, edit sober” has never felt the raw power + exhilaration of cutting down a 17k chapter after two XL margaritas

Harry, Ron and Hermione. No it does not matter the order. This combo works with each of these idiots equally it just depends on how you look at it
Polycule but it’s just two people in a romantic relationship with each other and their third who’s pretty obviously aroace but also somehow so deeply intertwined in their lives that it’d just be wrong to not count them as involved. Is this anything.

This feels like a Percy Jackson encounter of some sort.....
you walk into the minor god-of-the-week's arena and his huge mounted pet moose head decides your fate
haven't been to a mooseheads game in person for over a year and apparently they made some changes to the arena.... the main one being a gigantic moose bust that flashes red eyes and shoots smoke out it's nose when we score

Thinking REALLY hard about my WIP where Harry (in his mid 20's) is effectively transported back in time and takes up the DADA position and ends up being the magical equivalent of the cool younger English teacher that the slightly weird students flock to.
Except it's younger Harry's 2nd year (or pick any year, honestly) and Harry & co are the kind-of-weird kids in question.
Give me Harry with rugs and floor pillows and bean bags etc in his classroom. Give me older harry playing 90's grunge and shit while his most troublesome students are trying to solve mysteries from the slouchy armchairs he has in the corner. They think they're slick!!! LOL. They're insane if they think that they're getting anywhere near the issue-of-the-year TM.
Harry is handling whatever that year's issue is by Christmas break, horcrux hunting on breaks, and doing his darndest to prevent a war no one else knows is coming. Anyways it's more of a dimension travel thing than time travel for my own sanity, but I'm so normal about it (I'm not).

With the impending implementation of Project 2025, I suspect that AO3 will come under fire as well. And given that it’s a US based organisation, and the US has wedged itself somehow into every possible thing, I would also suspect that this will have global impacts. I cannot be certain of it - I’m certainly not an expert on political things and Trump remains, frankly, unpredictable - but I have personally found it’s more helpful to prepare beforehand than to scramble to keep myself afloat in the midst of a crisis. Knowing how important our favourite stories are to so many of us, here’s what I suggest:
Readers, I recommend you find your favourite stories again. Go all the way back in your bookmarks. Tell the authors you appreciate them, and you love their work. I think we could all use some nice words right now. If you want to keep the story, I recommend downloading it: here’s a guide on how to do so from the AO3 FAQ. I personally have wanted to take up bookbinding for a hot second; I might print off my favourite fics for myself and figure out how to bind them. The OTW also recommends downloading your favourites - see link below.
Authors, I recommend you keep your manuscripts. Download them onto an external flash drive and save them for a rainy day four or so years from now. Even the ones you don’t like are worth keeping - I guarantee you somebody else likes them even if you don’t. (I’m speaking to myself here, too.) Project 2025 has blatantly laid out a ban of pornography, and they will take that to mean whatever they want it to; I suggest you don’t even keep your fics on a Google drive if possible it’s definitely easier to keep them all online, trust me, I know, but so does the government. Corporations do not care about you: they will sell you out to whoever is willing to pay. Remember also to turn off AI scraping wherever possible, or better yet use sites that don’t engage in that behaviour.
For further reading from people more qualified than I, here’s the OTW’s statement on what their plans are so far.
I hope I’m wrong. I honestly would love nothing more. But more importantly, we will get through this. Humanity has told stories and put blorbos in situations for literal millennia. We’ll see the other side of this.

Tim: and here’s a nice photo of you and Bruce eating bat burgers after patrol.
Robin!jason: This is a good picture kid, do you think you could print me another one?
Tim: sure thing, Jason!
Jason: thanks kid, I- Wait a minute
Tim:
Jason:
Tim:
Jason: how-
Tim: already pointing to the part of his conspiracy board where he’s correctly guessed their identities: I already showed you the board, Jason, keep up.
Kid!Tim, showing Robin his room: So we have my photography cubby, not to be confused by my homework cubby. Then my desk, bed, conspiracy wall, wardrobe, other desk for my conspiracy wall-
Robin!Jason, nodding along with a fake smile. Pointing towards a side desk with candles and several framed photos of Batman: And what’s that over there.
Tim: oh that’s just my Batman shrine.
Jason: Ah.
Tim: Anyway! This is the kennel for all four of my stuffed dogs, my bookshelf for my conspiracy wall-

Dialogue tips that actually work:
You are not writing a movie (ignore this if you are). The reader doesn't need to know every word the characters say for the duration of the story. Less is more.
Dialogue can happen within the prose. "And they awkwardky discussed the weather for five minutes" is way better than actually writing five pages of dialogue about the weather.
Balance your dialogues. Surprise yourself with a monosyllabic answe to a dialogue that's ten sentences long. Don't be afraid of letting your character use half a page for a reply or nothing at all!
Don't write accents phonetically, use slang and colloquialisms if needed.
Comma before "said" and no caps after "!?" unless it's an action tag. Study dialogue punctuation.
Learn the difference between action tags and dialogue tags. Then, use them interchangeably (or none at all).
Don't be afraid to use said. Use said if characters are just saying things, use another word if not. Simple. There's no need to use fancy synonyms unless absolutely necessary.
Not everyone talks the same way so it makes sense for your characters to use certain words more often than others. Think of someone who says "like" to start every sentence or someone who talks really slow. Be creative.
Use prose to slow down the pace during a conversation.
Skip prose to speed up the pace during a conversation.

My dad used to do a bluesy version of blue moon (Elvis, I think?) where he but the version he sang was so upbeat and he scatted in it and it NEVER put me to sleep but it is burned deep in my memory. And I’m very fond of it.
So imagine watching a 6’3 man putting his 6 y/o to bed and then he takes a HUGE deep breath and then starts scatting out of nowhere. that kid is not falling asleep. But she is confused and impressed. So it kinda worked in the end maybe.
If you had to sing a child to sleep RIGHT NOW what would you sing and it CANT BE a lullaby it has to be a regular song
