Begging people to understand that homophobia doesn't mean "being mean to gay people because they're gay", misogyny doesn't mean "being mean to women because they're women," and transphobia doesn't mean "being mean to trans people because they're trans."

These are all intertwined systems of oppressive social control.

The whole THING is that gender policing of all types is used to keep people in line to make them act "normal" (to act as their gender should).

When a young boy doesn't want to play football and his brothers do, and they call him a sissy, they are being homophobic, transphobic, and misogynistic. Even if he is straight and cisgender.

If a cishet woman is derisively asked "what are you, a lesbian?" For having short hair, she has experienced homophobia, transphobia, and misogyny.

One of the reasons it's so necessary to discuss them is because they are systems of control. The words aren't just describing types of hate crimes etc perpetrated against certain groups of people, it describes the violent aspects of cisnormativity, heteronormativity, and the patriarchy.

This post was made bc im mad about ppl being like "how would a person not lgbtq experience homophobia" (something I literally just saw) and "trans men can't experience misogyny and especially not transmisogyny" and "I'm a wholeass lesbian I can't be homophobic" (both sentiments I've seen multiple times before almost word for word). Those are just a few examples of the stuff I've seen said online from people who unfortunately don't understand how systems of oppression work to keep everyone in line.

Transphobia, homophobia, and misogyny are all inseparably intertwined because they come from the same place and have the same purpose.

Fun Story to Share.

I got my (now 18-year-old) daughter into Ao3 back in 2021. I taught her she should always comment - even if the fic looks old or abandoned or whatever. She did.

Well - she got this email this morning:

The fic was written in 2014 and essentially abandoned.

Bethy read and reviewed in 2021 (and was actually the only person who had commented at all).

Today in 2025 - the final chapter was posted by the author and this was her reply to Bethy’s comment.

that one study that was talking about how the “gay voice” can be viewed as just what post-testosterone based puberty voices sound like when not trained into culturally masculine modes of inflection and intonation. I think that’s a great masculinity based example of the same phenomenon as discussed in my previous post. Like the reason speaking in that way is gender nonconforming is likely because it reveals the effort and practice that goes into “natural” adult masculinity. it draws attention to the fact that the narrow allowable masculinity is constructed and necessarily learned in order to be perfected.

omg cute couples post! tbh the monogamy thing would never work for me or my partner but this is cute. honestly monogamy is just like NOT something i could ever do but that's great. i hope you're both happy! personally because of MY boundaries i'd cave my own fucking skull in before trying monogamy but that's sooooo cute for you different strokes for different folks ❤️ i mean i've just had such bad experiences with monogamy that the idea disgusts and upsets me but it's so great that you only fuck each other i think that's beautiful, love is love ❤️ your relationship is just as valid as a poly one even if it upsets and frightens me, i'm glad you're somehow able to feel loved like that ❤️
