Final Project
Title: "D-R-E-A-M"
I began with the idea of a collage, I really like the cluttered look of this style. I used Pablo Picasso and Vic Muniz as my muse to create my own spin off of collage. I used a simple magazine and found florals, sentences, letters, colors and more to come together into one work. If you take a deep look into the work you will notice each corner has different flowers giving light to nature. And looking even further, the middle spells the word "dream". I spelled the word dream because I really like the idea of imagination in dreams.

Virtual Sketchbook 4
After viewing "Pollack" and the PBS video, it is certain that Jackson Pollack was not creating art lacking purpose. Pollack had many muses throughout his art career. He began with a very structured painting style but progressed into this abstract unique way of painting. According to PBS, Pollack learned a lot about native painting as well as many other cultural elements to art. This inspired his initial start to drip painting. I believe that he did not accidentally create these works, I believe he did it to make people question the depth of the theme behind it. This could have been a way to let out emotion or even be able to define his emotion with something creative. It could be as simple as the colors in nature or as deep as things like feelings or awareness. Pollack most definitely had purpose behind his art.
Create your own abstract art:
To inspire my "painting", I actually used makeup to create this abstract piece. I attempted to use a drip effect with certain parts and used brushes and other beauty tools to create this work. I also crumbled the paper beforehand to give it more dimension. I think the layers and shadows could be very defined within Pollack's works so I wanted to attempt my own abstract style.

Virtual Sketchbook 3: A Visit to The Ringling Museum
On Thursday, March 9th I visited the Ringing Museum to experience and digest different art forms. I saw sculptures, ancient pottery, and famous paintings but what stuck with me the most was a piece of art from the Rococo period. Portrait of Madame de Bourbon-Conti as Venus painted by Noël-Nicolas Coypel stood out to me with its beautiful coloration and detail. The painting is not huge; however, it creates large emotion. At first glance it is clear that the artist has brilliant technique to his painting style. All the colors, lines, and shapes seem to coordinate and flow well together. There is huge emphasis on the woman, seen through where the light is as well as on her clothing. The woman, however, is looking off to the side so while us as the viewers eyes are on her, her eyes are not on us. There is quite a bit of balance presented within this painting as well, all of the color fits together as well as the flow from the upfront perspective to looking through to the forest behind her. The theme or subject of the painting seems to be some kind of elegancy and curiosity. She is being dressed by angelic figures however, she is looking off to the distance. The overall feel of the painting is calm and serene. I believe that this feeling is evoked by the light pastel colors used and the way the strokes of the paint are smooth. The media for this piece is oil on canvas so it appears smooth is most areas while containing texture in proper places.
Coypel is known for his familiar connections as well as his portrayal of women within paintings. After some research it was found that within this painting “madame is portrayed as a playful goddess, perhaps Venus” (Ringling Docents). He used the comparison of this curious woman to the curiosity and playful motive of the goddess Venus. Painted in 1731 by this French artist, this work is a part of the Rococo period. Based on prior knowledge of Rococo art, this painting fits right in through the use of playfulness and pastel coloration. The use of romance and humor was large within art of this period, so this painting does a good job at depicting that. Thus, this painting can say a lot about the artist. This artist had a trend of painting women and portraying them in different demeanors. Within his time period, women were expected to promote elegance and charm. This woman seems to naturally have these characteristics but is spending her time in a trance with angelic figures in the forest. The message comes across clear after some research and Coypel does a good job at comparing elements in this work.

Virtual Sketchbook 2
1: Principles of Design
Unity- This principle is represented through a "unified" design such as a singular color or shape throughout.
Ex. This work by Wayne Thiebaud is a great example of unity
Balance- This principle is represented through 2 or more things that oppose each other to create equality (symmetrical or asymmetrical)
Ex. This work by Ellen Beauregard utilizes the principle of balance
Emphasis- This principle is represented through drawing more attention to certain key points within the art
Ex. This example of art by Juli Clarke uses the principle of emphasis through color
Directional Forces- This principle is represented with lines, whether imaginary or real lines, it catches the eyes of the viewers to understand and draw together the meaning behind the piece
Ex. This painting by Erin Hanson is a great example of directional forces, leading the eye to the trees
Repetition- This principle is represented by repeating different elements or patterns within the art to create different stories or draw together the whole idea of the work
Ex. Andy Warhol is a good example of the use of repetition within a work
Scale- This principle is represented through the proportional elements of the parts of the work
Ex. Claes Oldenburg plays with the idea of scale within his work
2: Fig. 4.3, Sarah Sze, Triple Point (Gleaner)
Ingredients: Variety within color and shape, asymmetrical balance through elements and color, emphasis towards the clutter of the work, some actual lines but mostly implied, repetition within shape and color.
3: Within my life I have encountered many experiences with color. I would say my most personal experiences with color occur when looking at the sky. Although this is something anyone can experience, it never fails to impress me or amaze me based on the fact that it is completely natural. During a sunset, for example, the colors will go from a violet pigment or hue and blend right into a red orange and yellow orange hue. The colors of the sky tend to be extremely saturated and bright. These changes in value and hue are solely based on the light and how it comes through the clouds, reflects, etc. If I were to choose a color scheme for myself it would be an analogous color scheme, I really like certain colors such as blue and green together or orange and pink.
4: Cartoon Drawing
For this section I decided to draw a cartoon depicting the 3 stages throughout a day, sunrise, daylight, and sunset. Within each panel I presented different perspectives of the hill and mountains using a different focal point in each picture.

LAYOUT- Logos:
1. Starbucks
2. Nike
3. Celsius
4. Apple
5. Tory Burch
I know these logos through the distinct spin put on a simple design to give them a specific purpose or brand they represent. Through everyday things like clothes, shoes, and restaurants, these logos have stood out to me in the brands they represent and how they resonate with me. The value of a logo is usually based on the brands outreach or message, such as Celsius, the logo is a C with a degrees sign depicting the celsius temperature. This could be further valued to the idea of the drink as an energy drink, getting temperature up or something along those lines. Another way to understand value is how well the logo is remembered by the individual.

Virtual Sketchbook 1
Hi! My name is Juna and an interesting fact about myself is that I enjoy doing nails and spend a large portion of my time learning and practicing new designs.
Pablo Picasso 1937 Guernica. Oil on canvas; 11’ 5 ½” x 25” 5 ¼”
This painting is now seen and used as an anti-war symbol
When originally painted, this work was in color, however, it is now depicted in a ‘greyscale’ color scheme
Picasso crafted this painting after the Guernica bombing caused by Hitler’s German forces supporting Franco
The reason for depicting this horrific event was to capture the ‘pain and suffering’ that is caused by war
Picasso is from Spain so this event impacted him greatly and brought out the emotions to paint
When I first glanced at this work of art, I thought it was taking on a more abstract art theme. With my little knowledge on Picasso, I was tempted to see this art as abstract or broader in message/emotion. However, after I researched it is actually spreading a message about the effects of warfare, more specifically, modern warfare. After the events of the bombing of Guernica, Picasso created this work of art. It is very clear to me now the people in the painting and how it almost looks shattered as if he is using this as a concept for how society is turning on each other. Overall, my original thought about this piece changed drastically after some research and a closer look at the work of art.
2.
Above is an important piece of art that hangs in the kitchen, conveniently placed in the center of my house. This piece of art is something I look at every day as soon as I come out of my room, it has hung there for as long as I can remember which is what makes it special to me. The media used to create this work was a camera, my father is a photographer and graphic designer so he has an eye for making ordinary things beautiful. He took the image, printed it, and created a glossy effect using an epoxy style lamination. I would say that this art serves the purpose of catching the eye of anyone new who enters my home, it's a very "non-traditional" work of art that is brand new to many people. I believe that this work is beautiful because it captures such a simple bland image yet still manages to catch everyones eye.
3. In an attempt to explain the world I see I will mention a few details about myself. I am a 17 year old female who comes from a caucasian background. I have been able to gain a lot of different customs from my step parents, one being Italian and the other being Venezuelan. For fun, I like to stay social, I spend time with family and friends, as well as what I like to call my side job of doing nails. I am a member of National Honor Society which is school based. Outside of as school setting, I work as a gymnastics coach. I have many life experiences that make me unique, I grew up in a household where we constantly were taught to try new things, so I now hold knowledge and perspective on many activities that others my age might not.
4. Below is my self-portrait, I used the collage method to bring together all things natural such as food, light, earth. All these things represent me and what I see in the world.
