A blog about triode amplification, recording, and finding music. I DIY my own gear in pursuit of Japanese "real sound" concept. All photos my own unless otherwise attributed.

One of my favorite piano recordings. It was mastered at the now defunct Europadisk, who had one of the rare DMM lathes, which cut a metal master. Very few recordings are made with them, and the only lathe left was purchased by The Church of Scientology to cut lectures from L Ron Hubbard in the case of an apocalypse. True story.

Roland R-8 schematic with my replacement components marked. The Burr Brown PCM Dacs ran in mono with a high frequency duplexing scheme to create stereo (explained well in the Quadraverb service manual), so replacing a single resistor (R9) to typically silver Audio Note is one of the best opportunities for sonic improvement.
