marissa blinked, taken back by their blunt words, unsure of how to respond to such a straightforward question. “ i – i mean, can you at least by me a drink first? ” mars joked as confused laughter danced through the air.

Clove laughed. “Sure! What’s your favorite drink?” They asked semi-innocently, smiling back at the positive response. It sure wasn’t a no, so they were already doing better than usual.

“ funny — i’m usually the one asking that exact question, ” gaia replied, without looking up from the screen of her laptop. her paper was due in less than an hour, and to say she was behind was a vast understatement. “ i do have a question for you though: why are you walking up to strangers at at a bubble tea place, of all places, when you could be getting answers from the comfort of your own bed, or couch, with apps like tinder or the like? ” she added, the pads of her fingers gliding across her keyboard, in effort to make up for lost time.

“There’s no gender neutral version of tinder,” Clove snapped back cleverly, feeling semi-stupid about this plan in the first place. “And I decided to get out of the house for once-” they added snootily, “All I asked for was a yes or no, but I can see you’re more offended by my lack of style than anything.... I’ll leave you alone...” They walked off slowly, half hoping they would be called back.

“If we ever decide I will let you know.” Rocco laughed slowly as the looked back at the other person. “Oh right sorry. I’m Rocco, Rocco Taylor.” He smiled holding his hand out. “It is a pleasure to meet you!”

“I’m Clove,” they smiled, taking the hand with their own and giving it a nice hard shake. “Pleasure’s all mine, babe! Oh, and just as a heads up, I use they and them pronouns...” they trailed off, hoping the other’d be okay with it.

Remus’ cheeks flushed and he looked away. “Uh… I’m afraid there won’t be any lip action with you. I-I have a boyfriend, I’m sorry.”

Clove snapped their fingers in defeat. “Aw, darn,” he spoke with mock defeat, adding “Call if you two ever need a third, though,” half for the drama and half for earnest. They grinned widely as a sort of cute defense, hoping the other would smile as well.

“Ok, but....” Clove said, lowering sunglasses to reveal a face full of colorful makeup. “Serious question. You can answer however and I won’t be offended but I mean hey, someone ought to ask this question.” They laughed and left their sunglasses down on their nose for eye contact. “Do you want to hook up?”

“Of course. I’ll keep that in mind. I’m Remus, by the way.” He smiled before giving a nervous laugh. “Thank you. You’re not so bad yourself…”

“You’re sweet,” Clove blushed, relaxing back into their chair. “Are you jsut getting my hopes up of lip action or are you interested?” They asked bluntly, raising one eyebrow.

“I see, well I happen to have no preference for gender anyway.” Rocco answered them with a small shrug as he sipped his drink. “I think we are quite happy though, he’s one of those lady in the streets freak in the sheets boys.” Rocco smirked back at him. “Oh he’s even cuter, I don’t think I’d be willing to share this one I’m afraid.”

“Well if you ever feel like a spice in your relationship, I’d love to help,” Clove said, semi-disappointed. But I mean hey, good for the other dude. “Wait- I didn’t seem to catch your name? I’d still love to get to know you.”

“Perhaps, just a little” He admitted, laughing quietly. Remus nodded and shook their hand gently. “Pleasure to meet you, Clove. Do you have a preference in which pronouns I use for you? I know different people prefer different ones is all.” He mused with a kind smile.

“I use they and them,” Clove said, glad people understood here. “So hello, nice to meet you, you’re very nice looking.”

Remus let out a nervous laugh and felt his cheeks heat up. “Uh… Th-Thank you? I think? I’m not really sure what I was doing to qualify for that compliment though…”

“Is it cliche for me to say nothing?” they asked, propelling their hand towards the other. “Hey I’m Clove and I’m non-binary.” They blinked a few extra times in hopes the other knew what it meant before shaking hands.

task 3&4

TASK 3:

Dear mom. I know you’re dead and gone and probably deserved whatever came to you even though no one will tell me, but I still gotta say, thanks for being a mom to me. The few years we got to spend together really made me who I am today, and if it weren’t for your general neglect of the norms I really wouldn’t be able to express myself properly these days. So, since I know this is never gonna get read, I’ll just keep it short. You weren’t the best but you were still kinda my mom, and I miss you a little. So, much love, your only kid. Clove.

TASK 4: 

1. Clove’s mom died the year they left for college. No one told them how she died and wouldn’t let them attend the funeral.

2. Clove lived in Chicago for the four years they attended college, but moved to Toronto before they actually graduated. Their diploma was sent to them in the mail.

3. Clove used to go to drag shows when they were a teen, and that’s how they began to explore gender. They may be a little disappointed there aren’t any good shows near them.

4. Clove doesn’t have a preference of gender when it comes to romance and sex, though it seems they platonically love more women and sexually love more men.

5. Clove smokes so much weed because their mom never believed in chemical supplements to mental disorders.

Remus looked up from his notebook, still biting his lip a little. “Are… Are you talking to me?” He questioned before glancing around to make sure there wasn’t some confusion on his part.

“You see any other cute people distracting me here?” Clove said, raising their eyebrows and kinda hoping there weren’t very many people near them. “But yeah,” they shrugged. “You cute.”

“Why thankyou.” Rocco laughed softly as he looked back at the other male. “But I happen to have a boyfriend who is also very cute so you can’t be doing any eating I’m afraid.” He hummed with a smile. 

“Well I am neither boy nor girl,” Clove proclaimed. “But, if you and your boo thing ever wanna spice it up,” they added a wink for the drama, “Call me, I’d love to help.” After a solid once over of the other, they added, “Is your boyfriend as cute as you are? Because I might have to hunt him down too.”

She smiled apologetically. “I know, thank you,” was all that she said in response to that. Cory’s smile turned into more of a grin. “A million dollars would definitely do that. Or a vacation to Hawaii or Machu Picchu. Maybe both? If you could do that for me, I’ll be set for life.” 

Once she was apologetic, Clove smiled back at her. “Sorry, though, I can’t provide any of those things.” They laughed a little and asked, “Any attainable goals I can help with?”

“Oh, an idea? Do tell.” She replied with a grin. “Is your apartment filled with mannequins? because that’s creepy and i love it.”

“No I can’t tell you yet!” They laughed, hitting the other slightly. “It’s gotta be a surprise,” a smile plastered itself over their face, a nod violently agreeing. “It’s awesome, they just all stand there.....” Clove struck a pose. “You know, google earth, always takin’ pics.”

She let out a short laugh at their words, turning towards them. “Thank you, I really appreciate it. It means a lot.” She was being sarcastic, but she didn’t mean it in a malevolent way. 

“I was just trying to be nice,” they said, kind of hoping that the other wasn’t trying to be mean. Clove was trying to cheer her up, after all. “Is there anything I can do to make you smile? Or at least put you in a better mood?”
