Queen Anna's comic/storybook-exclusive green winter outfit is now in Frozen Free Fall! Shared to us by @virtual-winter on Discord! ❄️

This is the first time we got to see it in 3D. She looks amazing! I'm glad they're also taking inspiration from Frozen media beyond the films.

Redheads, gingers, and strawberry blondes just pull off green and black so naturally! ✨️

It's Anna's "casual" queen wear under a green winter cloak. Another outfit that is pretty much "exclusive" to the comics and storybooks so far! It's nice to see a new winter fit for Anna in her signature color. It makes you wonder why she ever wore shades of pink in the movies (though she looks amazing in those too, of course!). Those were all Oaken had in his winter department 😆

Again, I tried looking for ones in different art styles. We need more!

Vakretta - With little to offer

An in-depth study of one of Arendelle's friendly neighbouring kingdoms.

It’s finally here! And you won’t believe how much I’ve been looking forward to getting this project off my shoulders😅

What started as a simple "mini-project" in September of last year quickly grew out of proportion (why is this true for most of my projects?) and eventually turned into a 30+ page extensive deep-dive into one of the many nations of the Frozenverse: Arendelle’s neighbour, the kingdom of Vakretta.

Since it was first introduced in the short story “Across the Sea” in 2015, Vakretta has been featured in over 10 books and has a fair share of lore associated with it. With this analysis, I wanted to find every known piece of information about the kingdom and present it all in one place where it could be easily referenced. The analysis is therefore divided into sections covering all the published works where Vakretta appears, what characters are from there, what might have inspired it and a discussion about its connections with other nations in the Frozenverse. There's also a complete reference list.

All in all, it’s been an absolute pain joy to work on this project and I’ve had such great support from my fellow Archive-members! A special shout-out goes out to:

Elsa blaming herself

Had to fight tears compiling these...

Elsa blames herself for something at least once in ALL her films (even in Once Upon A Time)! 🥹

With that being said, I guess we should put that in our Frozen 3 bingo card too 😬

I hope she doesn't have to do it, of course, but I wonder what Elsa would blame herself for again in the sequels? However it'll go, we know Anna will always be there, knowing just what to say to assure her sister 💙

How the turns have tabled!

I thought it was so nice that they were recurring characters in the series. Well, it was 2015. The Frozen fever was still strong as ever! 😆

I can definitely see them "training" together; Honeymaren good-naturedly teasing Anna's skills with weaponry 'cause she's a royal, and the ever-competitive Anna proving she's a master at them!

That and... the both of them being expert tree climbers 😆

Also, Elsa jokingly scolding Honeymaren not to encourage this part of Anna as it worries her 🤭

Hope we could see them interact more in the sequels alongside our Kristoff and Ryder duo!

The Empress' New Clothes ❄️

Overthinking and overanalyzing Frozen outfits and what they mean for the characters again...

The more I think about Elsa's fashion sense, the more it makes me laugh.

Before Elsa's transformation in the climax of Let It Go, the only clothes we see her wear are... well, for lack of a better word, nothing like that. Of course, this is because those are the kinds of attire "expected" of royals. It's possible that she does get a say in what she would like to wear but just has more pressing things to worry about (concealing and don't-feel-ing) than whether or not she likes the royal outfits given to her. She did say in A Sister More Like Me written by Barbara Jean Hicks...

"It was important, as a princess, that I looked my best."

Obviously, she understands the weight of keeping up such an appearance. That's also not to say that I think Elsa hated her old clothes, but I believe if she was given complete freedom over what she gets to wear, they would be different.

Luckily, we do get that moment of freedom in Let It Go 😁

At first glance, one would think Elsa just "covered" her coronation dress with her magic, and that the gown is still under there somewhere. But we know this isn't the case as she physically alters it by removing the "turtle neck" and adding a slit on the skirt area. Not to mention, she also turns her black flats into pointed heels. R.I.P. coronation outfit!

So... okay... wow... that's the kind of outfits Elsa prefers to wear after all! She likes the slits. She likes the bardot tops. She likes the low necklines. She likes the capes. She likes the sparkles 😌 So much so that it becomes a distinct recurring style for her in the following films, and everyone knows it! In the Junior Novelization of Olaf's Frozen Adventure retold by Suzanne Francis, we even see Anna tease Elsa when she gifts her her party dress which Elsa immediately knows is for her.

"Yup. That one's yours. How'd you guess?" Anna teased.

And how could we forget Olaf (and Kristoff) also teasing her during Charades Night in Frozen II? (I'll be assuming they meant Elsa's fashion or body language, and not the literal "Here I stand!" scene as they weren't there when that happened. Elsa "retelling" the Frohana that musical number frame by frame seems more unlikely 😆)

I'm the last person to ask about historical accuracy, but I don't believe slits were commonplace during her era, especially not for royalty. But I have read that it was normal for queens to be trendsetters. So, I am very curious where Queen Elsa took inspiration from to give herself that look 🤭 I wonder if she's always been curious about other styles since she was a teen. I don't cherish the idea that she was depressed every second of her life hidden away; there must be some moments when she just engages in hobbies she likes. I headcanon that she would draw herself (or random characters) in the outfits she preferred as an outlet, as she was probably too shy to request for something similar. It's so wholesome to me because I knew I was exactly like that when I was little—imagining myself in "big girl" clothes that I couldn't be caught dead asking for. So, yes, I might be projecting quite a bit 😅

Other than dissecting the symbolism tied to it, imagining Elsa as a character who just really really likes those kinds of outfits is a lot of fun for me. I noticed Elsa never really address the clothes she wears, she just lets other people react to them, and thanks them for their compliments. But she doesn't need to say anything to let us know that, as the Gen Z slang for it goes... 🎀 she's just a girl 🎀

Which makes this scene even funnier to me:

This very brief moment from the 2015 novel A Frozen Heart written by Elizabeth Rudnick that I don't see too many people talk about...

"I think my toes are permanently crushed from the Duke’s so-called dance moves." She looked up at him.

"What? You didn’t enjoy that?" Hans replied, his tone teasing. "I figured that was the highlight of your night."

Anna giggled. "Are you kidding me? I have enough trouble dancing as it is. I don’t need help looking less graceful." She paused, as if weighing her next words. Then, in a rush, she said,

"You make me look graceful."

Her honesty surprised Hans, and he found himself saying the next words before he could stop himself.

"You make me look happy."

Instantly, he wished he could take it back.

Unredeemable monster. Greatest mistake of Anna's life. Wouldn't even kiss her. Yes, yes, I know. But I like to think Hans, in this specific blink-and-you-miss-it moment that lasted 10 seconds, had his guard lowered.

I was today years old when I found out Anna's dress in Frozen Fever has two little bees! 🐝

Which means the yellow swirls above the sunflowers are probably the bees' flight patterns, jumping from one flower to another until they finally reached each other! So cute 🤭

Elsa's Snowflake in Anna's Eyes ❄️

According to The Art of Frozen, Elsa has a "signature snowflake shape."

"If you saw it anywhere in the movie, you'd know it wasn't nature, it was her." — Dan Lund, effects artist.

So, when they pointed out the detail that Elsa's snowflake appears in Anna's eyes as she turns into solid ice, it was like a cruel reminder for Elsa that what she had done to Anna wasn't nature's fault... it was hers.

Though her pupils no longer constrict in the movie, Elsa's snowflakes are still seen all around Anna's eyes!

Really hoping we could see more of them in future installments. The comic A Surprising Reunion is still one of my favorites! Will always have a soft spot for this loyal guard and his iconic reactions to Olaf's retelling of Frozen 😆 From the podcast Forces of Nature, we know he was quite the storyteller himself!
