I like to think, that Mahariel’s mother was an dalish apostate. She was cast out by her clan after she had displayed magical ability. She had to join the muggers to survive into the wilderness. She met the Keeper of the Sabrae after she had decided to leave the group and past life behind.

The Dalish Messaging System.

The Dalish use small to medium sized birds of prey to send messages to distant clans. These birds include hawks, falcons, and owls. Each clan will have a colored harness and symbol specific to that clan. (Sabrae being lets say purple, plum to be exact and Lavellan being brick red. Zathrain’s clan has silver.) They use these birds communicate with one another when simply passing a note or talking is not possible. Owls are used at night, usually for secretive messages. Birds of prey are used do to their swiftness, and being predators there is usually no worry of something eating said messenger bird. Now if the bird is looking for an individual/ a place to land (circling and calling out above the camp or a traveling clan), say Jhaan and is having trouble locating him, all Jhaan needs to is whistle in the corresponding birds sounds. Such as a whistle to mimic a hawks shriek, or say it’s chirping, small calls, etc. or hums and smaller sounds to mimic the sounds of the owl that’s carrying the message, be it the deep “whoo whoo” of the Greater Horned Owl, or the haunting whistle of a Eastern Screech Owl. Once the message has been delivered the receiving party usually feeds the bird and either replies to the message right away or sends the bird on it’s way after giving it food, water and should it be needed shelter for the night/day.

Tabris, who screamed at his father weeks before the wedding took place, who feared getting married because he didn’t know what he wanted. He still doesn’t know.

Tabris, who after he’s done fuming, gets drunk with his buddies. They’ve been ‘children’ much longer then he has, they egg him on and urge him to reconsider. Tabris ducks underneath the wooden fence separating the run down alienage from the outside world. He goes for a walk to cool his head, then returns to his father and apologizes. His anger wrestled and subdued not because it’s genuine, but because Cyrion is all he has left, and obligation far outweighs any personal feelings he has about this. He’ll play his part and fallow through with the wedding for the sake of family and stability.

Tabris, who awakens to find his betrothed is here early, lies to his cousin, his father, and even himself. Thinking all the while that maybe getting married won’t be so bad. He only tells Gethon and his wife the truth, there momentary, fleeting. The lid keeping his rage from boiling over slides off when he agrees to let Nessa stay with his family. “She’s not too bad looking, think of the possibilities.” His father fed him the same line weeks ago when they were fighting over his bride. He’s not doing this out of kindness, he’s doing it out of spite. Cyrion looks disappointed, his voice gets low, quiet, and Tabris feels fear pluck at his heart strings, “I thought we raised you better then that.”

There’s a fic on fanfiction(.)net that I’ve kept tabs on for years to see if it’s been updated or not. While I’m no longer even in the fandom it’s written for, it just has one of the greatest storylines I’ve ever read. Last time it was updated was 2011.

The other day, I decided to reread the entire thing and leave a very in-depth review of what I thought of each chapter. I also mentioned how I started reading it when I was 13 and am now 21, but always came back to see if it was ever finished because I loved it so dearly.

Today, said author sent me a private message saying that her analytics showed that the story was still getting views even after all these years, but no one ever bothered to leave reviews other than “update soon!!!”, so she never felt motivated enough to finish it. She said that me reviewing every single chapter with lengthy paragraphs made her cry and meant the world to her. She also mentioned that she felt encouraged to write the two remaining chapters needed to complete the story and that she would send me a message the night before she updates the fic.

I’m literally sobbing. I’m so excited :’)
