Quick Life Update: Working at Joann's again has been awesome! I can't even begin to express how great it is to be around a creative driven environment again!
I have a few projects simmering on the stove that I wanna get the ball rolling for in 2021. Just some small side hustle stuff to help me stay creative and motivated and not fall in a rut again.
stay tuned for more to come! šš

So about 10 literal years ago I started this scarf as a gift for my ex. He dumped me when I was about 3/4 of the way through. I kept it in a box for a long time. I moved it to four different houses
Last night I finished it. This morning I am wearing it. My husband is sleeping in. My dog spent two days trying to steal the yarn. Life moves on.

Just wanna share my Aloy cosplay with you.
This suit took me about 300 hours of work: printing on fabric, 3D modeling, processing of printed parts, embossing on genuine leather, styling a wig, painting craft. I really enjoyed creating this costume. I hope you enjoy our work!
Fandom: HORIZON ZERO DAWN
Character: Aloy
Set: Carja blazon heavy, Shadow Sharpshot bow

Foam to Leather (Tutorial)
Things youāll need:
Brown craft foam
Aluminum foil
Clothes iron
Ironing board
Black paint
Brown paint (lighter than your foam)
Paint brush
Paper towel
Grab some aluminum foil and crumble it into a ball. Not too tight of a ball though! The next step is almost impossible if you do.Ā
Next, un-crumple the ball. Flatten it out into one layer. Itās fine if there are a few holes.
Place it on top of your foam.
Take your iron and firmly press it on the foam and aluminum. My iron was set to 3 (polyester) but the correct temperature may be different for other irons. Just remember not to use steam! Before doing this on a large piece, be sure to experiment and figure out what the best temperature and what the best pressure is. On larger pieces, youāll have to move the aluminum around a lot. Itās not a quick process.
Now youāve got this crinkly affect on the foam. Next is painting!
Grab youāre brush, black paint, and a dish with some water. The idea is to dilute the black paint enough so that when you apply it the paint will seep into the divets the aluminum created.Ā
Once the watery paint is applied, wipe it off with a paper towel. Continue to do this for your whole piece of foam.
Now hereās an optional step (of which I havenāt done myself but Iāve known others who have):
Grab the light brown paint and, without diluting it, paint it on. Itās best to use a coarse brush in this case and to try to keep it out of the divets. Wipe some of the paint off.Ā
Remember, imperfections are always good! Uneven paint isnāt necessarily bad so just experiment with it.Ā
Hereās an example of a bracer I did with this method. The first two pictures are an example of the foam I began with and the rest show the end result. I hope this helps you guys out!
