Dignity of risk is such an important concept but also the amount of risk has to be very individualized to the person.

I'm allowed to control my own finances even though I'm "not all there" and I'm a team with my husband. I'm allowed the dignity of risk to spend all my money that should have gone to my mortgage on things like ice cream and video games because I can understand what a budget is and how to use one. If I were to show I couldn't, by continuously missing house payments, then we'd reevaluate and see if i need someone to help make sure my bills are paid.

Theres a lot of people who can't. Their dignity of risk might be different, for them a healthy risk might be dating and getting their heart broken or staying up too late on a weeknight and being tired and grumpy the next day. For others it might be risking getting upset after an argument. A physical disability example could look like a medically fragile person ride an adaptive bike or living on their own with proper supports.

Being able to take risks and deal with the consequences is an important part of life.
