Character Reveal: Gozo

The cool cat that’s high tech…

Gozo is a panther and member of the Criterion Crew, representing the pollutant Ground Level Ozone.

Gozo is fairly social and often works with the Raggoons and other Criterion members when needed. A self-proclaimed genius; he comes off as arrogant and pompous, but also kinda lazy when “really hard work” is involved. He also really hates being outwitted.

In battle, Gozo utilizes certain tools, and is rarely seen without the company of other pollutants. He can power himself and his tools using sunlight, and a combination of other gasses emitted by his allies, then combining them to create his own gas.

One of Gozo’s guilty pleasures is lounging about and watching old movies collected by the raggoons. His biggest pet-peeve is starting a show or movie series and finding out he doesn’t have all the episodes or sequels. He also has a lot of old tech that he should really look into upgrading…

You may have noticed a couple things have changed!  The reason is for clarity and to make animation a bit easier. For instance: Rawhide’s glove tassels were removed, and BW’s pigtails were changed to a ponytail, this is for better character mobility and to create clearer silhouettes with the posing.  Mayor Rhubarb’s mustache was shaved off as well, since it was hard to keep consistent and made his mouth a bit too busy looking.  Part of good character design is making everything clear and simple. You want to add all the bells and whistles that make your character stand out but sometimes its too much and doesn’t really add anything.  A simple design that stands out is usually what we strive for!  Since our project is still growing and evolving we have the the luxury to change a few things like this for the pilot.  Stay tuned later this month for our OFFICIAL TRAILER RELEASE!

Some neat lore from the Trollhunters novel “The Adventure Begins”

The Amulet knows when its Trollhunter is about to die, and can let their bearer know this ahead of time. When it stops ticking, the Trollhunter knows it’s the end for them

Bular ate at least five people by the time episode two ended

Trolls have an excellent sense of smell, enough so that a good warrior knows to stay downwind in order to stay hidden from other trolls, and enough so that Bular could smell human on Kanjigar’s remains after Jim had retrieved the amulet.

Kanjigar was close friends with Blinky and Aaaarrrgghh, and they went on numerous adventures together. It’s implied they were friends long before he became Trollhunter, too.

Kanjigar didn’t outright avoid and ignore Draal, in fact, he actively trained him to his last days. The only place he was absent was in the emotional and parental department.

Kanjigar’s last thoughts before he died were him begging Merlin not to choose Draal as his successor. Because he knew that the amulet was a burden and didn’t want his son to suffer the same hardships he did, to be free to make his own choices.

The mantle of Trollhunter is an honor, sure, but most trolls see it as a terrible burden as well. Giant, monstrous, powerful trolls have cowered and had mental breakdowns after being chosen in the past.

Bular made his home in an abandoned Vespa warehouse, where he made a makeshift throne for himself and also painted a primitive mural of him ruling the surface. He used human blood for paint.

(Interesting note about the above is he depicts humans bowing to him, which is a bit different from his father’s ideals of just eating all the humans.)
