[TESTING] Sims 3 UI Tweaks

I would be grateful for any feedback on my new mod, UITweaks. For anyone using my FocusOnSimNotOnLot and Recover Notification Mod, they are now merged into it.

List of tweaks

1. Lunar tooltip now use the same background as Season tooltip.

2. When a pet or toddler is selected, the Career and Opportunities tabs are hidden.

3. Queued interactions can be moved up one position with a right-click, allowing the entire queue to be reorganized.

4. Use the RecoverNotification command to re-show previously hidden notification.

5. Right-click a Sim’s icon in the Relationship tab to focus on them, even if they are not visiting.

6. Season tooltip now display the current weather.

7. The command console has been overhauled. Insert topmost cheat by using the TAB key.

8. When a stray or wild horse is leaving the current lot and the tooltip would normally display 'Going Home,' the tooltip now says 'Going to its place.'

Home Furnishing

I've been diving into furnishing homes lately, now that I finally have all my cc back in my game! However, I decluttered so much that I didn't have much in the way of curtains, and the ones I did love usually clipped, or didn't fit the variety of windows I like to use. So, I started making some modular curtains!

The way these are set up you can have a variety of options on how far you want your curtains open. Have an introvert or vampire? Put a couple of full curtains across all your windows. Have a 3 tile window? Throw the topper piece in between and stretch them out to cover it, or have a wall of windows! Shove open the curtains to one side, or anywhere in between.

There are three curtains to play with, plus the topper piece that can go anywhere in between them - or off to itself, if you really want to.

Just admiring the pretty woodwork for a second... and....

Cherry Blossom Tree DR by vesko_sims3

"The reason I created this default replacement mod is that the original cherry blossom tree doesn't look like real one due to its oversaturated and dark flowers. As a result, it could be mistaken for a peach tree, which has dark pink flowers as this one. So I did some altering by desaturating and lightening the tree trunk and the petals to make it as realistic as possible.

The photos for this creation were taken in Sunset Valley with an additional shadow/lightning mod. The tree may look a bit off when you install the mod due to differences in the color settings you’ve applied or the type of color profiles on your PC monitor has. For example, when you use an LCD monitor like I do, the colors may appear less vibrant and have lower contrast compared to OLED displays.

ようやくCAWでの編集が完了したので、建物を配置しました。

Now that the editing in CAW is finally complete, I can place the buildings.

Noir and Dark Simsの「Tokyo Town」のCCを使用させて頂きました。

I used the CC of "Tokyo Town" by Noir and Dark Sims.

古い建物が多く残る田舎町です。

It is a rural town with many old buildings remaining.

郵便ポストもありましたが、1960年代後半の日本なので今回は使用しませんでした。

There was also a post box, but since this was Japan in the late 1960s, we didn't use it this time.

追加した土地です。日本によくある河川敷のグラウンドです。

This is the newly added land. It is a riverbed ground, which is common in Japan.

「日暮谷町」は観光を主な産業としています。

Tourism is the main industry in Higuredani Town.

今回、整地したので新しく建てました。海水浴場です。

This time, the land was leveled and the topography changed, so a new bathing beach was built.

建物が古いので、未舗装の道路に変更して1940年代でもいいかもしれません。

The building is old, so maybe we could change it to an unpaved road and make it 1940s.

空の町をシェアしたいのでFrankensonnetさんに連絡したのですが、返事がないです。(Tumblrを止めたのかもしれません。)

I contacted Frankensonnet to share the empty town, but I haven't heard back. (Maybe she quit Tumblr.)

Simynthos - (almost) cc-free

With all testing done I am happy to share with you the (almost) cc-free version of Simynthos today! I was actually surprised by how quickly it could be transformed, and I have to say I'm very happy with how it turned out!

For this version I removed all decorative cc. The only cc you now need for full functionality are the rabbit hole rugs. The lots are so small, there wouldn't have been nearly enough room for the in game rabbit holes. The rabbit hole rugs can be downloaded here.

I still recommend using the performance mods from the original post here, just to make things a little more smooth and enjoyable during gameplay. But they are not strictly necessary. You could also go completely vanilla (more on that below).

There are a couple of things to note:

Some of the double beds are placed against a wall and therefore only one sim can sleep in them now. You can replace them with the one sided beds for two sims, the ones I used in the original version, if you like. The mattresses by sketchbook pixels can be found here, and some nice custom bed frames from @aroundthesims can be found here.

I did make use of @omedapixel's S3DT (Sims 3 Decorator Tool) in two or three places, just to place decorative items on surfaces where they cannot be placed in a vanilla game. You do NOT need the mod for these items to stay in place, as long as you don't move them when redecorating. Then they may slip back into normal mode and you will only be able to place them back with the mod. But it's only in a couple of places, so even if that happens, it will not have a significant impact on your game.

Replacing some of the cc did result in some interactive items not being usable at first, but I hope I caught all of those cases during the (quite extensively 😉) play-testing. So now all interactive items should be usable. If you find any place where an item can't be reached by the sims, please notify me and I will update the world.

How does it run?

I have tested this version of Simynthos in two scenarios: With the routing optimization mods I recommended for the original version (that's the save all the screenshots are from 😉), but also in a completely vanilla game, playing just a small family with one child, and it actually ran pretty well on my gaming laptop, even without any routing improvement mods (my game is optimized though)! If you're going completely vanilla, it may get a bit annoying in some places though, with sims not being able to pass each other, and toddlers not being able to be put down on the ground due to lack of space. But if you do not want to use any mods at all, it would probably still be playable with a small household that doesn't host huge parties 😉

I did not change the island itself or the terrain painting outside the lots (except for some places where I placed the walkways/paths). All credit for that goes to them! barn pilaster wall set.

I think anyone who's familiar with my builds probably knows that I'm a little bit obsessed with the barn pilaster walls that come with the game. I've edited them a couple of times now, but I was craving some variation with them so I repainted them (again) and added some new ones to spice things up a bit.

I've added a base to both the regular and header walls, and I've also made a version that has 2 thinner trims on both sides of it because I could not tell you how many times I've been needing that in my builds. the original walls have also been repainted and are shared here just for the sake of consistency and because I'm pretty sure they go a little bit funky sometimes by default.

this is a set of 16 different wallpapers that can be found under paneling. they can be downloaded individually or as a merged set at the link below.

The Sims 3 Material Painter

Been working on a tool that easily creates The Sims 3 material maps based only on a few texture layers, most of it derived from height data. This was done long time ago, but very sloppily, and it was not at all approachable. Discovering THIS free blender add-on that lets you plaint layers in it, made me return to this project and finalize it for release.

The tool can export: - Multiplier, RGB+A - Normal Map, RGB+A - CAST Map, RGB+A - Specular Map - Overlay, RGB+A

~~Get it HERE, and please, make sure to get THIS blender plugin, it's NEEDED for this to work. Blender 4.2+ is also needed for these to work together.~~ I will make a tutorial and edit this post eventually, on how to use this efficiently.

EA update good news

Because i saw notes that it is harmless and the play button was blocked, i updated the game ( though my processor is 9th gen but again, blocked play button, and I did not know the "go in offline mode" trick). I was suspicious though, but what can a girl do...

Then i read messages it might break core mods. I have several, so yikes!

But no worries

Other than the simler90' slander, I trust them.

The seven mods igazor mentions are the only ones you need to be worried about, but even if you get a mismatch error message, it is safe to ignore and play the game. Nothing going on.

Any problems are more likely to come from other conflicts or outdated mods.

It is of course still a new development, but for now all seems well.

Loooong Saving after using Regul Save Cleaner? Try Kuree's Save Cleaner 1.1

For any fellow Sims 3 oldheads, you may remember that the known save cleaner before Regul's tool was by Kuree.

While Regul's tool is effective and easy to use, I personally find it makes my first save after cleaning take aaaaages to the point where sometimes I just give up and have to force close the game. I've heard others have this issue so I thought I would re-remind everyone of this other tool, which I find to be almost as effective at cleaning as Regul's and not have the super long save issue.

It is called Kuree's Save Cleaner 1.1 and I have made a tutorial for you after the cut!

Part One - Downloading

What you'll find by Googling it is the link here to version 2.2 . I advise against this one. Not only did it stop working for me when the game updated to Patch 1.69 all those years ago, but others have reported issues too with it cleaning too much, such as paintings. I have no idea if it works with Macs and I have no idea if Steam users on 1.67 can use 2.2 since I don't use it.

Instead, I use version 1.1, which has been re-uploaded here by the queen of preserving sims content, Sweetdevil.

Part Two - Using It

As I mentioned, Regul's is very user friendly. This one is less so.

Unzip/unrar the Save Cleaner 1.1 file you downloaded from one of Sweetdevil's links.

Back up your save! Copy your save folder. It will be whatever you called it and located in My Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > Saves > Your Save Folder Name. Paste it somewhere safe.

Open Save Cleaner 1.1 folder, then double click Save_Clean.exe and press "Choose Save"

Navigate in Windows Explorer to My Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > Saves and choose the save you want to clean

It will only let you choose a file that has your "world name.nhd" so choose that one.

Then press "Start Cleaning", it will remind you again to do a backup, press yes to continue and then it will do its thing.

Done! You can check the save folder again if you want to see how much it cleaned since it won't give you the satisfying "this much cleaned!" like Regul's does but I find it more satisfying when my subsequent save actually finishes, personally.

Part Three - Cleaning Comparison

Here are the comparisons of how much each save cleaner cleans up the same save file:

As you can see, Regul does clean a bit more. But the substanial amount of cleaning is performed by both programmes, and I just find Kuree's to not cause the very long saves that Regul's does. Your mileage may vary, as always.

Whichever Save Cleaner you choose, it's a great practice to use one periodically. I typically use it when I notice my save games getting above 60mb but that's just me. It can really help your game load faster and remove some of the junk.
