Do you guys think the Slushie Slinger waitress is an employee, or is she the owner/operator of the slushie business? This makes a big difference in my headcanon.

See I always assumed she was an employee too, and I was like “Damn, why don’t they hire another server or at least a busser?” But then last night she just started to remind me of some women I know who run food businesses. And I was like, what if she’s the only one you see because it’s her business, and that’s how she wants it? Like she sells a ton of slushies during the AC and doesn’t want to hire employees because that money has to last her family through the rest of the year. And she just works her ass off because that’s the only way she’s ever approached anything, is by working hard and not complaining.

She’s got her son in the back washing dishes. During the school year she does the dishes herself because his education is the most important thing to her, but since it’s summer she lets him help. He’s learning to help fix the slushie machines when they break down, too, but she mostly does all her own maintenance.

And since it’s her business and her slushies, you get what’s on offer. “Can I get half pink and half green?” “No.” You take what you get and you accept it because her slushies are miles better than the other stands.

I dunno. I just sort of like it better that way. Smash the patriarchy. Slushie Slinger waitress is her own boss, and this is her favorite time of year, getting up at 4:30 am and working till midnight to fill her coffers to tide her over for the lean times.
