GDPR and Online Commissions
Hey gang, I’m back to talk about a new law coming in in the EU and how it will effect both online artist and commissioners.
It’s called the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and it effects everyone in the European Union. It comes into effect from the 25th May 2018.
GDPR is like a newer, stricter version of data protection. You can read all about it in detail over here. But I’d wager a lot of you don’t have the time or the inclination to read vast amounts of details regarding this so let me lay down some general info and tell you how this effects you.
Tumblr media
In a nutshell, GDPR is a new set of rules on how data is stored and used in the EU, especially on a business front. If you’re an artist taking commissions, you have to be VERY explicit in the how the personal data you are collecting of your customers is stored and handled. Personal data can be anything from emails, names, addresses (if you ship out physical products) to photographs of people (imagine if someone send some photos as reference images, as an example).
For most of us, we’re not selling on huge amounts of data to advertising companies for an extra buck, but you now have to be EXTREMELY CLEAR about this.
So here’s what I suggest you do.
Tumblr media
Firstly,
You cannot store info of someone under 16 without parental permission from the 25th May holy shit guys.
And this age fluctuates from country to country, please see a full list here:
https://www.betterinternetforkids.eu/web/portal/practice/awareness/detail?articleId=3017751
What does this mean?
If someone approaches you for a commission and you are in the EU then you need to ascertain their age which means they gonna need to show you some ID. A scan of a passport or a driving license is probably going to be your best bet and people aren’t going to like this but it’s now the law and do you want to be slapped with fines and jail time?
Any information to be stored on needs to be explicitly stated in regards to its use - if you don’t have a TOS maybe now is the time to write one.
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say you’re probably not selling your customer’s details on but just a little note to say that you will probably be doing the following:
Collecting emails for sending invoices and commission files to, and you may be storing on email/paypal accounts. Make it clear that your customers’ details will not be sent to third parties or added to mailing lists.
This should pretty much cover you on the basics. Again, you’ll need to be transparent and up front about any personal data you’re collecting. Emails. Names. Ages. Addresses. Religious deets. Anything like that. Please be 100% crystal clear with your clients as to how you’re using it and how you’re storing it. Honestly writing a TOS and asking your clients to read it is a great way to avoid you throwing down mountains of text every time you get a commission.

ao3feed-thorki replied to your photoset “IF YOU DIDNT MAKE IT, YOU DON’T OWN IT Don’t be a jerk. Reblog, don’t...”
So Googling Loki images and posting fanart because they are pretty is a no-no? I may have committed this sin a few...thousand times.
Yeah, that’s basically the idea of what not to do.
I’m going to try to break it down, without sounding like a total bitch about it, but you know, it is a source of frustration for us since we deal with things like this on a daily basis.
See, the idea is that when you find an art you like, you have a protocoll you follow. It’s unspoken, because it’s built on respect towards the fanwork’s creator, and one would think that it shouldn’t have to be explained, but sadly it does.
What to do when you find art and fall in love with it
1. You locate the original artist. Mostly their artist name is on the art itself, so that’s normally not a hard thing to track down. If you’re lucky, you’re already viewing the original artist’s post. If there’s no name available, a reverse Google image search is always a good bet in order to find the original post/artist.
2. Next you can do two things.
2.a. Once you find the original post, if you really feel like a repost is the only way you want to promote their art, ask the artist if they’d be okay with you reposting their art to your blog/page/social media account, with credit and link to their original post. Wait for a reply. If they say yes, go for it. If they say no, it’s a no, move on to step 2.b. If you don’t get a reply, it’s still to be regarded as a no. Again, move on to 2.b
2.b. Reblog the original artist’s post to your blog, using the “reblog” button (the two looping arrows at the bottom of every tumblr post on your dashboard, next to the heart, aka “like” button.) This is the way most artists prefer you to promote their art, and I will explain why.
Why you should Reblog, not Repost
A reblog is basically you passing on the original post from the artist’s tumblr page to your followers. The artist will receive credit and notes for their work, as well as recognition, and easy access for fans who wish to see more of their work, and/or follow their blog.
By reposting, you take this away. The artist will no longer receive notes or updates, because these will all be added to your post, not theirs. Even if you tag them in it, or link to their blog, they will still not get any real credit or feedback for their work. What takes you 30 seconds to repost, with or without link, took them maybe +50 hours to make. And now that hard work, all those hours of looking up references, tweaking colors, shading, erasing, redrawing, swearing, and maybe even somtimes crying, because HOW DO FINGERS EVEN FUCKING WORK, all of that is being overlooked. Simply because some can’t be bothered to even look up the name that’s written on the art itself, and ask permission. (Again, that’s step 1, always.)
It all boils down to mutual respect.
If you make something, pour your soul into something, and then go to show it to your mutuals because you’re proud of that work, and someone yanks it our of your hand and goes, “yeah this is mine now,” and also ends up getting all the credit, wouldn’t that hurt? Wouldn’t that make you feel like all that work was for nothing? Don’t you think it would make you feel uninspired to make more of that stuff in the future?
Probably, huh?
We, as artist, realize that not everyone reposts art and fanwork with the intent of taking credit. Most people just don’t think further. Maybe because they’re not artists themselves, or because they don’t have friends who are artists who can explain why or how this works. They come into fandom and see other people do it and assumes that it’s okay, and that is why we together must make an effort to change it.
If you see art blogs with NO reblogs, only resposts (aka. no source on their posts other than their own blog) don’t reblog from them. Make the effort, start at Step 1 and reblog the art properly, like the artist intended.
Don’t claim ownership to something you didn’t make. And even if you repost it and add “credit to the artist” at the bottom, thinking that people can Google the artist’s signature, that’s still not proper credit. The artist will never know that you just reposted their art, they will never see those notes, read those comments, feel the appreciation for their work.
So in short, and to come full circle to the original tagline of this post:
Don’t be a jerk. Reblog. Don’t repost.
Thank you <3

IF YOU DIDN’T MAKE IT, YOU DON’T OWN IT
Don’t be a jerk. Reblog, don’t repost. Bullshit like “credit to the artist” is not credit, it’s just an excuse to make you feel less bad for stealing.

Watercolor Tutorial: Colored Sketch in 2 hours ~
Tumblr media
There are many ways to approach watercolor paintings. I got asked my some kind people how I approach mine. So here is my first tutorial and hopefully an easy breakdown of how I color, with photos I tried to take while not letting the water dry ~
Some photos are a little dark, I apologize for that. Prepare for an overuse of the word “shapes” ;)
This tutorial assumes you have basic drawing and light & shadow knowledge. It’s to show how I approach coloring with watercolor. This tutorial doesn’t explain color theory.
Tumblr media
Materials: 110 lbs Lukas watercolor paper , natural white, acid free, glued on all 4 sides + Schmincke Watercolors + Watercolor brushes by Da Vinci  (The watercolor paper I used for this is of the cheaper yet usable kind ;) )
Step 1 - The Wet in Wet Technique
After you do your drawing or sketch, splash your whole canvas with clear water!
Tumblr media
No need to fix the drawing with spray before it gets wet. It’s not enough graphite to rub off and dirty your colors or smudge.
If you do more of a drawing, I would recommend to use a fixative very lightly. This pastel one is the one I use.
Tumblr media
You can even use a water spray bottle to wet the canvas! It’s faster and fun :3
Tumblr media
At this stage, I don’t really care if the colors stay within the lines. I just brush the pigments in the rough area of where they should be in the end. It’s all a very fast process. Don’t dally. Just throw on some colors!
And not too lightly ;) When watercolors dry, most of them dry less intense than they were when wet.
We’re talking about washes. Color that is not opaque.
Tumblr media
Don’t get nervous of having different colorful colors run into each other. Especially in faces. I promise when it dries, it won’t look half bad.
MORE UNDER THE CUT ~

Your artwork is the bomb, and it makes me so happy that I want to die. Please never stop. Also, I second, third, and twenty-fifth the question about commissions, and I know you've answered it already, but I guess I'm saying I'm super interested in commissioning an art piece for a Stucky fic I'm working on. And although I might literally die if that happened, I think it would be worth it. Please take my money. And thank you for being awesome.
Tumblr media
I will do my best to keep the art coming, my dear, I promise
And if you’re still interested in a commission, I’ll be out of a job in three weeks time, and I still have 2 commission spots open if you want to talk more about what you’d like? I’ll most certainly have the time (and need) for it.And please don’t die, love. The cops tend to ask so many annoying questions when there’s sudden and unpredictable death involved XD

Tumblr media
So, for those of you who don’t already know it, I had my very first Artist Alley Con experience this weekend. Meaning, I made prints of my art and then took them with me to sell at a convention.
The feedback I got on this “trial run” was, in short, amazing. I ran out of business cards a full day before the con ended, and people were so sweet and nice, it blew my mind.
It did, however, occur to me that if want to continue doing this (which I do) it will be a good thing to separate the Writing Chiyume and the Arting Chiyume into two different blogs, due to commissions, different fandoms etc.
So, in short: I made an art blog.
Here you can find all my previous art and this is also where I’ll be posting all my new pieces from now on. Most of it will most likely be reblogged to my main blog as well, but you’re more than welcome to follow this new one anyway :)
For those who picked up business cards at Kodachi, just follow the link to the new blog, and you will find all the relevant information and links for commissions etc. in the navigation bar on the left.
Thank you so much and have a great day!!

Have you a shop to buy prints of some of your work? Or do art for prints? I would love something stucky of yours on my wall...or would you do commissions like that? Would totally pay for that!
Asdfjshdaskdasldalskdal my art on your wall omg that’s amazing, I’m so flattered thank you
Uhh, I haven’t got a shop yet. I’ve been thinking about it, but I have absolutely no idea where to sell my art, should I decide to do it online. I’ve heard so many things from different people about pages that steal the rights to your stuff the minute you upload it, and I’m not sure if that’s something I’m willing to risk. If you have suggestions, I’m all ears ^^
I am actually going to a con here in Sweden at the end of May where I’ll make an attempt to sell my art as prints for the very first time :D I’m super nervous about it, but also super excited! I really do hope there’s a market for them, despite some of them being NSFW and so far exclusively for the Stucky fandom.
I’m planning to do a survey at the con, though, to see what people would like to see more of in the future, since this is all so very new to me. I’ve also considered to take commisions, both here on tumblr and at the con, but I haven’t taken the actual plunge yet XDD
Trust me, when I do, there will be a post about it, and I’ll happily draw some Stucky for you then :D
