Where do I start? Which of the stories in the 12+ years we knew each other do I tell? Which of the glorious tales of your beautiful life haven't already been recounted everywhere online? How does a person so warm, so grounded, so everything to everyone just die? This wasn't the plan Madam, this wasn't what we agreed, fellow Virtuous Woman (@prettymissfarmer). 2021 was supposed to be solid!! Your memories live in my heart forever, but what if we don't want memories? What if I just want my friend back? What if we don't want to do all of these eulogies and we just want you back, your efficient, easily tickled, mischievous self? Why can't I undo/reverse death, and bring back the twinkle in your eyes, the laughs you always covered, your beautiful, slender fingers, your love for catch up gist? You couldn't keep a grudge, you hated to entertain gossip, you didn't like drama. You just wanted to work, organise stuff, do well, and eat 😂. And you did well, you are excellent, Madam, everyone says you are. I have raged, I have questioned, I have wailed, I have passed countless hours just reliving the bits of your life I was privileged to experience. What a woman! Looking in boxes I haven't opened since 2015 and reminded that I'm actually a novel junkie... Gosh!⁣ ⁣ Have to give major props to charity shops in the UK that really helped me amass quite the stash for next to nothing. I know I ended up not bringing everything back, but it's such a joy to see that I still have so much! ⁣ ⁣ Very excited!!! I can't wait to rebuild this stash, maybe even host a book club! #TBT to this time last week when @MediaForCC, in collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden invited me to speak to representatives from 30 NGO's on "The Role of New Media in Achieving the SDGs.⁣ ⁣ My entire talk was centered on three points:⁣ ⁣ 1. Why makes you different? We all know the problem we want to solve, but drill down and find the niche that you can focus on and gives the media a new angle to that problem. Be the repository of data and knowledge on that niche. @akinalabi explained this beautifully with an analogy on restaurants vs amala spots. ⁣ ⁣ 2. Document everything. Write your vision and track your journey so you can grow/build trust with your audience and have clarity on potential collaborations.⁣ ⁣ 3. Collaborate. I've always been a worrier, the 'I have to understand how this is going to happen, otherwise I will panic myself to death' kind of person. Being in control is one of my strongest suits, and sometimes the fear of not being in control, or things not going the way I had designed them to go, or things just appearing to deviate from the plans in my head would cause me untold grief.⁣ ⁣ I've said that the second half of last year was tough, but the last quarter of the year was incredibly hellish, for someone who thought her aunt passing in 2013 was the toughest she'd ever see. There were too many stressors at the same time and I remember flailing, fighting despondency, yet refusing (vehemently, lol) to admit I was in trouble. On the surface, people wanted to live my life - to travel, take fancy pictures, give speeches, turn up, bla bla - but sometimes even I didn't want to live my life. ⁣ ⁣ I remember @Chude offering me his therapist, my very loud "there's nothing wrong with me", and then my inability to speak when I finally rang her. All I could do was cry. (BTW, I love you Chude. Always have, always will). ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ This year, I've tried to be intentional about my mental health, my peace of mind, my joy. I've turned down (good) work at the slightest hint of 'there's disrespect or wahala in the future of this', I'm working on closure with a few things, and I'm creating time for myself to stop, breathe, have fun, and bask in the love people show me. ⁣ ⁣ The #Joy retreat was a gift to myself, and something I feel incredibly blessed to have attended. I hoped it wouldn't hold (🤣🤣🤣🤣) because I didn't want to be vulnerable, but also because Chude refused to tell us the agenda and so I couldn't prepare myself to be in control. Na wa. ⁣ ⁣ But, it held. And it was beautiful, in every shade beautiful can be. We all talked, we cried (I know I did), we questioned, we searched, and we worshipped. I learned things about myself, I learned things about protecting my joy, and I felt and still feel loved by God in a way I've never felt before.
