I was going through some things I had kept around and I came across a thank you card from a friend I went to school with who lost her battle with her demons about this time a year ago. The thank you card was from her parents` memorial service, both who passed within months of each other of horrible diseases. It was a simple note about how happy she was I could be there and give her a big hug that made her feel like everything was going to be all right. It wasn't too long after this that her marriage fell apart, she started using, and stopped responding to messages. She had some medical issues herself and her weakened body gave up during surgery. I had forgotten all about that card and was gutted reading it, but I can't help but wonder if I could have done more or made a difference...
