Playing Card Blessings
Last month I ordered a randomized pack of vintage playing cards from https://www.etsy.com/shop/HappyDaysGoneBy (please be mindful of current Etsy boycotts, I ordered before they were in place). it was a really interesting selection, and most of the cards had very beautiful intricate artwork on the back unlike the standard patterns I am used to seeing. When I looked at some of the paintings, certain feelings immediately came to mind similar to when I am struck by the energy an object emits, which often leads to my turning it into one of my charms pieces for divining.

I decided to turn most of the cards into talismans of a sort, kind of like good luck charms that are already aimed at specific goal based on the feelings that were evoked when I looked at their accompanying art. I think “blessings” is a good word to describe the kind of gentle help it feels they bring. For example “to attract interesting strangers”, “to find a new job”, or “for healing quickly from a cold”. I now have most of the deck hanging near my door, and I tell guests that they can pick a blessing to take home that seems most fitting. I have written their purpose on the backs of all the cards, but most people choose without looking and I find it usually is exactly what they are looking for. For me, I will put one in my wallet now and again as I go out if I need something in particular, or use one as a bookmark.
I really enjoy integrating these kinds of things into my practice: taking inspiration from things around me and finding a way to make them even more useful for me and for others. Plus it’s a good way to stretch my intuiting muscles.
