IHRAM IS OBLIGATORY FOR PERFORMING HAJJ AND UMRAH
The first and the most important thing to do on embarking for Umrah and Hajj is to purify the intention for ALLAH The Almighty and to imitate the Prophet (PBUH), in all the rites and rituals of Hajj and Umrah, A good Umrah and Hajj is one that is done with complete sincerity, according to the guidance of Prophet (PBUH) and in which one abstains from harming other Muslims and sins.
The pilgrim must be aware of the rituals of Hajj and Umrah and its pillars. The pillars of Hajj include:
· Being in state of Ihraam (sacral state).
· Staying at ‘Arafah.
· Saaee, running between mountains of As-Safa and Al-Marwah.
A male in the state of Ihram should not tie any knots or wear any kind of stitched items. Sandals and flip flops should not be stitched either and must allow the back of foot and ankle to be exposed). Whereas in the state of Ihram, a Muslim should not use any scents or perfume on the body or on the robes.
During ihram, women should have their faces uncovered; they are forbidden to wear the veil or Naqaab. Though, the Dupatta or Hijab is permitted. There is also no Gender separation during the Umrah and Hajj. Unlike in mosques (masjid), men and women pray together. It is to remind everyone that on the Qayamt or Day of Judgment, both men and women will stand together.
Ihram in Islam is a sacred state in which a Muslim should enter in order to perform the major pilgrimage Hajj or the minor pilgrimage Umrah. A pilgrim must enter into state oh Ihram before crossing the pilgrimage boundary, known as meeqat, by performing the cleaning rituals and wearing the prescribed clothing.
Aside from being as hygienic (purified) as they are for prayer (namaz), Muslims are expected to abstain from cutting their nails, and trimming their beards and hair. They should also not wear any scent, perfume or deodorant. They have to wear Ihram garments, which is white, seamless clothing. Many people also shave their head as this is considered clean and hygienic. Most wait to shave their heads hairs until after they have finished all the rituals of Umrah or Hajj, as this is a necessity to leave the state of Ihram.
Other activities that are forbidden include using profane language, killing animals, and taking oaths, quarrelling or fighting in addition to any other regular basis prohibited acts. Males should also abstain from looking at women. Women should exercise strict modesty in their appearance and must not apply perfume, make-up, or any other type of cosmetics.
Muslims are also not allowed to use scented soap. For pilgrims unscented soap is available for during hajj. All arrogant, flirtatious and rude thoughts are to be put aside, Muslims must forget about all the worldly things and focus on worshipping ALLAH.

MODESTY AND HAYA ARE NECESSARY INGREDIENT IN EVERY MUSLIM’S LIFE
Every society has some cultural values and norms and, due to which it remains intact and functions appropriately. These common set of principles are mandatory to act upon for each and everyone, and deviating from them can result in severe consequences. Morals describe a particular civilization, and one standard that are strictly followed in a person social order might not be applied in another. However, there are several merits that are considered as very important for the survival of any societal structure that include honesty, justice, truthfulness, humbleness, and modesty etc. All the religions in the world have had some common ideology circling around uprightness and morality. As Islam is a continuance of previous spiritual beliefs, so it also focuses and emphasizes on keeping humility and humbleness in every matter of life.
Islam directs us to obtain Haya in our actions; Haya is an expression that is derived from Arabic term Hayat that means life. It is often restrained merely to bashfulness and shyness, which could also include negative aspects like cowardice and timidity; somewhat it has wider implications like being restrained, virtuous, upright, faithful etc. It is a crucial part of one’s disposition which is why Prophet (PBUH) has regarded shameless person as free of all obligations. Because if someone is not following and adhering to core doctrine of morality (that is taken as Haya here), then it cannot fulfil its vital purpose of existence. Just like a vehicle runs on gas, same like that self consciousness is the catalyst of one’s character, which makes a person to work for decency, and avoid what is harmful.
Modesty is a Part of Faith
A person with lack of belief is one who would not undergo any sort of embarrassment while committing transgression or wrongdoings from Islamic teachings. Whereas those Muslims who know difference between wrong and right, would think many times before indulging in bad deeds or wrongdoings.
So, the completion of Islamic fervour needs a lot more than just having belief in Oneness of ALLAH and Prophet Hood of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and modesty is one of these essential constituents. While, instructions of the ALLAH Almighty are to be observed in every matter of life, so realization of ethical behaviour in each issue of life automatically strengthens one’s faith.
Source of achievement Increased Righteousness
Modesty is consisting of two parts: external and internal. To deals with having decency in one’s speech, dressing and overall behaviour, whereas the latter is purification of soul and heart by being mindful of ALLAH all the times. Unfortunately, majority among us take it only as a sign of shyness like Hijab (veil) for women, but actually it should be regular ingredient of everybody’s routine, so that it might lead a person to uprightness.
