“Perhaps”... what if we were to let this word become a staple in our everyday lives? What might we do that we otherwise would have outsourced, wrote off, or never tried? Our brains may be wired to initially identify all the potential components of failure, but this doesn’t mean that our brains have accurately predicted the outcome. In fact, what our brains predict is rarely 100% accurate. Perhaps there are problems, relationships, and desires we need to address - and perhaps we are strong enough to face them. Allowing room for the outcome of success may just be what we all need to promote growth in our lives. - Chattanooga Counseling and Consulting -

Maslow’s Hammer
The “Law of the Instrument,” or Maslow’s Hammer, suggests that we are prone to over-reliance on familiar or favorite tools. These tools may have proven themselves useful in past scenarios, but they may also be unhelpful or counterproductive if applied to all situations. Returning to an old, but familiar coping skill rather than searching for new solutions has the potential to keep us stuck in the very ruts we are trying to avoid. Maslow was a proponent of searching out new ways of thinking, exploring different ways of communicating, and gaining insight into unhelpful repetitive patterns of behavior. Consider that there may be new ways of thinking on the horizon… and that searching for them is within your reach. - Chattanooga Counseling and Consulting - https://www.chattanoogacounselingandconsulting.com/

It is not hard to find suffering, despair, tragedy, and misery. It’s a given that we are susceptible to difficulties and pain, and that pessimism is an easy coping default. In this quote, Rogers challenges us to look at others and ourselves as agents of change, encouragement, and empathy. Though we cannot eliminate the suffering in our world, it is within our power to lessen its prevalence and help others heal from the impact. - Chattanooga Counseling and Consulting -
