Started "When the Tides Held the Moon" by Venessa Vida Kelley and finished it in an absolute stupor.

I absolutely LOVED this book. I only picked it up by chance, because it was among the cheaper ones on kindle for the Rainbow Reads Reading Challenge on Goodreads. 5/5

Ngl, I wanted to post this ages ago but unfortunately I spent the last weeks severely losing the plot. But Pride month isn't over yet so here we go! I really wanted to recommend a few queer books that I personally love. I tried to find a healthy balance of kinda popular but maybe not very known that it is queer and maybe not promoted as often. So... some recs from my personal bookshelf that feature queer characters :)

My Week of Reading

June 16th to 22nd

Sooo I have not, in fact despawned, dear citizens of tumblr. I just had Covid and consequentially lost my will to live a little... And then there was that 100th episode of my fave DnD campaign... But now I'm back and while not necessarily better than ever I sure am doing a little better. So here's what I read the past week.

Monday, June 16th

Started Legend of the White Snake by Sher Lee for the Heritage Reads Reading Challenge.

Tuesday, June 17th

Finished Legend of the White Snake, once again in a bout of mild insanity.

302 pages, Legend of the White Snake

Cute, does what it says on the tin but nothing all too groundbreaking, I did cry during the last chapters. Not a huge fan of the twist though. Solid 3.5/5.

Wednesday, June 18th

Started Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov both for the Centennial Reads and because I want to read my Dark Vanessa and similar books with a proper background. It's much tougher to read than basicaly anything else, my goodness.

I'll be so real with you, I don't know exactly how that happened, I rarely breeze through books that quickly, if I'm not that interested in them. Gave the book a solid 3,5/5. Romance isn't always my thing but I was surprised by how much I liked the last third of it.

Wednesday, June 4th

Finally continued the first Heaven Official's Blessing by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu. Not all too much because I was otherwise occupied in the library that day.

Finally feeling human again, mostly. Finished my beloved TCGF and started the bonus Volume of MDZS.

Love, love loved TCGF. I adore Hua Cheng so much. He is the guy ever. Also Xie Lian my sweet angel. Cannot wait to continue the series!

May Reads☆

May was a comparatively slow month by my standards, but I managed to get a few things done nonetheless.

So, here you go:

As you may be able to tell, I fell right into the danmei rabbit hole I narrowly escaped two years ago. Now I'm back and worse than ever.

Thousand Autumns by Meng Xi Shi 4/5☆

This is the one that forcefully restarted my danmei phase.

Cynical Demonic Sect Leader Yan Wushi saves the devout and earnest Shen Qiao, after he is left nearly dead after a fight. As Shen Qiao recovers Yan Wushi aims to prove to him the inate selfishness of humanity. However, similarly to him Shen Qiao's beliefs are an ummovable force.

This was SO fun to read. Yan Wushi is a chaotic bastard and a massive drama queen while Shen Qiao is the most unbothered king EVER. God I love their dynamic so much.

All that set in a story of politic intrigue and plenty of martial arts.

Heavy recommend if you like chaos, shenanigans and a good wuxia.

The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu 4/5☆

Yeah, I reread the entirety (except the extra story volume) of MDZS. Ad I said, danmei phase. For simplicity's sake I will summarize the series in one review.

MDZS has, and always will a have a very special place in my heart. It's the first danmei I ever read and made me fall in love with the genre.

Wei Wuxian is the scary story of the cultivation worls, the founder of the Demonic path. Known as the Yiling Patriarch he spread terror everywhere. Until his cultivation tore him apart.

Now, thirteen years after his death, he finds himself in the body of a gay man, deemed insane by his peers and rejected by his family. As Wei Wuxian seeks to complete what comes with a body sacrifice he meets the reserved and strict Lan Wangji, his old friend and rival. Together they set off to unravel a mystery and slowly uncover the biggest conspiracy in the cultivation world.

I love this series so, so much. Wei Wuxian is a delightfully annoying and obnoxious narrator and relishes in causing nothing but chaos. He is so incredibly funny and his inner monologue makes me giggle. He is also the most oblivious idiot to ever do it.

Lan Wangji is a simpering mess but somehow manages to hide it, mostly at least. This man is yearning turned human.

Their dynamic is an absolute joy to experience and the way their personalities play off each other is delightful.

MXTX manages to give all her characters such big personalities that make it super fun to love and/ or hate them. Additionally, the sheer amount of interwoven parts of the story are insane. Sometimes the smallest details come back to haunt you later on and it is so fascinating to watch the story unfold.

My biggest criticism are the 18+ scenes, while I can only speal for the German translation they feel off. The dialogue and descriptions are too much and not particularly organic. Also the anatomy makes me die inside, please someone give these men lube.

Still an absolutely gut wrenching and fun series to read. If you enjoy a huge amount of gay yearning, obliviousness and pure shit stirring with a side of insane political conspiracies, please read this.

Off the internet I work in a school library but I'll start training as a book seller soon.
