roach, hi! can i ask a pretty dumb question about how you share your works from ao3 so that they look so nifty, with tags and summaries and wordcount and everything? do you have a template for this?
it’s not dumb, a lot of AO3′s niftier features aren’t advertised! but check it out, the archive has its own special button for sharing to tumblr, where it does the formatting for you.
click the share button between comments and subscribe. also btw if you like a wip click subscribe, and you’ll get email notification when it updates. love that feature.
here you can see the raw code that’s gonna be shared, and edit ahead of time if you want. also, copy and paste it into another website besides the offered tumblr or twitter.
since this fic has pictures, you can post it to tumblr as a picture post, or a link! that’s neat. man, @splickedylit and @toastyhat are such good artists.
i clicked link, and as you can see, it’s nicely formatted, with chapters, fandom, rating, and everything. you can edit it here, too, if you want it to be bold or indented or whatever, and add your own commentary beneath. also obviously because it’s a tumblr post, you can add tags: i usually tag these posts with ‘fic’ ‘fanfic’ and ‘fic rec’.
and that’s all there is to it! A03 is a genuinely quality website with great coding, and can even make tumblr behave for you.

things i did that forced me to be a better artist:
used a reference for everything
thinner line art (you think thats thin? go thinner….)
sketch, then do a cleaner sketch, THEN start finalizing
THUMBNAILS
color research, picking a set palette or light/dark for each work
you like that pose? redo it one more time
USE A DAMN REFERENCE
do not rely on stylization as an excuse for anatomy
draw the goddamn background you coward
just draw the hand- a bad hand is better than a hidden hand
the rule of thirds WORKS
take a considerable break between sketch and lines/paint
know that art takes longer as you get better at it
draw the seams on clothes
stop aiming for accuracy and focus on fluidity and motion, accuracy will come with practice of those two concepts
just…do the chiaroscuro. just DO IT. no excuses it always works
stop making excuses, make yourself an art schedule/set weekly(or daily) art goals and just DO IT.
