I had a friend, the only black British girl that I knew in my year throughout the whole of Oxford.      ‘   uhhhhhhhh ,   ’    was  the  start  of  rory’s     PROFOUND ADVICE .       he     takes     one     look     at     the   thing           [   WHATEVER IT  WAS .   ]      on     the     plate     with     as     much    of    a      neutral   expression   as   he   can   muster .          MR.  WILLIAMS    with   his      hospital   scrubs    on    makes    the   scene   look    almost   comical      !        without     context    it     appears      as    if     rory     was     examining      a       MEDICAL EXPERIMENT GONE WRONG .           ‘   before  i   answer ,  ’        he      begins    without    taking     his     eyes     off      her   handiwork ,         ‘  i’ve   got   two   questions    ;        ONE   :        what        is   it   ?           AND TWO     :      you’re    not   planning   on   feeding    THAT TO THE KIDS   ,      are   you    ?     ’           there  was  a  trickle  of  concern  in  his  voice       MILD ENOUGH      to    hopefully   not   cause   offense  .

rory is not perfect okay he’s a wonderful character who cares about people and loves loving and exploring the boundaries of the universe and humanity but oh Man is he bitter? so bitter and prone to envy. he can’t help it but its there. he constantly wonders about situations where life could be better where he isnt judged and where he’s appreciated more. he doesnt want world domination, he doesnt want money, he doesnt want to be Better Than Everyone, he just wants to be seen and told he’s capable. for too long he was convinced that he wasnt good enough because of constant negative self talk and nobody was ever there ready to dispute it (apart from his dad but he always assumed he was only saying that bc he was his dad and thats what Parents Do(tm)). idk rory was and still is very socially anxious and so he cant help but be overly conscious of his actions and look at other people wishing he could be as carefree and confident as them

uhhhhhhhhh rory killing amy as the centurion was honestly the worse because he had no control over his actions like he was begging amy to leave him and run to safety but she refused. she believed he wouldn’t do it and then he was forced to helplessly watch as he shot his soulmate in the stomach and watched the light leave her eyes. he couldnt even bury her because he couldnt accept what he had done, he just couldnt accept that she was gone. so he sits there, holding her in his arms and talking to her as if she wasnt dead, waiting for her to wake up and tell him how silly he was. it was the first time he prayed properly for a long long time, unable to move his arms from around his wife. he repeats ‘inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un - which roughly translates to ‘we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return’ over and over again. it is only until he gets interrupted by the doctors appearance that he stops
