I haven't seen any of the Arcane season 2 leaks (thankfully) but I can already tell that Caitlyn is going to get a barrage of hatred from the fans based on what I've seen so far.

Caitlyn is far from being a perfect character but guess what? no one in arcane is an entirely good person and that's literally what makes it such a good show. the whole show is about children (daughters especially) who have to pay the price of the "sins" of the older generation or/and are doomed to repeat them.

For example, Vi attempts to cooperate with Piltover and in doing so becomes sidelined by Jinx becoming a symbol of the revolution (much in the same way Vander lost some of his relevance in the Undercity towards the end of his life and got replaced by Silco). Caitlyn sees herself as a hero and an instrument of justice, much in the same way her mother sees herself as a righteous leader (even though they are both a part of an institution that is responsible for the oppression of the Undercity)

Complicated as their relationship may be, I'm sure Caitlyn is going to become consumed with grief after Cassandra's death (yeah it hasn't been confirmed but it's a fair guess to make). If this fandom can rationalize Jinx's motivations for all the immoral things that she has done (the fact that she literally blew up all hopes of a peaceful power sharing agreement!!), then there's really no reason why the same should not be done for Cait. I'm pretty sure the writers have set up these characters the way that they did in season 1 so that season 2 can portray them as mirrors of each other as they both abandon morality in the pursuit of their goals

Duality and the clash between values is a major theme of the show. It's about a single nation divided into two halves for crying out loud lmaoo. Of course all the characters are going to be capable of both good, bad and everything in between.

TLDR : the world isnt black and white and good media (Arcane) will always reflect this thank you for coming to my TED talk

Simon: Agreed. Though if they are to marry someone must first hunt down Eloise.
