Cedar Reviews Books
200 posts
Hello! I'm Cedar, and this blog is where I will write reviews for books, graphic novels, movies, and more - all in 5 sentences or less. I'll also reblog book recommendations and other bookish things. My favorites are dystopia and utopia, but I will also read sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and anything LGBTQIA+ or nature-themed.

I'm getting some traction on my Juneteenth post so if you are seeing me for the first time allow me to fill you in on who I am and what I believe
I am a black, transgender, American author who has spent the past 20+ years working in some form or another in radar/radio frequency engineering. What that means is I know how to build and fix radios, antennas, radars, and other communication tech.
I wrote a book! I'd love for you to check it out!
It's about an immortal superheroine desperate for a break from running the world. She gets caught and called out by a service station attendant who she ends up roping into her found family. The main character is black, sapphic, and has asexual vibes. Pretty much the entire cast is some sort of lgbt. It's a gay ass book and it's life changing for a lot of the people who have read it.
I talk A LOT about politics
I'm not afraid to show anger
I'm not afraid to show my sexuality
I'm not afraid to sell my book because it helps me LIVE
And I will leave behind anyone who causes me stress without a second thought
Black lives matter. Love is love. FREE PALESTINE. Zero billionaires. Talk in good faith.
Happy Pride, happy Juneteenth, buy my book or donate because everything costs money, and I fucking love you

Trans History: A Graphic Novel: From Ancient Times to the Present Day
Listen on Audiobook
Alex L. Combs (Author), Andrew Eakett (Author)
What does “trans” mean, and what does it mean to be trans? Diversity in human sex and gender is not a modern phenomenon, as readers will discover through illustrated stories and records that introduce historical figures ranging from the controversial Roman emperor Elagabalus to the swashbuckling seventeenth-century conquistador Antonio de Erauso to veterans of the Stonewall uprising Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera. In addition to these individual profiles, the book explores some of the societal roles played by trans people beginning in ancient times and shows how European ideas about gender were spread across the globe. It explains how the science of sexology and the growing acceptance of (and backlash to) gender nonconformity have helped to shape what it means to be trans today. Illustrated conversations with modern activists, scholars, and creatives highlight the breadth of current trans experiences and give readers a deeper sense of the diversity of trans people, a group numbering in the millions. Extensive source notes provide further resources. Moving, funny, heartbreaking, and empowering, this remarkable compendium from trans creators Alex L. Combs and Andrew Eakett is packed with research on every dynamic page.

-_- apparently the cut-off for this thing I want to submit to (which closes tomorrow) is 70k words, and I’ve got 67k
I need to think of three thousand words of bullshit to pad this thing. like a chapter where everyone goes for coffee, or something.

Happy Pride Month! Here are some Tumblr blogs dedicated to queer culture.
I just realized that I should probably rec these. They do some amazing work, and helped me to discover valuable stories that I wouldn't have otherwise.
@haveyoureadthistransbook ; @haveyoureadthisqueerbook ; @haveyouseenthisqueerfilm : Polls about whether or not you know a queer book/film, that doubles as a list of queer books/films.
@celluloidrainbow : A database of queer movies.
@free-queer-books : A database of free book promotions that are happening. If there is a book blast event, they will make a list of the queer ones.
@makingqueerhistory : Writes about queer history.
There are more, it's just that these are the ones I use. Feel free to add on!

The ebook for Artifice & Access: A Disability in Fantasy Anthology edited by Ella T. Holmes and featuring 14 disabled authors and 14 stories of disabled people as the main character in fantasy settings is on sale for Pride month!! There are so many queer identities inside this anthology--my own story has two demi Sapphics in a gender bent Robin Hood retelling!
This is the first time it's gone on sale, so if you've just been waiting for it to get cheaper, now is your chance! (but also, it IS on @queerliblib sooo you can get it for free literally whenever haha)
IMPORTANT! Not all outlets have updated the price yet, but it should be updated in the next few days! So if it doesn't say $3.99 on your preferred ebook bookstore, just wait a few days and check again! But I do know for sure that Kobo, bookshop.org, and kindle have the sale price (amazon for some reason has the ebook listed twice and only one of them has the correct price, use the lower price one!)

BUY MY BOOK!
STRICTLY NO HEROICS (Feiwel & Friends, Macmillan Children’s, 2023) IS OUT NOW!
Tumblr media
[ID: cover of a book showing a figure in a gasmask, hoodie and gloves, leant on an old TV. A rainbow pride pin is pinned to their jacket. Text reads ‘STRICTLY NO HEROICS’ in neon pink and green, and ‘B. L. Radley’ in white.]
If you’re a powerless normie in a world run by superheroes, you need three rules to survive:
1: Keep your head down
2: Don’t make enemies
3: STRICTLY NO HEROICS
When a hero gropes her best friend, Riley Jones breaks all of them.
Her attempt at serving justice gets her fired from her summer job. Luckily, Sunnylake City’s biggest business is booming (literally, when there’s C4 involved).
Every villain wants henchmen: masked cronies who take their coffee orders, vacuum their secret lairs, and posture in the background while they fight. The HENCH agency provides a steady stream of drop-outs and losers who are willing to get beaten up by sidekicks for minimum wage.
Riley might just be the perfect candidate.
Any boosts would be greatly appreciated <3 Let’s give my debut some love?
If you like queer & wlw content, teenage activists organizing strikes, and superhero stories from the perspective of the civilians… this is the book for you!

hey, tumblr fandom folks. hey, people who were and are and always low-key will be into fandoms like merlin and doctor who and suoernatural. i'm talking to you right now because I Am you and also I wrote this book for you.
slides Fractured Magic across the table toward you. you want a good fantasy story you can really sink your teeth into? with characters that shine just as much as the world does?
this is not your standard epic fantasy. It's an epic fantasy written by a fanfic writer. It's an epic fantasy written by someone who knows the politics and the worldbuilding BUT ALSO knows how to write characters that'll stick in your teeth and make you want to rotate them in your brain like a rotisserie chicken. it's full of so much yearning and friendship and MESS and angst
it's also VERY gay.
you can read it online for free, but it's also coming soon to print!
