feeling some type of way about eddie explaining the things buck says to people. “buck was on the pier when the tsunami hit so he’s kinda obsessed with natural disasters.” “he takes christopher there all the time, got the place memorised.” it not only shows how much eddie listens to buck and cares about him, but it’s also him actively trying to get other people to do the same. this is why buck is telling you this, this is why it’s important to him, this is why you should listen to him. pay attention to him. care. it’s obvious how much that’s going to mean to buck, someone who came from a family where he had to fight to be cared about. and eddie does it effortlessly. he cares so much and he wants other people to care too. and like, we know buck will take any excuse to talk about eddie, and this is kind of eddie’s way of doing the same. his way of telling people what he knows about buck by elaborating on what buck says. i know why this is important to buck and i’m going to tell you because he deserves to be heard. it’s all very sweet.

One thing that Hayden said to me was that when they had shot the prequels, there had been a real fraternity between him and Ewan. Ewan had been sort of almost a big brother to him. — Deborah Chow

You know what I keep remembering? How Abby never talked to Buck after she left, whether because of time zones or because eventually she just couldn’t. And how Buck was still very much in it with her, still stepped into her life, but had to learn where she was from Instagram and maybe a few texts. Buck didn’t know she’d be on the train. Asked her when she knew she was never coming back.
Meanwhile, Eddie’s in El Paso and not only is Buck very much still in it with him, co-parenting and reassuring Eddie and just listening to him, he’s in constant communication with him. It’s not just phone calls but FaceTime. While Buck’s at work and Eddie’s at home. While Buck is at home and Eddie’s at work. They’re both living their lives but everything is still so entangled. Buck doesn’t have to guess what is happening with Eddie: Eddie calls to make sure he knows. Buck is the first and for a while the only person who knows about the firefighting job falling through, knows about what happens with Chris, knows about his worries and his fears. All the while, Buck can’t ask Eddie when he’s coming back because for all they know, Eddie isn’t. Yet. He doesn’t have to question anything else either.

the fact that buck was the one who convinced eddie to text chris immediately which led to the reconciliation....he did what he always does. he fixed it, even from 800 miles away

no but Eddie was wavering, Eddie was on the brink of giving in to his upbringing, his father's voice: "I was providing for this family." the old wound opened up and he was about to throw in the towel and go back to LA and his job because that's the most important thing right? money? and it was Buck who stopped him. Buck was the one who said no, you have to stay. you went out there to be Christopher's dad because that's what really matters here. he knows Eddie's fears and he knows Eddie's heart and he knows how to use the one to beat the other

that 'i don't have a wife' followed by those really fucking lovely facetime calls where buck was supportive and amazing and gave eddie the advice he needed to hear...chef's kiss. that was the best thing they could have done. because it's not a lie - he doesn't have a wife. but he has a fucking partner in every sense of the word and it's so obvious.

unpopular opinion (maybe?) but we are not going to see eddie mentioning buck every other sentence in el paso. this is because they are different people who deal with their feelings of loss differently. and also because buck's biggest problem at the moment is quite literally that eddie is in texas. while eddie's biggest problem at the moment is that he had to leave his entire life behind to go grovel at the feet of his parents who took his own son away from him just so he can see his son again. thanks for your time

2 facetime calls, 2 times eddie had a problem and called buck immediately, 2 times buck successfully helped him and reassured him, 2 times to reinforce that this is a regular and common occurrence
buck is literally his person, the person he turns too when there's a problem, the person he asks for advice about his son, the person who knows everything he can't bring himself to tell others, the person who's voice and face he seeks out when he's struggling, the person who can calm him down, who can understand his problems and what he's trying to do, the person he can rely on to be on his side

They are really doing it! They're really truly doing it. I didn't expect this episode to be that loud dear god it's really real 😭😭😭😭😭
it's so funny because compared to 8x11 this episode was really subdued but then you think about it in the context of everything and they gave us not one but TWO scenes of buck literally being the perfect partner to eddie. two scenes of buck being literally eddie's partner in the way that chimney was maddie's partner the whole episode.
THEY'RE DOING IT!!!!!!

buck not letting eddie give in to his insecurity about the job. buck not letting eddie talk himself out of his decision to move. buck holding eddie accountable for lying to chris and taking into account how chris must be feeling but also reminding him that all he needs is his dad. and that's exactly why he's eddie's partner in life and always will be, because he will never fail to consider what's best for both eddie AND christopher and to help them get there.

both buck and chimney supporting eddie and maddie through their difficulties this episode is so special to me honestly. the parallels in this show with madney and buddie in particular are so incredibly obvious and i will never get over how beautiful they are. <3
