@htsan
I wrote a fanfic based on IJAG, too!
I wanted to write this thing for Christmas or New Year's Eve, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. XD
Yule see me on the other side
You don't know how you came to such an idea. Were you just curious about what would come of it, or did you get so bored celebrating New Year's Eve alone? There could be both options at once.
Anyway, here you were. Sitting in a dark room with your back to the front door. In front of you was a mirror and candles lit around it. Before that, you've already tried, it seems, all the fortune-telling that you could think of.
You interpreted randomly opened columns of poems or sentences in books. You lit a candle, poured the melted wax into the water and tried to make out some fanciful images in the frozen figures. You dealt the cards. You listened carefully to the sounds outside the window. You even threw a boot over your shoulder on the street…
…Which landed on the roof of your house. It's a good thing that you used your old boot for this.
And now it's nearing midnight, you stare into the dark mirror until your eyes hurt, feeling a strange mixture of anxiety and excitement, hoping at some point to see his face in the reflection…
***
Sans was celebrating New Year's Eve with his family and friends when he was suddenly overcome by an inexplicable melancholy. It was their first New Year since you freed the monsters and they moved to the surface in their world.
Sans had been feeling a bit strange these past few days. Like... his connection to your world has become stronger, clearer, more stable. He could sense your moods even better than ever during your ‘conversations’. Sometimes it seemed to him that if he looked a little closer, he could see your face. That if he reached out, he could feel your warmth. Sans even thought that this was it, the barrier between you was beginning to weaken. He spent more and more time trying to figure it out. But strangely, no calculations, no experiments with the barrier, no instrument readings, nothing confirmed the idea that the barrier was weakening. Everything was the same as ever. And that was even more baffling.
The sadness he felt at that moment reminded him of you too. It even seemed that some barely discernible voice was calling him somewhere. Soon, this feeling was replaced by another one. Sans felt uncharacteristically restless. The strange urge to run out of the house was growing.
Finally Sans couldn't take it anymore. After the chimes and mutual congratulations, he excused himself to go outside for some fresh air.
The sky was clear with stars and a full moon, which seemed especially beautiful this night. Surprisingly, there were no sounds, only fresh snow cheekily crunched underfoot when walking. At one point, it even felt like the whole world was empty and Sans was completely alone in it. In this void, a voice was even more clearly heard, calling to the forest that was not far from the house.
Sans kept thinking of you on the road. How are you doing in your world? Are you having fun now? In the course of your ‘conversations’ it became clear that your worlds were quite similar, you celebrated almost the same holidays. Moreover, it turned out that the time in your worlds was about the same, too.
Sans mentally wished you all the best, because you deserve it. For striving to always make the right choice, even when it wasn't easy. For all your kindness and understanding, for your willingness to listen and help. For your loyalty and dedication. For your optimism. For your patience. For your passion. Love. Determination. For remaining you despite everything.
As beautiful as the surface was, without you it seemed... incomplete. Sans missed you so much. There wasn't a day when he didn't think of you, making up jokes in hopes of someday actually telling them to you, of hearing you laugh.
As he walked like that, lost in thought, he did not notice that he had travelled quite a distance.
The things you make him do.
However, after crossing a small, non-frozen stream that was in the forest, Sans began to feel a bit out of place. Sans had been to these places often. Papyrus, out of old habit, insisted on setting up a puzzle or two in this forest as well for humans' amusement, and asked Sans to help him when Frisk or Undyne were busy. And how could he say no to his brother?
Especially since trolling Paps in the process definitely made it worth it.
Anyway, Sans knew this forest pretty well. But now it seemed… different somehow. The feeling of anxiety grew stronger. It also seemed familiar for some reason, as if Sans had experienced something similar before.
Bright lights appeared ahead and Sans came out of the forest... on a completely unfamiliar street. Nearby, houses decorated for the New Year could be seen, flashing all kinds of colors. One of them especially caught Sans’ attention. There was nothing special about this house, but he was drawn to it like a magnet. A few moments later, Sans found himself at the doorstep of this house without noticing.
He should have left. After all, Sans had entered private property uninvited. But not only did he not leave, he rang the doorbell for some reason.
This is bad.
A bell was heard from the other side. But nobody came.
Sans called again. What was wrong with him, why did he keep doing that? The reply was silence again.
He rang one more time.
Suddenly something fell off the roof. It was a boot, dragging some snow along with it and landing next to Sans, pointing its toe at him.
Weird, what was it doing on the roof?
He was distracted from these thoughts by the sound of footsteps on the other side of the door. His non-existent heart sank into his heels.
“Who's there?” - asked the voice. That voice... Even though Sans had never heard it before, it seemed so familiar, as if he had known the owner of that voice for an eternity.
"yule" - he replied with a tremor in his voice.
For a few moments there was silence again. Then the voice asked slowly, as if in shock.
"Y-yule who?"
"yule see me on the other side!" - Sans said with a self-satisfied smile.
There was a loud gleeful laugh and the sound of a door opening.
***
You were still looking in the mirror when the doorbell rang. But you weren't expecting anyone, even this New Year's Eve.
When you came to the door and asked who was behind it, the answer just shocked you. There was no doubt that it was him. Sans. The voice was exactly the same as you always imagined it to be.
After recovering from the initial shock and laughing heartily at Sans’ silly joke, you finally opened the door. In front of you really stood the one you had been longing to see all this time. For about a minute you just stood there looking at each other, trying to memorise everything down to the smallest detail.
“y/n?”
“Sans”
Was all you could say at the moment to each other.
Then Sans smiled a bit wider, his cheeks blue.
"hey there. don't you know how to greet an old pal?" - he said.
You felt like you were bursting out at those words. You started crying and hugged Sans with all your might.
"w-woah there. that's not what i had in mind" – he breathed.
“shhh” - he soothed you, rubbing circles on your back – “i'm here. no need to cry. you know, i'd prefer to see ya smiling instead.”
“But how is that possible, how did you end up in my world?” - you asked, calming down a little.
“dunno. i just went out for a walk and found myself... here. i'm just as confused as you are” – Sans shrugs.
“although, maybe i should ask you how i ended up here. throughout this strange adventure, i felt as if i was being led by something. and not to mention that boot that fell from the roof” – Sans nodded at a shoe lying in the snow nearby – “what were you doing here, hmm? did you try to summon me? do you have some magic powers as well now or something?” – Sans asked with a playful wink – “stars, you never cease to amaze me.”
Now it's your turn to blush. Why is he always so observant? And what are you supposed to tell him? You had a sudden urge to change the subject.
It's only now that you notice you're still standing on the doorstep, letting the wind into the house.
“Oh, where are my manners?” – you said – “Come on in. Do you want some cocoa? Made to my special recipe.”
“if it's as sweet as you and as warm as your smile, i won't say no. i got chilled to the bone while talking to you there, heh.”
That's it. You're sure your face is as red as holly berries.
“but as i see it, you don't need a warm-up. at least your face looks pretty hot” – Sans said with mischief in his eyes and barely suppressed laughter.
“Oh, just get in already.”
***
For the next couple of hours you just sat in the living room on the sofa under a plaid, drinking cocoa and chatting about everything in the world. It really felt like you've known each other forever, but along with that you could talk and talk and never get bored of each other.
And then you came up with an idea. Despite the fact that you didn't really want to get out of your cozy nest, you wanted to show Sans your favorite place in the town. Fortunately, it was not so far away.
“tibia honest, i don’t wanna go somewhere else,” – Sans said to answer your offer.
You became a little upset at it.
“but if this place is special to you, i'll follow you wherever it is, even if it's in another world. i guess today's event won't let me lie on that.” – Sans added.
You perk up again.
“One moment, I'll get dressed in no time” - you said, pulling on your warmest clothes – “It's got a view you won't regret…”
***
When you got to your destination, there was hardly anyone there anymore. It was a small amusement park that served as a kind of square in winter, where people from all over the neighbourhood gathered to celebrate Christmas and New Year's Eve.
The night time, coupled with the garland-lit figures peeking out from around the corner here and there, made the place truly magical. There was also a skating rink and a large Christmas tree standing in the centre of the park. During the daytime, there were children running around and adults chatting nicely with each other. Having the time of their lives.
Like in Snowdin. Flashed through your head. Why are you always comparing your world to his?
“what's that?” – asked Sans, interrupting your train of thought.
“Hm, what?”
“what is this place for?” – Sans asked again, pointing to the skating rink.
“Why, it's the skating rink” – you answered.
“skating… rink?” – Sans looked a bit confused.
“Well, yeah, people skate on it.”
Sans continued to look at you with a blank stare.
“Oh. My. God. You've lived most of your life in Snowdin and you don't know what a skating rink is? Didn't any of the monsters try to skate on the ice for fun? You're losing a lot. Next time we will definitely go for a ride.”
“next time?”
“Why not? If it worked out once, maybe it'll work out next time. At least I hope so.”
“yeah, me too.”
So you made it to the Christmas tree. It stood, stretching almost all the way to the sky and twinkling lights in a friendly way.
“hey, i wanted to ask you, if you don’t mind” - Sans interrupted the silence again.
You made a ‘go ahead’ gesture.
“why is this place special to you? i mean, don't get me wrong. it's really pretty n’all, but what makes it different from all the other beautiful places?”
Your face has taken a somewhat melancholic expression at his question.
“I used to visit here a lot when I was a kid” – you answered – “Also, my family and I always spent time here together for Christmas and New Year's holidays.”
“…and where's your family now?”
“Let's just say, we don't talk a lot anymore” – you said, ducking your head to conceal the gathering tears.
“jeez, i’m sorry, i didn’t mean to-” - Sans started to apologise in a panic.
“No, it's fine. You didn't know.” - you said, raising your head again.
“but still. hey,” – Sans said, gently wiping the remnants of tears from your cheeks – “i don't know what's going on in your relationship with family, and you don't have to talk about it now if it's hard for you. but if you’ll ever need any advice on the subject, you can always come to me. i'm sure we'll figure something out. together.”
You smiled and replied a single ‘thank you’.
“hold on, if you said you always came here with your family and you wanted to bring me here, does that mean that you consider me...”
Sans was interrupted by a sudden noise that made both of you jump on the spot. Fireworks. From somewhere in the distance, shining lines soared into the sky, scattering into dozens of multicolored sparks. You watched the light show for some time.
It's been a few years since you've barely celebrated New Year's Eve. Why celebrate if you don't have anyone to share it with, right? It didn't seem to make any sense. Not for you. You didn't even know how to celebrate alone and have fun.
But now, in Sans' company, you didn't feel so lonely anymore. For the first time in a long time, you enjoyed having a little stroll. Of course, you'd want to make friends with more people and you felt that a start had been made. With his support, you felt you were willing to take risks.
You turned to Sans to ask him if he liked the fireworks. The way he looked at you expressed so much tenderness that you thought you would melt, despite the freezing cold around you.
“i love the way the sparkle of the fireworks is reflected in your eyes” – he said.
You giggled and closed the distance between the two of you. You just wanted to give him a quick peck, but Sans seemingly had a different intention. He wrapped his arms around you and deepened the kiss. You closed your eyes and enjoyed this moment between the two of you.
With the last of the fireworks you opened your eyes. There was only an increasing wind nearby. But it no longer bothered you.
Looking up, you saw stars that reminded you of his gaze. Now he is always with you.

Aaaaand here I am with another "AtF" fic!
Fallen Star
~Third person’s POV~
Quiet whisper, two souls in the dark
Two fallen stars
One escaping all the deepest
Fears
And suppressing feeling
Of guilt
The second, hopeless
Broken
Tries to live a life
But inner voice
Tells it has no point
As all is preordained
By the force
Above…
“…you know, i've always been interested what the stars are like out there,” - Sans said, looking wearily at the glittering stones on the ceiling, - “what colors and sizes do they come in? do they shine brighter than the only “stars” we have here? how often do they fall?”
“Stars… not… fall. Meteors do,” - you answered. As always, only a part of the words reached their destination.
“meteors? like… pieces of cosmic dust or rock?” - Sans took out an old and worn card with a picture of a shooting star from his pocket.
“Yes”
“huh. maybe i’m not missin’ much, then. if you too can only have rocks and dust falling from above. the only difference is the size,” - he said thoughtfully, looking at the photo in his hands, - “…so it was just a pretty legend after all. well, at least there's one less false charm. better to know the bitter truth than the sweet lie, as they say.”
He tried to say the last part cheerfully, but you still caught a note of disappointment in his voice. You felt the urge to comfort him somehow.
“…what shines …sky …real stars.”
“hm, it's a good thing that at least something turned out to be real, i guess. could you describe at least roughly what they look like? even a couple of details would be enough for me.”
“They… different colors. But from… surface… all look… white dots.”
“are they all equally bright?”
“No”
“are there any constellations?”
“Yes and no”
“…how so?”
“They… illusions. …form figures from …Earth, but …reality …stars …them may be very far apart.”
“interesting. thanks for sharing all these with me.”
“You …welcome. It …least …can do for you.”
“…you’re alright, pal? you sound really dusky all of a sudden.”
“…I’m alright”
“are you sure? you're goin’ to burn a hole in the grass with your stare.”
In response, you only remained silent.
“i won't pressure you if ya don't wanna share it, but know that you can always talk to me. unfortunately, i won't be able to help you directly, and i never really had a way with words, but i’m a good listener.”
“It… not… big deal. Just… bunch… life problems. One thing after another. …getting discouraged. But …okay, that's …everybody lives.”
“is that why you've been spending so much time in the underground lately? even more than usual, i mean. and... hiding from everyone, like the time i accidently found you crying behind the waterfall near snowdin?”
“Yes”
“i don’t know what happens in your life, and maybe this will sound weird comin’ from me, but... escapism won't solve your problems. i don't want you to feel unwelcome here, but you can't hide in our world forever. sooner or later, you're going to have to face what scares ya. trust me, i know from my own experience.”
You flinch at his last sentence. Strangely enough, Sans didn't seem to notice.
“come on, i know you can get through. where's my determined buddy? even though you had your losses here, you never gave up. and even when you were cornered, you didn't lock yourself away.”
“That …the point. It …lot easier …be determined here. In reality, I'm not a hero. …don't think you would like me at all.”
“you don't have to be a hero to be loved. for example, look at me. i'm obviously not a hero either, but you like me for some reason. what, you wanna say it's different?” - he chuckles a bit – “even if you're not a hero, you can still try your best. your determination is still with you, even in your world, isn't it? you still have the resolve to change fate. if it helps you, remember in your time of need that i'm still rooting for you. use some of that passion you're finding new ways to just talk to me to take care of yourself, ok, buddy? can you do that for me? i'll keep my fingers crossed for you here.”
You nod and smile a little.
“heh. are you a star? cause your presence lights up my day.”
“Sans!”
“what? you don’t like my jokes anymore?” - he winked – “i’m sure you’ll be able to shine in your world as brightly as you do here.”
There was silence for a few minutes.
Suddenly it was as if a light breeze was blowing, playing with the grass. There were sounds, different from the usual whisper of echo-flowers. The crystals on the ceiling shone brighter, and far above, it was even as if something had flown overhead.
“i'd like to see the world outside someday,” - Sans said, a faraway look on his face – “to see something besides the painfully familiar landscapes. to see all those tempting things that films and books from the surface have been drawing for us for years. to see the light of day, the sky, the stars...”
Suddenly Sans came to himself due to one of the glowing stones falling from the ceiling onto his head. The rock bounced and landed on a photo card of a shooting star forgotten in the grass. There was no one around.
"huh. i surely get tired very easily these days."
Looking closer, Sans saw something in the light of the fallen stone that hadn't been in the photo before. There was an inscription written in a familiar handwriting, ‘If you want to see the stars and the world outside so much, you will. That’s the thing I can do for you.’
The stars above winked playfully.

I eventually decided to post this picture separately (even though it is my profile picture already) so that the blog would not be so empty for the time being. I want to start updating my blog regularly, don’t know for how long I’ll be able to do it. X)
In fact, this picture was drawn quite a long time ago, and in general it is a fragment of a larger picture, but I will not show you the rest. :P

So, I've been thinking for quite a long time about what kind of ijag fanart to draw, but couldn’t come up with any good ideas. And then it hit me. It seems that @voidchillz once mentioned that it would be cool to have IJAG! Sans and Anomaly sing “Take on me” by A-ha. Well, your requests have been heard! I thought, why not, besides, this song has been one of my favorites for a long time already. I know that this thing is far from perfect as I’m just a novice in art, but I still tried my best!

Livehack: if you turn on the song and scroll through the pictures at the same time, you will almost get an animatic!
Cutie marshmallow and his beloved anom-ally for @htsan (thank you again for your incredible fic!)
(In general, I thought that this clip not only fits Sansnomaly, but basically shows how we get attached to the characters. In the beginning, we plunge headlong into a fictional world, sometimes thanks to just one character. Then, when the plot ends, the fictional character moves into our world, living in our heart. And no one can take them away from us anymore.)
P.S. Here are portrait sprites of IJAG!Sans, in case anyone needs them:

I just finished reading “It’s just a game” by @htsan yesterday and some other works and it was… I don’t even know how to describe it. I was crying so hard the last several days. I think I wasn’t such a mess from the time I completed Asriel’s fight in original Undertale for the first time.
And I really liked the form of the fic, too! All this amazing pictures, windows of the game, crashed timelines and especially interpretation of reader being just a watcher in one of the chapters. Not to mention the whole “fake Sans killed true Sans” thing. Your work immediately became one of my favorites. Thank you for the unforgettable experience.
Definitely gotta write a fanfic about IJAG! Sans, too (if that’s ok, I mean). Or draw a fanart. Or both.

So, first of all I wanted to congratulate @zirkkun on the full release of Act to Flirt! You've done such a great job! This is definitely one of the best fan games I've ever played.
I also wrote a mini-fanfiction. Again.
Ahem. This one is a fantasy about what would have happened if Sans had somehow been able to see the player for the first time (let's assume that technology could have developed to such a level).
Cold comfort
It all started unexpectedly. Heh. And this is after I thought that nothing would surprise me anymore.
I first saw them in one of the rooms in Waterfall. In the one with the literal hole in the wall, it seems. They sat motionless on the floor and looked at the echo flowers. In truth, they could be confused with the local environment. They were almost transparent and emitted a barely discernible light. And... strangely enough, as I approached them, the air became colder. One would think that it was 'cause I was moving towards the water, but some gut feeling told me that this wasn't the case.
When I got close to them, I noticed their gaze. It turned out to be... empty. Instead of looking at the echo flowers, they seemed to be just staring at the distance.
I called their name. They startled, and then very slowly turned towards me.
“Sans?... How… can… you… see… me? ...No one… else…” I think they said. Even like this it’s hard to understand what they’re saying. When they talk, there is always some kind of interference.
“dunno, kid. why don't ya go ahead as usual? somethin’ happened?”
“…have …no reason. …I don’t… hurry. No one… waits… for me.”
I’m always looking forward to our meetings.
“in that case, do you mind talkin' a bit? since you have free time n'all. would be a shame to distract you.”
“Sure… have nothing… except… time… anyway.”
I have nothing left but you.
“good. i just wanted to ask you a few things, since i have the opportunity…”
Several timelines went about the same way. They did their usual business, always stopping by just to talk to me. Eh. If you can call it that. No one seemed to notice them, only their vessel.
I noticed that no matter the situation, they never smiled. I tried to ask them what happened, but they either remained silent or replied 'nothing'. And this cold air was always with them, too.
Even now, when we are in Snowdin, the air somehow feels colder around them.
“why… you… even… still around?”
“…what do you mean, pal?”
“…you …not …mad…? I’m… bad… person. …you just… tolerate… me?”
Oh. Is that what you were thinking all this time? What makes you feel that way? You are caring and passionate about a lotta things and people. Even... me, somehow. You make me feel alive and needed.
“what makes you think that? i don’t mind your company.”
“That… was… cold comfort…”
“makes sense. we’re in snowdin, after all. heh.”
They look more sullen than ever.
I wish I could express how much you mean to me.
“look. let me give you one piece of advice, buddy. you shouldn’t always trust the first impression. it can deceive you. now why don't we take a walk to the castle overlook. i remember you saying that this is your favorite place in the underground.”
As I was saying this, the air was getting warmer around them until it reached normal temperature.
They just smiled.

Just finished my little experiment. I felt like trying my hand at writing today, and my victim was AtF!Sans by @zirkkun again.
I wanted to write something reflecting his inner state during the player's long absence (in my interpretation), but it was harder than I thought.
Still, maybe someone will like it.
P.S. I apologize in advance if it turned out too OOC.
Was it a dream?
Ninety.
It's been almost ninety days since they were gone. Ninety days without dreams.
Sigh
Golden light shines softly through the tall windows of the palace, filling the entire room. There is a pleasant, faint scent of blossoming flowers in the air. The barely audible birdsong is soothing, even lulling. It’s a beautiful day outside. Why not take a bonely stroll today? Since there’s no body to walk with.
Heh.
There’s nothing to do, anyway.
Where are they now? What are they doing? They must be very busy if they haven't been back for so long…
Or they just forgot about me.
There's no point in dwelling on it. If they want to come, they'll come. Eventually. If they don't want to come, well... there's nothing to do about it. There’s nothing to do.
All the empty streets of New Home merge into one. Endless, lifeless, dull. The windows of the buildings stare indifferently from above.
The bright glow of lava and the quiet whispering of mechanisms are strangely unnerving.
What if something happened to them? Something bad, irreversible. The scariest part is that there's no way to know for sure.
When did I start caring so much? What is it about this human?
Maybe it's because they make being here a little less boring. Or maybe it's their weirdness, which is even cute. Or maybe…
No. That’s definitely not it.
Streams of water are bubbling and crashing to the ground. There are ripped conversations of echo-flowers everywhere. Everything, from luminescent stones to water, is radiant to the point it hurts.
