“A date?” Isabel couldn’t help but feel a little flabbergasted for a moment, before writing it off. The last couple of birthdays had been solemn ones and she saw no real reason that the next one might be any different. Though she did blush when she realized she’d been asked for her name - and at the compliment. “Isabel, Miss. Isabel Hai Phan.”
How werewolfy am I smelling? She’d already realized the woman was supernatural - there was no way she was human carrying a basket so large. But she hadn’t been sure of precisely what. The shifter giggled, shaking her head for a moment. “I can’t really tell like this. I’d change but,” she pointed at her collar and shrugged. “But the cats at the cafe are used to all kinds of supers? It takes the new ones a little bit to adjust but we don’t have any right now.”
.
“Isabel,” Cassie repeated, committing the name to memory. “A lovely name, beautiful as the girl it belongs to,” she said, still grinning, and if she was laying it on a bit thick, well--it was just that the girl was so very pretty when she blushed, and anyway, she didn’t seem bothered by Cassie flirting.
Isabel’s giggling brought an answering laugh out of Cassie, pleased to have inspired such a sweet sound. “Well, that’s no fun,” she said, reaching out to run a finger over the collar. It didn’t suit her, she thought--the dark leather was too harsh for Isabel, who, as far as Cassie could tell, was all softness. “You’re a shifter of some kind then?” She didn’t smell like a werewolf, but while Cassie was not entirely unfamiliar with other supernaturals, she could not claim any skill at telling their various scents apart--not yet, at least. “I’d let you, if I could. Is that a thing they’ll let me do?” This question, apparently, did not necessarily need an answer, because she kept talking immediately.
“Lead the way then, Isabel! Nothing this birthday girl loves more than pussy, so let’s go pet some cats! Oh--I almost forgot!” With no small amount of delight, she pointed the spring-loaded tube in her hands towards the sky and opened it, a shower of rainbow colored glitter exploding over them and raining down. She grinned at the way the little flakes caught in Isabel’s hair, reached out a hand to swipe away one that was dangerously close to getting in her eye. “There. Now we look ready to celebrate.”

owen-jackson:
“Thank you, thank you.” Jackson grinned cheekily with a little bow that almost caused a few of the puffs to fall off his tray that were snatched just in time by the woman. Jackson found himself chuckling as he watched the stranger. “Me? Pft, noooo, I am the picture of professionalism.” His voice was thick with cheerful sarcasm as he straightened his shoulders a little, though it did little to make him look any less drunk.
The grin on his face spread when her arm linked with his, and he felt this arrangement was going to be much better with the new mistress occupying him, especially if she was going to keep offering him drinks. “Gladly,” He said, taking the drink and sipping it back only to spot the guard who’d cut him off earlier glaring at him. Jackson gave a cocky smirk and a nod, raising his glass slightly before turning back to the woman. “Jackson,” He says, shifting the tray to offer her another hors d'oeuvre. “What about you, gorgeous? You got a name?”
.
She snorted at his straightened shoulders, immediately pleased with her choice to steal this particular slave away for a while. He was funny. Cassie liked funny almost as much as she liked crab puffs--and he certainly seemed to like alcohol, which Cassie had plenty of access to, and he did not, judging by the way he saluted a passing guard with her glass. It was a match made in garden party heaven, as far as she was concerned.
“Gorgeous!” she crowed with a laugh, plucking another crab puff from the tray. “I like you. You deserve more drinks,” she told him playfully, before dropping into an awkward attempt at a curtsy, made graceless by the fact that she was unwilling to detach from him and his tray of snacks. “Castilia Hayes,” she declared, putting on the poshest accent she could manage, and drawing out her full name regally--only to immediately ruin the illusion of stateliness by stuffing a crab puff in her mouth and winking at him. “Call me Cassie.”

Wilder smiled when she finally took the water back, and licked his lips with a sigh. When he was able to take a long drag from her pen he groaned in satisfaction before smiling at her and exhaling slowly. “Good girl,” he praised her softly. “Listen, Love, I know you’re worried about me, but don’t worry, they wouldn’t actually let anything happen to the professors here. There’s a rule about no long term health stuff, they wouldn’t let anything actually lasting happen,” he assured her with a smile. “So I’ll be okay after this. I promise Baby,”
When she told him what else she’d brought he thought about it before he nodded. “Broth first, then Gatorade,” he said decidedly. “What kind of broth did you bring? Tui broth?” he teased, happy to tease his daughter to try and make her feel more comfortable about being here, trying to make sure she didn’t focus too hard on what was happening to him, and instead make her smile. That was his one goal- to make her smile.
.
Cassie’s expression was doubtful as she listened to his reassurances, her gaze shifting over the bodies chained in the quad and then quickly back to him. It was hard not to end up comfortable with nudity--your own and others--as a werewolf, but the people in this courtyard had not signed up to be seen by her, and she did not want to look more than she had to. Wilder’s nudity, at least, was very familiar, even outside of shifting.
“Yeah, well, I don’t like them doing short term stuff to you, either,” she grumbled as she bent to retrieve the container of broth. His teasing won a hint of a smile, lips quirking up just a little--it was obvious she was trying to fight a proper smile, her father’s familiar hatred of her beloved bird comforting in this very unfamiliar moment. “No,” she said, rewarding him with the sort of dramatic eye-roll she would have given as a teenager, now played up for laughs. “His Highness is back at home, thank you very much. The broth is chicken and dill.” It was one of her favorite soups to make; she’d made a proper batch, waiting for him at home, packed with chicken and veggies and rice--but for now, just the broth would do.
She stood on her toes to better offer him a sip, tried to meet his eyes with a smile--but it faltered, and she found herself looking at the spoon in her hand instead. “I’m sorry,” she said quietly. “I should have found somewhere better for us. I didn’t know--I’m sorry, papa.”

@clementineastoria:
Clem had gotten in late last night and after spending time settling in this morning, they wanted to head out on the town. They gathered up their arting bag and decided to head to the beach to try and sketch some scenery. They bumped into someone coming out of the dorms, " I'm so sorry, "
Cassie had just stood up from tying her skates when someone bumped into her. It was only years of practice and a little bit of supernatural agility that kept her from falling; she rolled a few inches instead, spun in a slightly graceless circle as she caught her balance once more. She was already laughing when they apologized, shaking her head and waving it off with one hand.
“Nah, ‘s alright,” she assured, holding her arms out and twirling on one roller-skate, intentionally this time, to show she was fine. “No harm done. Trust me, I’ve been knocked around worse than that.”

slavexisabel:
“Um, July 7,” she almost automatically returned, not much thought given to the admission. It wasn’t when birthdays were traditionally celebrated in her culture but they often had, back at the estate. At least between her and Carmen. It was special for the two of them, the first day they’d ever ‘officially’ met. It didn’t even occur to Isabel that the other woman was flirting with her, not that she’d ever been great at understanding when such a thing was happening. Even two years on the island and it was difficult to understand when people were expressing interest unless they just came out and said it. Or kissed her.
Isabel’s little sojourn was interrupted when the birthday girl caught her attention again, talking about glitter bombing them both. “You’d … you want to do that? Though I don’t know about an extra present.” What was she supposed to get for a stranger she didn’t really know?
At least her other request she could meet, bringing the Mistress to a place she loved on the island. “There’s an animal shelter here, Friends of the Phoenix? Oh! Or I could take you to the cat cafe? I work there most days! Not today, but the cats are all very sweet.”
“July 7,” Cassie repeated, committing the date to memory. “It’s a date,” she added with a wink, though of course she wouldn’t hold the girl to the offer. Cassie would certainly remember to send her something, at the very least, when they day came.
“No, no, I’m sorry--the extra present is your name, sweetheart,” she assured with a laugh, laying a hand on the girl’s arm. “Best gift in the world, a pretty girl’s name and a new friend.” Though the thought of simply running around the island, demanding that strangers buy her things was a funny one--she’d have made a note to do it next year, if only she wouldn’t feel so guilty about it with the added authority that being a mistress gave her.
“Both of those sound fantastic,” Cassie said truthfully. “Though--how do the cafe cats feel about dogs?” She made a show of leaning over to sniff her own shoulder, held out a hand towards her companion to sniff. “How werewolfy am I smelling? You think they’ll pick it up and be scared?”

Charlotte wasn’t convinced about her answer. She could tell that she wasn’t really fine and who would be after something like this anyway? She didn’t want to push it so she let it go. “I decided it would be the best if I cut them off my life.” she admitted. Charlotte loved her parents dearly and she always will but after they discovered that she also liked girls, everything went downhill. “They couldn’t accept who I really am and kept pressuring me to change. I realized after a while that there was no way to change their mind, to open their mind, so I decided to move away.” she explained. “After that night, I should’ve reached out to you. I’m so sorry about everything that happened.”
.
“Oh.” For a moment it was the only answer she had, her heart aching for Charlie, the sour sting of guilt in her gut--because she should have reached out, not poor Charlotte. Cassie had lived much of her life with the fear of her mother finding out who she truly was and not accepting it--but unlike Charlotte, Cassie had Wilder. She never had to fear being rejected by her parents entirely. The weight of her mother’s expectations was heavy, but she had always had a place to set it down with her father. Still, she’d let her own fear of discovery chase her away from Charlotte after that night. She ought to have been a friend, at least.
“No, Charlie, I--I’m sorry. God, that’s fucking shit.” She felt unusually awkward, uncomfortable in her skin; she didn’t know what to do with her hands. They reached for Charlotte, as if to give her a hug, then were shoved into her pockets. “I’m the one who should’ve reached out, y’know? Like, I just abandoned you, cause I was scared. It was fucked.”

fire-starterdylan:
Dylan paused, with a happy smirk, before giving a nod. “Okay,” was all he said, followed by a little chuckle. Still didn’t quite answer what that meant, but he’d look it up later. Sounded like something made up from Urban Dictionary. He watched her, curious about who she was, how carefree and confident she was in this environment. He was almost a little jealous - his head was always on a swivel when he was out in public, he couldn’t help it. “Do they have to be a lady?” he asked, giving her a grin and a wink. Dylan toasted to her as well, taking another small sip - always a little at a time, nothing to get himself sloppy. “Yeah, weird is probably putting it lightly,” he snorted. “But I’ll gladly buy into it for the night if that’s what you want?”
.
The wink made her laugh, eyebrows raising at him over her beer. Strictly speaking, no, it did not have to be a lady. Cassie had no interest in dating men, but a pick up in a bar did not mean a date. Leaning towards him with a grin, she offered a conspiratorial, “Not if you play your cards right, baby,” and a wink of her own. She was laughing as she leaned back out of his space, an eyebrow raised again at the last comment. “Oh yeah? What, you wanna call me mistress?” she asked playfully. It was a strange idea. She wasn’t sure how she’d feel about it in practice, but it was certainly amusing. She spun on her stool, looking out at the dance floor and then back at him. “You dance?”

Dom just rolled his eyes as she spoke, as if everything she was saying was going in one ear and right out the other. “Blah blah blah. You’ll see, when I’m stronger than you. You’ll see that I’m strong enough to survive any transformation. I’ve been through more beatings then you’d ever know, I know how to handle pain” he scoffed “And it doesn’t matter if I die. Like you said, I’m nothing” he hissed before letting out a little grunt as he was pushed away
“All that temper and you’re apologizing now? And I’m the weak one here” he chuckled a little as he shook his head, trying to numb the pain on his scalp where his hair was pulled
Yes. Yes, he was still the weak one, Cassie thought. It took strength to apologize; it took strength to admit when you’d done wrong--and she had done wrong. His continued insistence that he would be strong enough one day to take over this island and make her sorry suddenly just seemed sad to her--a desperate dream to give him comfort. She didn’t know if he truly believed it possible, but if he did, that seemed sadder still. Even if he managed to survive being turned into something, even if he gathered his little army... They would all end up right back here. Whether there had truly been a rebellion at the garden party or not--and she suspected it was just a convenient cover story--the headmaster had shown in no uncertain terms how easy such a thing would be for him to subdue.
Her stomach roiled, the potato chips she’d eaten threatening to come back up. She could not stop thinking of how disappointed Wilder was going to be. She had to get out of here before she threw up at this slave’s feet and made everything that much worse.
“You’re probably right,” she said, no real conviction behind the words--clearly she was just humoring him. “You’ll show me how wrong I am one day. I have to go. I’m so sorry.”
And with that, she turned on her heel and ran.

Dom was left smirking devilishly as he watched the woman start to lose her temper, but that smile faded when he felt the knee hit his crotch sending a jolt of pain through him. He let out a loud grunt in pain before his hair was grabbed forcing him down. “You think I don’t know I’m nothing? That’s why I don’t care” he hissed before shooting the woman a glare “Bite me? I don’t want to be a werewolf. There are stronger things I could be” he chuckled breathlessly “I could survive any transformation. I’m stronger then I look…Not all strength is psychical”
.
“You know nothing,” she snarled again, head spinning with the force of her anger. It was a relief to sink into it--to stop thinking about her father, and how powerless she was to help him. She was desperate to hold onto it, to let her fury burn everything else away. Stronger things he could be! She could tear his head off with her bare hands if she wanted to. “The fact that you think you can survive anything is proof of it. Do you know how many people die trying to become wolves? To become vampires? Reapers? There are only so many species that a human can become, and all of them come with a risk of just ending up fucking dead. Dead and gone and buried, permanently. Sometimes strength is knowing when you’re fucking beat.”
That was a lesson she’d learned from her father--her father, who had the strength this human so desperately wanted--and who was in chains, because he would not wield it cruelly.
All at once the anger went out of her. Her father. This was not how Wilder had raised her. Oh god, he’d be so disappointed. Suddenly sick to her stomach, she released the human, shoving him away from her none too gently, letting the chains keep him upright. “I’m sorry,” she said. “I--fuck.”

charlietaylcr:
It has been a while since she last saw Cassie. She has been thinking about her a lot since the last time she have seen her, wondering if she was alright. Even if their friendship ended in an awkward way, she still cared a lot about her. Charlie had a lot of regrets about not fighting hard enough to keep her around. Charlie shook her head at her question, “No-no I wasn’t there.” she reassured her. “I heard all kind of awful stuff about what happened, are you okay?” she asked worried. She has seen some people injuries and she couldn’t imagine of what they have been through.
A breath of relief escaped her at the assurance that Charlotte had missed the weekend’s events--things had been tense when they’d parted ways, perhaps, but Cassie could not stomach the idea of Charlie in chains. Of course, the relief only lasted a moment, because Charlie was asking if she was alright, and of course she’d heard about what happened, of course she had. Shame tied Cassie’s stomach into knots as she tried to decide how to answer. She shook her head, nodded, shrugged, all in quick succession. “I’m--fine.” Physically, at least. Physically she was fine, because she had not been here long enough to earn the chains. Emotionally? That was a different story. “I can’t believe you’re here. And you’re--” her eyes couldn’t stop moving to the collar. “Your parents wouldn’t pay?”

grayxstratford:
Gray couldn’t begin to count the number of times she’d been to this sort of thing, and if she was honest with herself, she wasn’t even sure why she had come to this one. Maybe it was just being new, jumping into the culture of her new home with both feet. That must have been it, and she did like any excuse to get dressed up of course, but when she got there and saw her sister in the distance, she grabbed a cocktail and kept her distance. She was awkward, she didn’t know why she was feeling so awkward- maybe it was the dress, she wasn’t entirely comfortable in this dress, maybe she should have worn something different, but it didn’t matter, she was here, and she was going to make it through the garden party.
That was the only goal she had, get through this until she could go home. That is of course until she felt a tap on the back of her hat. She turned and upon seeing no one there she frowned and turned back before seeing the girl she’d met a little while ago on her birthday. The girl who had sent her the gourmet marshmallows for her own birthday.
She couldn’t help but smile slightly at the greeting, Gray usually hated nicknamed, but she didn’t mind this girl giving her one. “Hello yourself,” she said. “Honestly, you been to one garden party, you’ve been to them all,” she shrugged as she sipped her drink. “What about you?” she asked looking down at the other girl’s outfit, it was very colorful and Gray couldn’t help but smile lightly at the quirky outfit. “You look nice as well,” she added as she met Cassie’s eye again.
“You go to a lot of garden parties?” Cassie asked, an eyebrow raised, the question half teasing and half genuine curiosity. She did not know what to make of Gray, still in that early stage of acquaintance where each new piece of information was a surprise and a delight. A woman who did not eat sweets, but had a weakness for marshmallows; a woman who was familiar with garden parties.
The compliment made her grin, and she did a little turn on her heel to show off the suit, posing as if she was on a runway--all 5′5 of her--before the playful act cracked with a laugh. “Thanks. The suit’s kind of a moment, right? Like--” She struck another pose with a laugh, hands on her hips to push the jacket back and reveal her bare midriff, clearly amused with herself. “I don’t have a little hat though. That’s a nice touch. And to answer your question, I’m having a good time. I have heartily indulged in mimosas, and--” a pause, a hand on Gray’s arm to turn her so that she could point out a particular slave with a tray. “That man has crab puffs. Impeccable, truly.”

freyalund:
Whether the woman came to command or pity her was irrelevant. This was precisely why she had precisely cut her off when she was not more than half a sentence in. Freya needed to let them know that she was not your typical slave; and them included both her and the remainder of the collar-less population. But deep down, the blonde was glad that the Mistress did not make much of a fuss. Most of the heads turned away again as they realized there was not much to see. She looked at the other expectantly, her expression only fading as she was guided away from her original spot.
“Tray is over there”, she said more quietly now and pointed at the bar. “Told a Master to hold it for me. Guess he got sick of it and left it at the counter” There were still some glasses left on it. Most people probably assumed that a slave left it there for a refill. “I want to be conscious for whatever happens tonight”, she admitted then, lips twitching upwards only slightly. “But I can’t deny I should have taken some. You shouldn’t give me ideas”
.
“You got a master to hold your tray and then left?” Cassie asked, an eyebrow raising as her gaze followed the woman’s pointed finger. It seemed unlikely--what poor sap would actually take the tray?--but there was the abandoned tray, just where she was pointing. “Huh,” Cassie said, very intelligently, and then: “Good for you. Ballsy.”
She couldn’t deny she was pleased to have earned even that slight twitch of the slave’s lips. It was clear already that this one had attitude; earning her genuine amusement was probably a feat to be proud of. Her own lips turned up in a sly smile in answer, arms held out at her sides in a shrug. “What can I say, I’m full of good ideas. Like, say--if you go get that tray refilled with whatever non-alcoholic beverage you desire, at my request, then we can go make the most of them.”
