Fandom Problem #7042:

Not really response nor confession, more like a general view on "appropriation". The braid debate is kinda like the "beads, feathers, leathers, and other nature symbolic." Aka "This entire concept belongs to group X!! Only group X has a say about everything involving these very vague and broad ideas." No no that's not how it works, some of these are literally just universal things. People several thousands of years ago saw something pretty, or figured out something neat, and they started doing that. Braids to keep hair out of the way and healthy. Beads and feathers to decorate clothes and hair. Etc, yeah there are "specific" ways some cultures do or did something, but these specifics to their way of doing it, doesn't mean they get a complete claim over the entire genre of that art form. Just like all Slavic people cannot claim drawing/painting/embroidering pretty flowers of objects and clothes. Just like East-Asians can't claim all art involving jade, and certain gems. Just like varying native populations can't blanket claim everything involving the use of bones, beads, feathers, and leathers. Just like that, no group can claim a vague concept such as just "braids." Yes these groups can claim a VERY specific aesthetics, design choices, and intent, purpose and use, and certain methods of production, they can't just claim the entire "vague" idea of these things. These are just such embarrassingly ignorance based problems, because it just shows a lack of even just basic historical knowledge and understanding. And also makes it blatantly obvious that the people involved don't even understand the culture they're trying to "protect", instead just wanting to foam at the mouth and be angry about something they clearly don't actually respect nor understand.

Consumption and Betrayal sketches!

I love drawing den because she's so joyous, floppy, and complicated. Everytime I sketch her, she's a little bit different as I try to figure out her anatomy...

Whenever I can't think of anything to draw, I find I always default to Witch 😸

The way I see it, she's really simple (right up to the path leading to Thorn) because her mindset is a half-way point.

At the moment it's unsustainable, but both things she turns into, Wild and Thorn, are far more complicated and enlightened.

We can either confirm her worldview, die pettily with her, or prove her worldview wrong and give her an opportunity to change it.
