A mock-up of a book for the show Scavengers Reign that I worked on a couple of months ago.
Would buy an artbook immediately. Apparently the creators are looking at getting one published. Hopefully that happens!
Created in Illustrator, Photoshop, and Blender.

Reading some of the articles Noelle has shared after the drop of Season 5 really opened my eyes to how difficult it must’ve been to make the show as gay as it was. I thought Dreamworks was just being super cool with everything, but she talked about how she really had to take her time with it; doing her best to be super convincing, being careful in picking the right times/vibe to meet with the execs, and not reveal all of what she wanted to be portrayed on screen all at once. How the catradora endgame she wanted was revealed to the exces later on, and how she broke down and cried when it was approved. It just goes to show what happens when actual LGBT folk run a show – they’ll actually fight for that representation! AND make sure it is good representation!
(I mean, would a cis-hetero have fought/pushed as hard for that rep? Or would they have just shrugged and been like “welp, it is what it is” and moved on? Previous shows have paved the way for She-Ra, but Noelle really pushed and pushed what they could show on screen)
Noelle also did a great job of making the representation feel normal. I’m tired of gay/queer characters having their gayness/queerness be their only defining characteristic/personality or dying off in the end, and She-Ra just set the bar extremely high for every future show.

#i also added a couple lines to emphasize how well - as i say - i really feel like fanon has a lot more nuance about the relationship and#characters of catra and adora than the show does. especially in the transition from s4 to s5#like catra has all these issues of agency in s1-s4 that are basically written out to make her a selfless adora stan#and adora has these complicated feelings for catra that are both positive and negative and she knows she's manipulative on some level but#she also knows they both have sincere feelings for one another and thats all but gone in place of Yearning and brief apologies#i might write a separate post about how s4 sets up adora questioning her role and giving up she-ra which s5 then totally fails to#deliver on in any meaningful way and instead dumbs down into reminding her she can have a life after doing her duty dlkfjkjl
ok so. i have a confession of sorts. as much as she-ra/spop was a mixed bag for me... i do kinda stan and find myself emotionally affected by the fanon version that’s endured past it.
the fandom has a very cool interpretation where, for instance, adora has a well-written existential crisis and fear of living without purpose in a way every teenager can relate to yet connects well to her history of abuse, instead of the little puddle of nothing we got in canon. i see these gifsets outside the show itself followed by these stan affect-essays and i'm like. yup. that Hits. enough so that i almost forget canon itself, because the must more complex and nuanced fanon just straight up makes it better. in the show, there's a lot of things that really don't hit - but are actively better in a 30 second stan twitter clip with commentary.
like spop stans are intense in their very particular read where the utena parallels are totally justified in this grand, complicated story where love sets you free from abuse and destiny and you just love each other despite your flaws and like. damn. wish canon was half as good at expressing those ideas, or had half the nuance. to be clear, i think some of that is the intent in canon, i just don't think its expressed half as well as fanon does, nor is the relationship of adora and catra really handled with the nuance it deserves. i hope some of y’all get hired as staff writers if there’s ever a movie.
so yeah, fanon > canon in this very rare case, and i almost never think that. i tend to be frustrated over fanon misinterpreting canon, but here, while that's kinda true, its... in a good way? so its kinda cool, because fandom tends to endure longer than shows.

I have many thoughts head full
The homoeroticism of catra and adora I physically cannot handle this
Adora’s loose hair
Glimmer is..... surprisingly small? And off to the side? That just surprised me because she’s always been such a big player and practically the second main character behind catra & adora and also she’s like the Queen and it’s just odd to me that she’s so small and off to the side
Meanwhile Bow and Scorpia are posititioned as if they are the season’s second biggest players, bow beneath adora and scorpia beneath catra and I feel like that means something
Also why is mermista so far away and not brandishing a weapon? She’s like the only one not posed to attack
It’s nice that Spinerella and Nessatossa are so front and center I just like that
The rest of the gange looks pretty standard tho tbh
Like is it just me or does it look like adora’s been captured and her hands are tied behind her back? Again with the homoeroticism
Also the colors on this are gorgeous and really set the mood
I just wanna day for the record that the ship in the distance looks like a witches hat

Ok guys, so hear me out:
We know that, as part of Entrapta’s autistic traits, she doesn’t use her hands too much to touch people directly; most of the times, she preffers to use her hair instead.
In Hordak’s case (the character she has the most developed relationship with) she begins to touch him on season 3, when she builds him an armor to improve his quality of life. It’s noticeable she feels comfortable touching him with her hair mostly. She does this on several occasions:
Except when she grabbed him by the arms and pinned him against the vitrine.
Now, skipping to season 5, where they meet again after a very long time of being apart, we see that the contact between them is more direct. She touches him with her gloved hands. Their first touch is very subtle, but meaningful: this is the first time Hordak and Entrapta touch each other’s hands.
At the beginning he doesn’t recognize her, but one good look at her face brings back memories and he holds the LUVD crystal, as he desperately asks Entrapta: “What have you done to me?” (Oh, the romantic implications of this phrase alone). He shows her the crystal and she gently places her hand over his.
“You do remember me. I knew you would,” she says. It’s a brief but intimate moment.
And finally, the next time we see them touching each other (and sadly the last one in the show, as this is the finale) is when Hordak is brought back by Adora from the control of Horde Prime. He remembers everything, he is Hordak again.
Entrapta launches herself directly to his arms and hugs him. It’s a beautiful spinning hug I’m sure we all Entrapdak shippers wanted to see. And this is the first time they hug! Hordak is a little off-balance since he didn’t expect it, but we can tell he’s happy!
And then, we see Entrapta holding Hordak by his arm as they’re chatting happily.
We can tell she’s so happy to finally be with him again that she won’t let him go, and he seems content with it for sure! It’s a detail I’m sure the Crew-Ra took into account to tell their story. In this series, body language is an essential part of the narrative; especially in Entrapta’s case.
