Kabu met Vani on her first journey (Galar)!! In the first fight Kabu was amazed at Vani's talent as Pokemon trainer, as he saw himself reflected in her when he was young. He began to admire her and in the end they ended up being good friends and Kabu even gave the young woman advice to improve in battles!

Currently (In my fan-story) Kabu has retired from being Gym Leader and another person is replacing him, now he has decided to be Vani's personal trainer and adventure companion through different regions starting with Unova!
