As a C!Punz roleplayer and someone who thinks about this mercenary a lot, I agree with this, and I'll be saving this for future reference :)

I was wondering if you have any tips on how to write c!Punz? Or like c!Drunz? Like how the character is and all, I think c!Punz is someone I struggle with the most when writing characters. If you have any tips I'd appreciate it! :]

Of course!!

One of the most common things I see with people writing Punz is that they take away his autonomy completely in favor of Dream’s. But you have to remember, they’re partners and value each other on equal level. Even if Dream might think that he’s still a bit above Punz, they’re still equals. So don’t be afraid to give him different opinions or goals.

In fact, in canon, Punz was the one who seemed to push Dream into wanting certain things. In the vault when Tommy was asking what Dream wanted or if he was lonely, Punz wasn’t really letting Dream answer. “IM his friend.”

Punz is a level headed character. He tends to stay very cool in the face of conflict.

I’ve seen a lot of people also write him off as whiny or.. again, dependent on Dream. There’s this one fic (which I DO love and have read multiple times) but they TALK about how strong and cool Punz is, but every time Punz is actually in a situation, he’s crying or waiting for Dream to come save him.

So, don’t be afraid to SHOW he’s collected.

Especially cause Dream tends to be the more hotheaded of the two. I tend to use Punz to balance Dream.

I’ve also spent a lot of time watching the actual streamer, and he’s just.. very flat. He doesn’t show his emotions as easily, he’s hard to read. And that carries over into his character.

Punz shouldn’t be showing ranges of emotion unless it’s an extreme emotion. He’s a mercenary, he has to be cold hearted.

Where Dream might be yelling threats at a child, Punz is by his side, emotionless.

He makes for a good scary dog.

White Noise was an extreme of his character. BUT, if he HAD betrayed Dream in the vault, he likely would have been just as cold in the beginning.

He sets a goal in mind and works towards it.

And what happened in White Noise is that he wasn’t expecting to actually feel bad for Dream, much less care for him.

Was watching some Punz clips and a few of them featured him saying ‘give me that crown!’. So it inspired me to draw him with a crown! (also yes that’s Tommy in the corner lol)

Could you draw my Dream design? And yes, I glued a piece of paper on a spot where I messed up the colouring lol. He wears a sandy tunic underneath his green sweater and has wings btw

I totally feel the pain in messing up a page. He reads so much like a cartoon character like I can totally imagine him in a show!

I hope this is adequate as how I read him. His little gap in the tooth is adorable!
