Turbans//Experimenting with different materials.
I quite like the idea of a head dress, however I feel the accessory paired with the casual environment of the set and the heavy makeup will be too much for the kind of atmosphere I aim to create.
I am aiming to create a chilled and relaxed environment where the character feels safe enough to experiment with himself to discover his comfort zone without the pressure of the outside world. The set will be ill lit with pools of darkness surrounding the round around the bed, being the centre focus.
Dressing the character up too much would stimulate the impressed he is self realised and confident in his appearane, where as the character (Henry) is not at this stage yet in the progression of his gender realisation.
So I’m ditching the turban.
I may keep the wig cap.

Experimenting with the Lighting Rig
The lighting rig is made up of several different types of lights including; LEDs dimmers and TVL’s (bulbs). The ones I am interested in are the coloured LEDs as they will be able to aid a change of emotion and atmosphere on set. The joining of blue and pink LEDs is interesting as they colours symbolises the 2 genders. I would like to use both colours to show how the gender of Henry is fluid, and represents neither one or the other, whilst in a performace environment.

Finding a Model
Josh Calvert
Toby Gibson
Josh Smith
Paul Taylor
Christian Longstaff
Ben Wardle
Out of this selection of models I am most drawn to Ben’s appereance. He also best fits the profile I am looking for in regards to the character of Henry. A younger profile will be more interesting when creating the character of Henry as mid to late teens are known to be experimental with their appereance as this is a time where people are known to define their selfs.

Initial set designs
Now i have found a location to film I have found it a lot easier to design the set as I have a clear image of the space in which the set will be built.

Assessing studio space
I have to find an area where I can shoot the footage which will be shown at the exhibition. The locations needs to have different lighting options, black out, privacy, space and the location needs to be available when both the model/actor and myself are.
The black box studio matched these demands. It is a great space with a mom machine and various different lighting rigs controlled from a separate room. The room has an AC and heating so the rooms temperature can be control to keep the model/actor comfortable. The room is also black out so when taking portrait shots the background blends out leaving the foreground the main focus. This was also the only room I could find on short notice that was available.
An advantage to this studio is it lighting rigs. On the day of shooting I will be able to experiment with different tones of colour and mood to see which best suits the scene, which will better the performance and end result.

Sourcing Scenery
Today I have been searching round skips/tip yards/used furniture shops and charity shops in search materials i can use to build a set.
So far I have been able to find 1X double mattress and 2X old box televisions (broken?) and 1X VHS player (broken?) from Davids Furniture Centre. I’m not so keen on the patten on the mattress but I intend to cover this with a fitted sheet and layers of other white/cream/ivory bed sheets.

Exhibition design
For the exhibition, I am going to create a theatre set influenced by Polly Stenham’s The Face, featuring playback video moments from the character ‘Henry’.
I am focusing on scraping the last scene from the play by interpreting how Henry would behave days/months/years after the actions of the scene before the last. How has he reacted to trans influences forced upon him by his mother Martha? Is henry comfortable, and is he able to relax in a solo environment?
These are the questions I intend to answer by recording a performance piece which will later be played in various mini clip back, that will then be displayed around/on top of/inside the original set where the performance took place.

Final look - Exploring COLOUR PALETTE
I have already design and developed a pink toned palette to work with for the potential makeup for the character Henry. With further exploration, I have become aware that the bright and fun pink toned look doesn't necessarily connect with the character’s darker personality. Having noticed this I have marked a couple of colours, such as: maroons, hunter and emerald greens that would better suit the traits of the character (lonely, addict, gender confused) therefore I don't necessarily want to associate the character with a gender identifying colour such pink as i want to keep the characters genre fluid.
