This is my main/personal tumblr. I post all kinds of things here. I usually forget that tags exist. Asexual, grey/aro. ADHD-C. Early 30's. Software developer by day (and sometimes by night), writer, digital artist. Attempts at traditional art may vary. Obsessed with Star Trek and Doctor Who. I post about those obsessions over at @cannonhead.

At the gate for my flight home from visiting friends and there's a woman here with a service Shiba Inu. No pics because he has a Do Not Disturb vest and taking pics of strangers is illegal but I need to stress how ON DUTY this animal is. Ears up. Eyes doing Lazer scans of everything. Examining everyone who passes within 10ft like a security guard. Ass planted on her feet. I have never seen a dog with such intense chivalric guardian energy before. He has tiny eyebrows and they are FURROWED with concentration.

Keyboard because I can type without looking and it's much faster. I can also easily catch and correct typos as they happen.
I do use swipe to type on my phone, have for years and years. It's pretty good speed-wise and I do occasionally do some writing using my phone keyboard, but it's more because my phone is always with me and I don't have to have a flat surface to put a keyboard on.
I do HATE certain laptop keyboards though. I was trying to use my laptop to work on a project last night, and ohhhhh I'd forgotten how much I hate that keyboard. It was just writing code (which is much fewer keystrokes, thanks to IntelliSense, compared to writing in full English words) but I was constantly hitting the wrong keys and I had to hold my hands in such a weird position. Ugh.

I wonder if there was any IRL production reason for this - like they had to create this outfit at the last minute and already had a pattern made for him for the uniform or something, so just made it out of different fabric and added trim lol

I've used Open Office and Libre Office for quite a while now.
I have a few miscellaneous thoughts.
Open Office is out of date for sure. But, if for some reason you're used to word processor GUIs before Word 2007 and the "ribbon" came about, it's got a very familiar user interface to that.
Years ago now, when I was in school, I found an "Open Office for Android" app that literally created a desktop environment and ran Open Office inside it. Worked great on my 10 inch tablet, and it had a feature to auto-sync the files to Dropbox on save. Very handy and I loved using it.
In the comments, I saw that Libre Office has an actual app: https://www.libreoffice.org/download/android-and-ios ... I downloaded it and I'm definitely going to be trying it out.
In school, I got used to (indoctrinated haha) the MS Office interface, ribbon, etc. In addition to class, while I was a student and employee, I got to use MS Office for free.
I have a Linux desktop and a Windows laptop now. I discovered there's another office suite, WPS Office, that's free (costs no money) on Linux but not open source. It's available on Linux, Windows, and they have an android app. It does have a subscription cost for Windows and Android, but it's something like $5 or $10 a month maybe - and I think that's just for certain features, like exporting to PDF? It has the same ribbon interface as Word.
I use it when I'm doing things with shapes, images, etc, graphically laying things out, and will be going back and forth between Word and WPS Office or sharing the files. I find that in that case, Libre Office doesn't work quite as well - things shift around slightly or don't display the same, etc. WPS Office has no problem with that.
PSA: Don't use Open Office
I keep seeing people recommending Open Office as an alternative to Word, and uh... look, it is, technically, an open source alternative to Word. And it can do a lot of what Word can, genuinely! But it is also an abandoned project that hasn't been updated in nine years, and there's an active fork of it which is still receiving updates, and that fork is called LibreOffice, and it's fantastic.
Seriously, if you think that your choices are either "grit your teeth and pay Microsoft for a subscription" or "support free software but have a kind of subpar office suite experience", I guarantee that it's because you're working with outdated information, or outdated software. Most people I know who have used the latest version of LibreOffice prefer it to Word. I even know a handful of people who prefer it to Scrivener.
Open Office was the original project, and so it has the most name recognition, and as far as I can tell, that's really the only reason people are still recommending it. It's kind of like if people were saying "hey, the iPhone 14 isn't your only smart phone option!" but then were only ever recommending the Samsung Galaxy S5 as an alternative. LibreOffice is literally a version of the same exact program as Open Office that's just newer and better – please don't get locked into using a worse tool just because the updated version of the program has a different name!
