10 Easy and Unusual Steps to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint and Help End Climate Change!
Welcome to my first blog, combating climate change is my passion so thank you for taking the time to read my blog post. I am in no means the perfect writer, so I apologise in advance for all of the atrocious grammar mistakes below.
Scientists have told us that greenhouse gas emissions are the main cause of climate change and that we have approximately 10 years left before a domino effect starts that we cannot stop. Therefor keeping our emissions low is vital, so that we can save the planet’s future. Here are 10 less commonly known ways, to reduce your carbon footprint.
#1 - Subscribing to an energy provider that provides renewable energy only
In today’s modern world our energy consumption is a large contributor to greenhouse gas emissions approximately 42%-45% of emissions in 2015 where from electricity and heat production (1) (2), by buying electricity from renewable energy providers you are helping to fight the climate crisis. As well as giving energy companies that use fossil fuels a clear sign that their sources of electricity are unwanted. This is definitely the most effect way of making sure your house is run on green renewable energy, therefore not contributing towards fuelling the climate change crisis.
#2 - Planting your own food

The issue with the majority of the food we consume is its high carbon footprint which is rather ironic as plants photosynthesis, thus removing CO2 from our atmosphere. The high carbon price tag that comes with food is due to animal feed which is roughly equivalent to 25% of emissions by the agricultural industry along with fertilizers and farming equipment which are two of the other big contributors. (3)
By having your own small allotment you can remove these large sources of emissions. Not only is it super satisfying that you are doing something to save the planet’s future but your own grown food tastes much better, because it comes served with the joy of having grown it yourself. Here is a sneak peek at my new blog, coming out tomorrow! . 10 Easy and Unusual Ways to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint and Help End Climate Change . #6 – Buying second hand clothes According to the EPA (US Environmental Protection Agency) the US throws away 13.1 million tons of textiles every year, similar figures can be seen in the UK and other western countries. So if the production of 1kg of textiles creates approximately 7kg of CO2. The US alone would emit 91.7 million tons of CO2 every year (that is if the volume of textiles bought equals the volume thrown out) that is about 36.6 million acres of forest needed to off put the CO2 emissions (5). We haven’t even thought about the usage of water in producing the textiles; the production of a t-shirt alone uses 2,650 litres of water which needs to be cleaned before it can be reused, which again takes more energy. By buying second hand clothes you are saving the planet and giving each piece of clothing a second chance and a reason for its hefty carbon price tag. Whilst at the same time reducing the amount of money spent on shopping for new clothes. . #blog #newblog #climatechange #globalwarming #noplanetb #climatestrike #dogood #love #hope #climatecrisis https://www.instagram.com/p/B0CIJeZFT_L/?igshid=hu9w9abgwize

I never thought I would be in a position where my future is uncertain. I had hoped to start this page on a happy note but in the current situation that is impossible. The greatest scientists of our day tell us we have only 10 years left to drastically change the situation we are in, or else a domino effect will start that we can’t stop. It is time to act! Well done to all those going on regular climate strikes! . #noplanetb #climatestrike #climatechange #globalwarming #lovetheplanet #ourplanet . It is our job as humans to save the planet 🌎 Not many of us can say that we are currently doing our best to prevent the disaster of climate change. Not even myself 😔 So let’s get together and make a difference. “No one is too small to make a difference” @gretathunberg . #climatechange #carbonemissions #globalwarming #carbonneutralworld #gretathunberg #fridaysforfuture #greenpeace #wwf https://www.instagram.com/p/BziMmeFFjL6/?igshid=16kikfe3ifq4e
