How many drinking (sorry, shopping) days are there to the pre-Christmas fixture Blackheath on December 21st? For the numerically challenged just put away your abacus and note that there will be a supporters bus going to the game to take the strain out of the festive celebrations. The cost will be £30 per head including food so make your booking early. Email [email protected] for more information.

Joe Kennedy, John F Kennedy’s father, sold his entire stock portfolio before the 1929 crash because “a shoeshine boy gave him some stock tips. And He figured that when the shoeshine boys have tips, the market is too popular for its own good.” 4 days to go until our 90th Birthday and you can ask the shoeshine boys from Loame for stock tips while you get a free shoe shine, although we advise seeking other advise as well.

Canterbury play their second pre-season friendly at the Marine Travel Ground on Saturday when they meet Esher, one of the clubs they have replaced in National Division One. The game kicks off at the earlier time of 1pm so that players and supporters can watch the England v Ireland international later in the afternoon. Newly relegated Esher, who have spent many seasons in National Division One, will provide a benchmark challenge for the city club. Under the direction of former England flanker Peter Winterbottom and Chris Wilkins, the former Kent and England Counties coach, they will be one of the favourites to make a swift return to the higher level.

In sport how you pick yourself up after a defeat is important. Last season a very worthy Dings Crusaders RFC snatched victory with the last kick of the match. As his long range penalty goal sailed between the posts the city side were left to reflect on a stuttering performance that did no justice to their lofty position in National 2 South. https://cantrugby.co.uk/matches/dings-crusaders-rfc-v-canterbury/

26. The number of miles in a marathon, the atomic number of iron and the number of points scored against Taunton last season at home which ended with "that kick". As one of the league’s most prolific goal kickers, Gary Kingdom, lined up a penalty shot which would have crowned Titans second half fight back Canterbury were staring at a last minute defeat for the second game running, but pressure gets to players even as experienced as the visitors full back and he pushed it wide. That miss, and an outstanding first half, took the city side back into the promotion play-of spot but they will rarely have to work as hard to come out on top. https://cantrugby.co.uk/matches/canterbury-v-taunton-titans-2/

The number 31. What could we possibly use that is associated with the number 31? BARNES 22 CANTERBURY 31 Canterbury booked a date with destiny as this hard earned victory secured their promotion play-off place and the chance to bring National Division One rugby to East Kent for the first time. All eyes now will be on Saturday, May 4th when Chester come to the Marine Travel Ground for the biggest game in the city club’s history. https://cantrugby.co.uk/matches/barnes-rfc-v-canterbury/

The number 32. The number of black squares on a chess board, the number of pages in the average comic book and the number of points scored in what turned out to be one of the most important wins of last season. In a gripping and high quality encounter the centre pairing of Tom Best and Sam Sterling propelled Canterbury to their fifth straight victory beating Henley Hawks 29-32. https://cantrugby.co.uk/matches/henley-v-canterbury-2/

33 is roughly the average the number of times Merton Lane shouts "Believe and achieve" during a match. His voice has had a rest but will be called up for duty in 33 days time.
