Macro Final Images

These are my 5 Final Macro Images. I stuck to my green theme and achieved to produce a series of images which I planned beforehand. 

I put my images in a collage and I also put them in the order which I preferred. I chose to put the first image on top as it is a manmade man-made object. The rest are all natural things. In addition, the first 3 images are shot in the Studio and the last 2 are shot on location.

I am quite pleased with my final images and the way I have organised them. It took a while to get some images but in the end I managed to capture them all!

Portfolio Printing Service

At first, I went to DeadlyDigital to print my 6 final images. However, they did not to C-type prints which is why I had to go with Loxley Colour. I was quite pleased with them and their quick delivery service.

As seen above, I chose Lustre as I personally like it and feel that the quality is much more sharp and clear. I also chose to add a colour profile to enhance my prints. I only ordered 5 prints as I had ordered 1 print previously to try out their service which is why the cost was less.

Still Life Plan 6/6

For my Still Life shoot I will be shooting M&Ms which I will layout in a specific way and perhaps do something creative with them. I will be shooting in one of the college studios which means equipment won’t be a hassle for me. I may use a Macro lens to get close into the details but I am not so sure how it will turn out yet. I want my final shot to come out as colourful because It will go well with my portfolio as I already have a product shot with a range of colours.

On Location Portrait Plan 5/6

I will be shooting a small family in Bathgate. My client, Agata, Approached me to take photos of her newborn and have a little family session. It is just over 35 minutes away from me and I will be driving to the location. They have also offered to cover my transport costs!

Portrait Studio Plan 4/6

I’ve decided to hold a portraiture shoot within one of the college studios as one of my 6 plans. I have asked 3 of my friends to come in and act as my models. I will come in earlier to set everything up and get all the equipment I need which is why I have asked them to come a bit later.

It is a 25 minute bus ride from the area Govanhill where my friends will take the bus from.

Photographer Research 3

These series of images are from the project titled “Raised by Wolves” published in 1995 which are taken by Jim Goldberg who is an American artist and photographer. Goldberg focuses on street kids who have lurched through their lives by abuse, violence and addiction. His work is exhibited throughout the world and is well known due to this project and book.

Goldberg took 6 years capturing people and getting to know them in the streets of San Francisco and Los Angeles and 10 years to publish his powerful work. He had each individual handwrite their personal issues or something about them which he printed next to their images. This is quite powerful work as it impacts people personally and emotionally due to the disturbing images and words.

Storytelling Shoot

This morning we made contact sheets and had an editing workshop for our storytelling/climate change images where we selected the best ones by highlighting and circling them. I then printed my images and stuck them up on the wall so that everyone can have a look and give feedback through post-it notes. From the feedback I was given, I reckon I need to go back to shoot some portraits and some more close up shots as I have a variety of wide angle shots in my series of images. My plan will remain the same as this one however I will try to get as many different and more images i can.

Photographer Research 2

The images below are taken by Daniel Beltrá. He was born in Spain in 1964. He is now based in the USA. He is best known for his which is titled “Spill”. It is exhibited throughout North America and Europe.

Beltrá likes to photograph topics that are related to the human impact on environmental issues such as global warming. As seen below, his images are shot in aerial style form which he enjoys capturing and changing views of people in a lot of aspects.

These series of images are from May 2010, when the water was polluted due to the oil spillage in BP Deepwater Horizon. From these images he showcased the destruction we are causing within beauty of this world.

Photographer Research 1

This Image is called “She Brings The Rain” which is the work of Richard Mosse from 2011. This image is part of a series called Infra. 

The reason why the series is called Infra is because everything was shot using colour infrared film which is known for it’s blazing highlights and enhanced depth and contrast. As shown, the film turns greens into pink and red. Through this series, Mosse wanted to showcase the beauty and tragedy in war and destruction from a different perspective.

This image is also taken by Richard Mosse in 2017. It is called “Detail Of Moira In The Now” which is a part of the series called Heat Maps.

This was taken from a thermographic camera which was specifically designed for war. The image shows the state that the refugees and migrants are in. By using such camera, each individual stands out by being highlighted in white. This would not have been possible if he used a standard camera. This image is very eye-catching due to this particular reason and that is what Mosse was trying to achieve here so he can show the reality of what goes on inside camps.

Looking for Light Editing Workshop

We all laid out our Looking for Light images on A4 contact sheets and used post-it notes to give opinions and advice to our classmates to help with our images and vice versa along with editing tips.

Real Estate Plan 3/6

I was asked to do a real estate shoot which I took to my benefit and decided to use it as one of my plans. I have also asked one of my close friend and classmate @zoemckay to help me out with this. We will be shooting a 2 bedroom Flat which is based in Finnieston, Glasgow.

It is an 11 minute drive from my house. However, I have to take a detour to pick my friend up in-between.

Storytelling Plan 2/6

I’ve chosen to do a story which covers the Glasgow Locavore Supermarket. Locavore is a social enterprise which aims to expand a great local food system which I will try my best to show through my final images.

As seen below, It is a 2 minute drive from where I live which is why there is no hassle for me to get there.

Macro Research/Plan 1/6

I have decided to shoot a green coloured theme for my final series of images for macro. I’ve thought of a good mixture of natural and man-made things so that my series of images are quite diverse. 

I’ve researched some images that I would like to emulate and try to work with below. 

Date: I will shoot my images over the course of 2-3 weeks in the College studio and on Location.

I took inspiration from this image and want to try and emulate something similar. I will either use a snoot or a soft box along with a black background. I will also add water droplets to the apple to so that it looks interesting as this image.

This Image caught my eye and I would like to recreate this image but with a few changes. Firstly, I want to use green pencils only and maybe not as many as in this image. Secondly, I will use a white background and set them up the same way they are in the image below. Finally, I felt that the lighting here was a bit too harsh so maybe I will use a softer light source for my image.

I will be shooting a leaf and capturing its details quite close, much like the image I’ve chosen and of course it will be green unlike the one in the image. I’m not sure of what lighting source I will use or if I will use natural or artificial light yet.

This will be quite hard to achieve but I would like to give it a go. I will have to get in much closer and I’m not sure if enough light would be let through for me to take a shot of the grass as it will be quite close up. I will also make use of a tripod as it will be shot outside and my images could get shaky.

Finally, I will shoot a green plant. It comes under the same category as the leaf but it will be shot differently and I will not give as much detail as the leaf.

Tiny Worlds (Miniature)

I used a macro lens to make small objects appear bigger. It was quite interesting as I have never done anything like this before and the results were great. It was also very hard to shoot handheld as the images were turning out to be shaky due to being so close up which is why I used a tripod.

Reading Photographs - Exhibition Visit

This image was taken on a digital camera as seen by the quality and colours. The image is in colour and square format which consists of a battery powered car which is being charged whilst parked on the side of the road in Glasgow. The image is also quite cropped in from the left side as only a small amount of the car can be seen from the back. The viewpoint is equal to the subjects as the photographer is trying to show the image through the public’s point of view and show the normality of battery powered cars in the future. There was no artificial light used as the image was taken in broad daylight. This work is presented in the Hillhead library where it is hung on the wall along with many others. The atmosphere of the image seems to be quite dull, almost as if pollution has taken over the world. This image is quite powerful as this is what the future will be like due petrol and diesel cars causing a lot of harm to our earth if we do not take any action now, which is why this image is important to be shown to the world and it’s people.I quite liked this work of Jeremy Sutton-Hibbert as it made me question a lot about climate change and I feel that this work should be seen by many others to help them understand this issue better.
